ASSOCIATE PROF. DR. NORAZILAWATI BINTI MUHAMAD SARIH

Norazilawati Muhamad Sarih obtained her BSc (Hons.) degree in Polymer Technology from the University of MARA Technology, Malaysia. After graduating in 2001, she worked temporarily at Pearson (M) Sdn Bhd as an Assistant Editor. Subsequently, she was offered a permanent position at Heveafil (M) Sdn Bhd as an R&D Executive in the same year. In 2004, she joined the Department of Chemistry, Faculty of Science, Universiti Malaya as a temporary Tutor. In 2010, she earned her PhD degree in Polymer Chemistry from the University of Durham, United Kingdom. Later that year, she was appointed as a Senior Lecturer at the Department of Chemistry, Faculty of Science, Universiti Malaya. Throughout her career, she has taught various courses in several programs, including BSc in Chemistry, BSc in Applied Chemistry, MSc (coursework), and a Research Methodology course for PhD students. She has supervised ten postgraduates and is currently supervising three postgraduates pursuing PhD and MSc degrees. Additionally, she has mentored over 30 final-year project students. Apart from her administrative responsibilities at the departmental and faculty level, she has been serving as the Vice-President of the Malaysia Carbon Management Society since 2019.

PROF. DR. NURUL SHAHNAZ BINTI AHMAD MAHDZAN

Dr. Nurul Shahnaz Ahmad Mahdzan is a Professor and served as the Head at the Department of Finance, Faculty of Business & Economics, University of Malaya from 2019-2023. She obtained her PhD from the Nottingham University Business School, UK; MBA (with Distinction) from the University of Malaya; and BBA (Finance) (Summa Cum Laude) from Ohio University, USA. Her research passion is in the area of Consumer Finances, particularly on the issues of financial behaviour and economic psychology of households - this includes their financial literacy, financial well-being, fintech adoption, financial attitudes, saving behaviour, investment risk-taking behaviour, and gullibility to financial fraud victimisation. She also has an interest in studies related to the financial services industry, particularly in insurance and risk management. Her current research project involves FinTech usage among millenials and the Gen X's and how this impacts financial well-being. Recently, she was invited as a Plenary Speaker at the National Financial Literacy Symposium (NFLS 2023) to share her views on the state of financial literacy and financial well-being among Malaysians. She has also appeared in numerous national TV, radio and print media where her views on personal finance and economic issues have been sought. She has been appointed as a panel of assessor for the Malaysian Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE) research grants since year 2020 to date. Additionally, she has been invited to speak on several local industrial platforms on the topic of Consumer Finances. She has been invited as guest speaker at international symposiums and platforms that discuss financial and economic issues pertaining to the Malaysian context. Her deep interest and engagement in the area of Consumer Finances stems from her ten-year experience working in financial services, where she mainly dealt with consumers and their personal finances. It was then that her passion the area began and continues till today, as reflected in her research, publications and other activities.

DR. ABDUL MUNEEM

Dr. Abdul Muneem is currently serving as a Lecturer at the Department of Fiqh and Usul, Academy of Islamic Studies, Universiti Malaya (UM). He holds both a PhD and a Master’s degree from the same department, reflecting his strong academic foundation in Islamic jurisprudence. He completed his undergraduate studies at the International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM) in 2015. Following his graduation, Dr. Abdul Muneem joined the International Shariʿah Research Academy for Islamic Finance (ISRA)—now known as ISRA Institute—as a Sharīʿah Management Trainee in 2015. This role allowed him to delve deeply into research and industry practices within the field of Islamic finance. He also gained hands-on experience through an internship at the Sharīʿah Research and Advisory Department of AmBank Islamic Berhad in 2017. Dr. Abdul Muneem has made meaningful contributions to the development of Islamic finance through his research and academic publications. His areas of expertise include Islamic banking, Islamic finance, takaful, and broader Sharīʿah-related legal issues. His current research focuses on emerging topics such as Islamic financial technologies (fintech), Islamic crowdfunding, digital assets, zakat, and other contemporary issues in Islamic finance. He has authored and co-authored numerous articles in prestigious academic journals indexed by Scopus, Web of Science (WoS), as well as reputable local journals such as MyCite.
