Dr. Jeevan began his academic journey by earning a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) in 1999. He then advanced to Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM), where he completed an MSc in Mechanical Engineering in 2003 and a PhD in Heat Transfer in Electronic System in 2007. In 2014, he obtained a Professional Certificate in Electronic Engineering from the Board of Engineers Malaysia (BEM), further cementing his status as a registered professional engineer. Dr. Jeevan holds a chartered engineer registration via IET (UK) since 2012 . Within the Faculty of Engineering, he leads interdisciplinary research efforts in optimization, artificial intelligence, and control systems, with applications in healthcare, IR4, and electronic circuits. He heads the Expert System & Optimization Lab (ESOL), which focuses on integrating AI and swarm intelligence with control strategies to address societal challenges like cancer treatment optimization and Industrial Revolution 4. ESOL collaborates with dental faculties at UM and international institutions across the UK, Germany, and China. Dr. Jeevan’s research portfolio is both broad and impactful: he has authored over 100 peer‑reviewed journal articles, garnered more than 1,300 citations, and currently having an H‑index of 20(2025). Noteworthy recent publications include studies on cancer chemotherapy controlled via optimal control and swarm intelligence; exploration of distortion estimation using image gradients; investigations into vehicle type classification using semi‑supervised PCA and convolutional networks; and research with Malaysian Industry related to Industry Revolution 4.0. In 2024 alone, he co-authored works on dual‑therapy cancer control and metaheuristic optimization for treatment planning, demonstrating his ongoing leadership in high‑impact interdisciplinary research. Beyond research, Dr. Jeevan is active in grant panel review, academic examination, and journal referee service. He has served as a panel assessor for UM internal grant schemes (2019–21) and reviewed proposals for Universiti Pertahanan Malaysia, Taylor’s University, and the international journal Applied Soft Computing and IEEE access. In recognition of his dedication to service, he received the Certificate of Excellent Service from Universiti Malaya in 2014 . In the classroom, he teaches the Optimization Methods (KIE4024) and Numerical Analysis(KIE3005) for undergraduates and lectures on Machine Learning(KQC7015), Industrial Automation and Robotics(KQC7031) and Embedded System(KQC7029) for Masters of Coursework, equipping engineering students with AI‑based approaches to address complex, real‑world engineering problems through optimal control and swarm intelligence.
show more »Claire currently teaches epidemiology, research methodology and biostatistics to both undergraduates and postgraduate students at the Department of Social and Preventive Medicine, Faculty of Medicine, University of Malaya. Claire has focused considerable energy on violence, older persons' health, adolescent health, and reproductive and sexual health research. Her research interests include the international public health burden of violence especially on older people, women and children; investigating the linkages between violence and mental health; the development and evaluation of interventions to address violence; research on victimization via ICT and exposure to social media such as cyberbullying, sexual and physical victimization; and the application of mixed methodology in public health research. She is part of the University of Malaya Grand Challenge Programme; Preventing Elder Abuse and Neglect Initiative (PEACE). Her projects include determining the magnitude and social determinants of elder abuse (EAN) among community and institutionalized older adults; examine effects of educational intervention on management of EAN among healthcare providers; review effectiveness of interventions on EAN; the effects of adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) on health and well-being of older persons, and examine the effectiveness of social isolation and loneliness interventions on health outcomes. Since 2021, Claire is a core team member of the WHO Abuse of Older People Intervention Accelerator Initiative, an international research-practice network that aims to speed up development and evaluation of effective interventions. Claire was previously appointed as a consultant and researcher by the National Population and Family Development Board, World Health Organization and UNICEF. She is also a member for the International Network for the Prevention for Elder abuse and International Society for the Prevention of Child Abuse and Neglect. Claire assessed grants for the UK National Institute for Health Research Global Health Programme, Fundamental Research Grant Scheme and the Postgraduate Research Fund. Claire is an associate editor for Asia Pacific Journal of Public Health. She has published over a hundred ISI papers including in Nature Aging, Campbell Systematic Reviews, Cochrane Systematic Reviews, Journal of Adolescent Health, Child Abuse and Neglect, Child Abuse Review, Journal of Interpersonal Violence, Trauma, Abuse and Violence Journal, Journal of Elder Abuse and Neglect among others. She also co-authoured several books and book chapters including Statistical Analysis Using SPSS 3rd Edition, Age-ing Peacefully and Guide for Caring of Older Adults. Claire has also previously an invited speaker and conducted several workshops/courses such as Research Methodology, Data analysis using SPSS, Train the trainers for CE-EBM, and Evidence Based Medicine.
show more »Dr. Elaine Yen Nee Oon is a Senior Lecturer at the Department of Accounting, Faculty of Business and Economics, Universiti Malaya. She holds a PhD and an MPhil in Management Studies from the University of Cambridge and earned her Bachelor of Commerce with First Class Honours from La Trobe University, Australia. A former World Bank scholar, her career began in the financial services industry before joining academia. She is a Chartered Accountant with the Malaysian Institute of Accountants (MIA) and CPA Australia, alongside holding dual certifications as a Certified (FPAM) and Registered Financial Planner (MFPC). Dr. Oon is the Programme Coordinator for the Master of Accounting at Universiti Malaya and serves as the Deputy Chief Editor for the Faculty’s Scopus-indexed Asian Journal of Business & Accounting. Her international standing is evidenced by her appointment as an Honorary Research Associate at the Cambridge Judge Business School, University of Cambridge, and her previously held postdoctoral fellowship at the London Business School. Leveraging on her academic training and learning experiences at these prestigious universities, she is deeply committed to academic mentorship, having successfully supervised four PhD candidates to completion with several more ongoing and over 20 Master’s students across various accounting and management disciplines. Additionally, her involvement in the development of the Universiti Malaya Strategic Plan 2026-2030 reflects her engagement in shaping institutional direction and policy. Dr. Oon’s robust research portfolio explores the dynamic intersection of corporate governance, strategic management accounting, and digital transformation. Her work addresses critical contemporary issues related to governance mechanisms, performance management, and the strategic role of accounting in supporting organizational decision-making, focusing on board effectiveness and diversity, family businesses, managerial cognition, ESG, and artificial intelligence. She has published extensively in top-tier, high-impact journals, such as Asian Review of Accounting, Corporate Governance, Management Decision, Finance Research Letters, and Managerial and Decision Economics. As a principal investigator, Dr. Oon has secured competitive national and university-level funding, including a government agency grant (Agensi Antidadah Kebangsaan) investigating the socio-economic perspectives of the black market of illicit drugs in Malaysia, demonstrating her ability to lead multidisciplinary projects. Dr. Oon’s impactful thought leadership is consistently recognized on both national and global stages. Her research on female board representation across 42 countries, conducted in collaboration with the 30% Club UK and funded by BNY Mellon, has gained international recognition through global media press, white papers at Cambridge Judge Business School, and conference proceedings at the Academy of Management. She has received numerous accolades for her work, including the Emerald-International Management Accounting Conference (IMAC) 2024 Most Provocative Research Award (Award of Excellence), Best Paper Award at IMAC 2021, back-to-back Best Reviewer Awards from the International Management Division of the prestigious Academy of Management in 2020 and 2021, and a Certificate of Excellent Service from Universiti Malaya in 2022.
