DR. MOHAMMAD FIRDAUS BIN ABDUL AZIZ

Firdaus Aziz is a Senior Lecturer and the Deputy Dean of Research and Innovation at the Faculty of Law, Universiti Malaya. His work centres on medical law, biosafety law, and the legal–ethical dimensions of emerging technologies, including stem cell science, biobanking, gene editing, and precision medicine. He holds a BSc (Hons) in Genetics and Molecular Biology from Universiti Malaya and received the National Science Fellowship to pursue an MA in Biotechnological Law and Ethics at the University of Sheffield. He later completed a DPhil in Public Health at St Edmund Hall, University of Oxford, specialising in stem cell law and ethics at the Centre for Health, Law and Emerging Technologies (HeLEX). Since 2016, he has contributed to strengthening bioethics capacity in Southeast Asia. As a UNESCO Bioethics Trainer, he has delivered training to academicians teaching bioethics in universities across Indonesia, the Philippines, Fiji, and other parts of the region. He is also a co-investigator for the Wellcome Trust–funded Southeast Asian Bioethics Network and for the NIH Fogarty programme developing Malaysia’s Master’s in Health Research Ethics. Firdaus plays an active role in national and regional governance, serving on Malaysia’s Technical Advisory Committee on Dual-Use Research, the National Sub-Committee for Laboratory Biosafety and Biosecurity, and the National Committee on Ethics of Cell Research and Therapy. He provides expert input to government agencies, including the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation, contributing to national policy development such as the Guidelines on Stem Cell and Cell-based Research and Therapy (2024) and Malaysia’s first national biotechnology ethics guidelines (2025). He is also involved in national efforts to reform the criminal justice system, with research and supervisory work that engages issues at the intersection of law, public health, and justice sector governance.

DR. GOPINATH VENKATRAMAN

Dr Gopinath Venkatraman is a Biotechnologist and Senior Lecturer at the Institute of Biological Sciences, Faculty of Science and is associated with Universiti Malaya Centre for Proteomics Research (UMCPR). He is also an adjunct professor of Biochemistry at Saveetha Institute of Science and Technology, India and Molecular Medicine at Sathyabama Institute of Science & Technology, India. His research focuses on biomedical (tissue engineering, antimicrobial, anticancer drug delivery applications) and environmental applications of metal, polymeric nanomaterials, and natural compounds.

PROF. DR. SALINAH BINTI JA'AFAR

Salinah Jaafar ialah Profesor di Akademi Pengajian Melayu, Universiti Malaya, dengan kepakaran dalam Leksikologi, Linguistik Melayu, Kesantunan Berbahasa, dan Terjemahan. Beliau memperoleh Ph.D. (2008) dalam bidang Leksikologi dan pernah mengikuti penyelidikan di University of Birmingham, UK. Mantan Pengarah Akademi Pengajian Melayu (2020–2022) ini aktif menulis dalam jurnal berindeks Scopus dan ISI, serta menerbitkan buku ilmiah bersama penerbit MAPIM. Dengan pengalaman hampir tiga dekad dalam pendidikan tinggi, beliau dikenali sebagai pensyarah yang berdedikasi, tekun, dan komited terhadap kecemerlangan ilmu. Selain mengajar, beliau giat dalam penyelidikan FRGS yang merangkumi bidang Pragmatik, Hubungan Etnik, Korpus Melayu, Linguistik Komputer, dan Terjemahan Hadis. Pengalaman luasnya sebagai pentadbir universiti turut memantapkan peranan beliau dalam kepimpinan akademik, pembangunan kurikulum, serta pementoran staf. Salinah Jaafar is a Professor at the Academy of Malay Studies, University of Malaya, specializing in Lexicology, Malay Linguistics, Language Politeness, and Translation Studies. She earned her Ph.D. (2008) in Lexicology and completed a six-month research attachment at the Centre for Academic Research in English (CARE), University of Birmingham, UK.  A former Director of the Academy of Malay Studies (2020–2022), she is an active scholar whose works have been published in Scopus- and ISI-indexed journals as well as in scholarly books by MAPIM Press. With nearly three decades of experience in higher education, she is known for her dedication, diligence, and strong commitment to academic excellence.  Beyond teaching, she is actively involved in FRGS-funded research focusing on Pragmatics, Ethnic Relations, Malay Corpus Development, Computational Linguistics, and Hadith Translation. Her extensive administrative experience at the University of Malaya has also strengthened her role in academic leadership, curriculum development, and staff mentorship.
