Dr. Saturveithan Chandirasegaran is a Consultant Orthopaedic Spine Surgeon at Universiti Malaya with a strong academic and research portfolio in spine surgery. He completed MBBS (UM) in 2011, followed by Master of Orthopaedic Surgery (UM) in 2020, where he graduated as the Top Student of Universiti Malaya. He subsequently undertook Subspeciality Training in Orthopaedic Spine Surgery at University Malaya Medical Centre (UMMC) and Fellowship in Spine Surgery at National University Hospital (Singapore), gaining expertise in spinal deformity, complex spine disorders and advanced surgical techniques. He is an active contributor to the regional spine community and a committed member of several professional bodies, including AO Spine, Asia Pacific Spine Society (APSS) as a Life Member, Malaysian Spine Society (MSS), and the Malaysian Orthopaedic Association (MOA). He has received multiple international awards in recognition of his clinical research in spine surgery. His recent accolades include the English Presentation Award Gold Prize 2025 from the Japanese Society for Spine Surgery and Related Research, as well as the Presidential Best Research Award at the International Malaysian Spine Society Scientific Congress for 2 consecutive years, 2023 and 2024. He has been regularly invited as a speaker at major scientific meetings, including the AO Spine Asia Pacific International Spine Conference. As an academician, Dr. Saturveithan has authored over 23 publications in leading ISI-indexed spine journals and continues to be actively involved in clinical and translational spine research.
show more »Dr. Saz obtained his BEng in Civil Engineering at Universiti Malaya in which he specialized in finite element analysis. He has provided renewable energy consultation as part of community engagement to obtain his MSc in Environmental Management at the University of Hertfordshire, UK. During his PhD at Universiti Malaya, he further specialized in building information modelling (BIM) and life cycle assessment (LCA). His research interests include industry-wide implementation of BIM, LCA of sustainable construction materials, and nanomaterials in cementitious materials. He is a Practitioner Member of the Institute of Environmental Management and Assessment (IEMA) UK, a Professional Technologist registered with the Malaysian Board of Technologists (MBOT) and a Professional Member of the Institute of Geospatial and Remote Sensing Malaysia (IGRSM).
show more »Dr. Gareth Sim Maw Shin is a talented and dedicated senior lecturer at the University of Malaya, Malaysia. He is currently working in the Department of Pharmaceutical Life Sciences, within the esteemed Faculty of Pharmacy. With a PhD in Medical Science from the University of Malaya, Dr. Gareth joined the faculty as a senior lecturer in 2017. Prior to his PhD, he spent three years as a SLAI fellow under the Academic Training Scheme from the Ministry of Education Malaysia. Dr. Gareth's expertise in teaching is reflected in his role as coordinator of four Pharmacy and Biomedical modules. He is also highly regarded in the research community, with a focus on Behavioural Science, Genetic Epidemiology, and Psycho- and Neuro-pharmacogenomics in drug abuse and dependence. He is currently leading a cutting-edge project on 'Psychopharmacogenomics of Amphetamine-type Stimulants (ATS) Abuse and Dependence in the Malaysian Population'. With a strong collaboration network that includes esteemed institutions such as Monash University, Mahsa University, and more, Dr. Gareth has published several high-impact articles in prestigious journals such as Brain Research, Biochimica et Biophysica Acta (BBA) - General Subjects, and the Pharmacogenomics journal. His contributions to the field have made a significant impact and demonstrate his commitment to advancing the field of pharmacogenomics.
