Norjihan is currently a Senior Lecturer in Department of Information System, FCSIT, Universiti Malaya. She started working at UM as a lecturer since November 2002 and become a senior lecturer in 2015. Her PhD in Computer Science from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (2013), and her Master in Information Technology (2000) from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia and she obtained her Bachelor Degree in Information Technolgy from Universiti Utara Malaysia (2000). Currently, she is the Head of Department for Information Systems since 7 October 2019. Her research interest is in the areas of information security which she focuses more on information privacy, data security, data protection. Norjihan managed to secure various research grants from internal and external funds as Principal Investigator, and also a co-researcher for grants. She was actively involved in the curriculum development which was appointed as Programme Coordinator for Master of Information Technology Management and involved in many programme development at the faculty level. Apart from this, she also involved being a panel interviewer for Hadiah Latihan Persekutuan and Biasiswa Yang di Pertuan Agong.
show more »I have been involved in teaching for more than 32 years. I started my career as a temporary teacher before pursuing my undergraduate and postgraduate studies at the University of Malaya, where I obtained my Bachelor in Indian Studies and History and Master in Linguistics. I did my PhD in Linguistics at Newcastle University in Newcastle upon Tyne, United Kingdom. I have decent knowledge in Tamil grammar, where I teach the subject at my institution, and have authored a few books, individually and jointly, on that subject. I have written and published more than 50 articles so far and have attended more than 75 conferences and seminars, locally and abroad. Field Interest: I am interested and actively involved in research involving fields of study such as linguistics, historical linguistics, language borrowing, translation, Tamil education, and classical literature of Tamil. Completed Research: Phonology, Linguistics, Grammar, Loanword Phonology, Lexical Morphology, Translation and Cognates, and Tamil Education. Supervisions of Postgraduates and Undergraduates: I have more than a dozen postgraduate students who have completed their studies under my supervision in various fields, especially those related to linguistics, grammar, Tamil education, and philosophy. Language skills: I have good speaking and writing command in Tamil, Malay, and English. I could read and write Hindi and Sanskrit moderately. PROFESSIONAL: I have been actively involving various organisations at various levels, holding various roles. To name a few, I am one of the board-list members of the Malaysian Examination Council. Besides working closely with the council in examination-related matters, I am also a panellist in the curriculum review committee of the council for the Tamil subject (Till todate). I am a member of the faculty and served as Head of Department of Indian Studies, University of Malaya, from June 2014 till September 1, 2018. I am also a member of the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences at the University of Malaya. Recently, I was appointed as an External Examiner of Tamil subjects thought at Teacher Training Institutes in Malaysia for a period of two years (2018-2022). I am serving as the current Secretary of the International Association of Tamil Research, Malaysia (1997). I also served as the General Secretary II for the 9th International Tamil Conference and Seminar on Tamil Studies (9ICSTS) held at the University of Malaya, Kuala Lumpur, from 29 January 2015 till February 2, 2024. I am also involved in social engagement activities at various levels. Currently, I am serving as Chairman of the Parents and Teachers Association of a Tamil School in Kuala Lumpur (SRJK (T) Jalan Cheras, (2016-2019).
show more »Dr Moy is a Professor of Epidemiology and Public Health, attached with the Department of Social & Preventive Medicine, Faculty of Medicine, University of Malaya, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. She teaches Epidemiology, Nutritional Epidemiology, Research Methodology and Evidence-Based Medicine to both undergraduate and postgraduate candidates. Her research interests include Translational Research in the prevention of non-communicable diseases (NCDs) in the community setting, Workplace Wellness and the effects of obesity and lifestyle behaviours (diet, physical activity etc ) on NCDs. Dr Moy is an established researcher and she has been included in the prestigious World’s Top 2 % Scientists in the Stanford University’s list for the last five conservative years (2019 to 2023). Her expertise in obesity research is ranked top 2.8% among the published authors worldwide on Obesity from 2010 through 2023 (ExpertScape). Dr Moy has vast experience in running cohort study. Currently, she heads a cohort study comprising of almost 15,000 teachers from the Peninsular Malaysia (CLUSTer). A biobank with serum, plasma and buffy coat was set up. The study aims to determine the temporal relationship between lifestyle practices (diet and physical activity) and stress with cardiovascular diseases with repeated measurements over time. This cohort study started in 2013 and up to date, a total 14 PhD/DrPH and one MMedSc (Research) candidates worked on this cohort study and ten of them have graduated. Eighteen ISI articles are published from this cohort. Dr Moy is also actively involved in another study that works on the development of a mobile diet app using image capture as the dietary assessment method. This project is in collaboration with co-researchers in the field of Artificial Intelligence and Behavioural Science. The goal is to have users monitor their diet and for researchers in the nutrition field to have a better tool in dietary assessment. This mobile diet app has registered for patent and copyrights. Efforts to further refine it for commercialisation is ongoing. Dr Moy has generated research grants amounting to more than RM2.5 million. She published more than 100 manuscripts in peer review journals. She is also active in supervising research candidates. To date, she has successfully supervised to completion more than 50 DrPH, PhD, MMedSc (Research) and MPH candidates. Dr Moy initiated and established the University of Malaya Wellness Program in 2008 and coordinated the program until 2013. She also co-ordinated the implementation of Clinical Epidemiology-Evidence Based Medicine module in the MBBS curriculum in 2008. She was the coordinator for the Master of Public Health (MPH) program from 2018 to 2022. Currently, she is the Head of the Centre of Epidemiology and Evidence Based Practice (CEBP), one of the top ten research centres in Universiti Malaya. She is a certified Cochrane Trainer and actively conducts workshops on Cochrane Systematic Review Protocol Development. She serves as associate editors for international and local journals. She also reviews manuscripts for both local and international journals. She actively engages with the media in health advocacy especially in the prevention of obesity and NCDs, promotion of healthy lifestyle and lately in the preventive measures of COVID-19 as well as promotion of vaccination for COVID-19. In summary, Dr Moy has a rich portfolio in teaching, research, mentorship and health advocacy.
