DR. MD SHAHABUDDIN AHMMAD

I have been working as a senior lecturer in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Malaya, Malaysia. I am pioneering research in energy, environment, supply chain modelling, and metallurgy, with a focus on optimisation, techno-economic analysis, and lifecycle assessment. I also teach key courses in mechanical engineering, such as fluid mechanics, heat & mass transfer, and thermodynamics, while developing research grants and establishing collaborative partnerships.Previously, I worked as a Research Fellow at the National University of Singapore (NUS) and conducted research in the area of low-carbon technologies, particularly on hydrogen energy vectors. Before joining NUS, I completed my role as a Research Fellow at HILT-CRC and Victorian Hydrogen Hub (VH2) projects at Swinburne University of Technology, Australia. Before joining Swinburne, I worked for the Hydrogen Energy Supply Chain (HESC) project at Federation University, Australia, and the Waste to Energy and Resource Recovery project at the UNSW, Sydney. I received my PhD in Chemical Engineering from Monash University with the prestigious Postgraduate Publication Award (PPA). I obtained my MPhil and bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Adelaide and DUET Bangladesh.I have been consistently listed among the world's top 2.0% of scientists in the subfield of energy, published by Elsevier and Stanford University since 2021. I am a certified chemical, mechanical, and material engineer from the world's top professional bodies with extensive research experience in process modelling (Aspen Plus, HYSYS, and HSC Chemistry), hydrogen energy, gasification, solar energy, green iron and steel, biofuel, CFD, technoeconomics, and LCA. I have published over 60 research articles, receiving over 4700 citations with an h-index of 28 (Google Scholar). Throughout my career, I have supervised dozens of research students at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels. PROF. DR. CHONG MEI CHAN

  Professor Chong Mei Chan, PhD, is an accomplished nursing academic and leader with over 20 years of expertise in gerontology, maternal-child health, and e-learning innovations. Currently a Professor at the University of Malaya (UM), she holds a BSc in Nursing (UM, 1995), MSc in Community Health (UPM, 2005), and PhD in Nursing (Monash University, 2014). Her research addresses critical public health issues, including Time banking for community-dwelling older adults, Chronic disease management, and nursing education adaptations during the COVID-19 pandemic. Beyond academia, she actively engages in community health promotion and has established international collaborations with institutions in Australia, China, Taiwan, Jordan, Iran, UAE, UK, Japan, Hong Kong, and Indonesia. As Head of UM’s Nursing Department (2018–2023), Prof. Chong led transformative initiatives that elevated the program into the QS World Rankings (150–200) and achieved top departmental status in research publications for two consecutive years. Her leadership extends to national policy, having served on the Malaysian Nursing Board, Nursing Council for Higher Education, and the Health White Paper Advisory Council (2022–2023). She also co-authored Malaysia’s strategic roadmap for health workforce development as a member of the Ministry of Health’s Strategic Engagement Group on Health Workforce and Governance. An internationally recognized scholar, Prof. Chong has published 100+ papers (70+ in WoS/ISI journals), authored 6 textbooks, and supervised 66+ postgraduate candidates (40 PhDs graduated). With 2,130+ citations (h-index: 25, Google Scholar), she is a frequent keynote speaker and external examiner for nursing programs across the Asia-Pacific. Her dedication to advancing nursing education is further demonstrated through her mentorship of early-career researchers and ongoing roles in interprofessional healthcare initiatives.

ASSOCIATE PROF. DR. TAN BOON CHIN

Dr Tan Boon Chin is an Associate Professor and Director of the Centre for Research in Biotechnology for Agriculture (CEBAR) at the University of Malaya (UM). He obtained his BSc in Biotechnology from Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) and his PhD in Plant Biotechnology from the University of Nottingham. He joined UM as a postdoctoral research fellow before progressing to the position of Senior Lecturer. Dr Tan’s research spans plant molecular biology and biochemistry, focusing on understanding how transcription factors regulate responses to environmental stress in crops to improve tolerance under future climates. Key research goals include: (1) developing biostimulants to mitigate climate stress, (2) designing educational programmes for sustainable agriculture, and (3) providing evidence-based recommendations to policymakers. He also works on genetically manipulating plant biosynthetic pathways to produce beneficial bioactive compounds and exploring plants as alternative platforms for high-value recombinant proteins. Dr Tan served as the Lead Consultant for the National Biosafety Policy and Action Plan project. He is an Associate Editor of the Journal of Plant Growth Regulation (JPGR), Annals of Botany (AoB), and Tropical Plant Biology and serves on the Editorial Boards of BMC Plant Biology, Heliyon, Molecular Biotechnology (MOBI), Asia Pacific Journal of Molecular Biology and Biotechnology (APJMBB), Discover Food, Discover Plants, and the Journal of Agribusiness Marketing (JAMA). Dr Tan is also the President of the Malaysian Society for Molecular Biology and Biotechnology (MSMBB), an Honorary Secretary General of the Asia Oceania Agricultural Proteomics Organization (AOAPO), a council member of the Malaysian Proteomics Society (MAPS), Malaysian Society of Plant Physiology (MSPP), and Malaysian Society of Systems and Synthetic Biology (MyBioSS), and an eLife Community Ambassador.  He received several awards, including the Royal Society-Newton Advanced Fellowship (2017), the Travel Award for the Asia Pacific Biosafety Association Conference from the United States Department of State Biosecurity Engagement Program (2017), and the Alltech Young Scientist Award 2012/13, and recognition as one of The Asian Scientist 100 for outstanding contributions to science in Asia (https://www.asianscientist.com/as100/).
