PROF. DR. NORMA BINTI CHE YUSOFF

Norma-Rashid is an avid researcher on faunistic living treasures with an extensive field experience. Her job involves four domains teaching, research, administration and providing scientific services to a wider community. The central theme of her research interest is behavioural ecology in the laboratory or various ecosytems (mangrove, marine, riverine, agricultural and forest) in wide ranging animals (insects, spiders & scorpions, selected vertebrates including humans). Currently, she has developed a passion for various aspects (biomonitoring, biocoenosis, ecomorphometrics, taxonomy, behaviour and ecology of dragonflies & spiders. She has described a myriad of species found to be new local records or new to science promoting Malaysian megabiodiversity. Being the only trained local odonatist led her to many connections and recognitions of international repute. Some of her collaborations include Natural History Museum, Leiden, Sussex University, Harvard University, Universiti Brunei Darussalam and National Univesity of Singapore. Her teaching techniques exploited her behaviour expertise relating animal behavioural repertoire as tool usage in capturing student interests which led onto enthusiastic learning. Relating her field activities; I always feel fortunate being part of an expedition as it is a voyage of discovery...

Dr Sheena Kaur graduated with a doctoral degree in Applied Linguistics from Lancaster University, U.K. An alumnus of Universiti Malaya (U.M.), Malaysia's leading university, she graduated with a Bachelor of Arts (English Literature), Diploma in Education (TESL) and Master of English as a Second Language (M.ESL).  She is an Associate Professor at the Department of English Language, Faculty of Languages and Linguistics, U.M. She was formerly Head of Strategic Global Alliances Division at the International Relations Centre (IRC), Universiti Malaya from 15 March 2023 to 15 March 2024. She has also held several other administrative positions in her career at the university, most recently as the Deputy Dean of Postgraduate Studies (1 Sept 2020 - 1st Sept 2022) at the Faculty of Languages and Linguistics, U.M., the Deputy Director of the International Relations Office, U.M. (1st August 2017-31st July 2019), the Head of the Language Unit (17 th Nov 2014-31st July 2016), Faculty of Languages and Linguistics, where she was involved in curriculum planning and design of various English courses for local and international undergraduates. From 2010-2012, she was the Head of the Multimedia Planning Unit at the faculty and was a member of the university's e-learning committee. She is also currently involved in several task force committees under the university's Transformation Plan. Sheena has taught several courses at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. Her research interests include applied linguistics, sociolinguistics, corpus linguistics, and digital humanities. She is a reviewer for several journals including Psychological Trauma: Theory, Research, Practice and Policy; Pertanika (UPM); Journal of Modern Languages (UM), Gema Online Journal of Language Studies (UKM) and SEARCH (Taylor's College).  She is actively involved in community work, and was the coordinator for the faculty's Community Engagement course during its inception, as well as being a member of the university's advisory board for the course. She led the faculty's first community project for the Community Engagement course with the Semai community at Pos Pantos, Kuala Lipis, Pahang, involving first year undergraduates.  Sheena has recently been awarded the US-ASEAN Fulbright Award for 2024/2025 where she is hosted by Prof Vasti Torres, at Indiana University Bloomington, Indiana, USA. DR. NURADILLA BINTI MOHAMAD FAUZI

Dr. Nuradilla Mohamad Fauzi is a senior lecturer at the Institute of Biological Sciences, Faculty of Science, Universiti Malaya (UM). She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Biotechnology and a Ph.D. degree in Genetics, both from University of California, Davis, USA. She seeks to understand how organisms respond to stress and adapt to the environment by using techniques in molecular biology and biotechnology, towards the goal of conservation of ecosystems and agricultural sustainability. Her ongoing projects are clustered in two main areas: 1) stress and reproduction in small ruminant livestock (agriculture), and 2) coral reef restoration and ecology of marine organisms. Working together with other livestock biotechnology researchers in UM, she is investigating the effects of temperature-humidity stress in the tropics on the physiology and reproduction of sheep, as well as the population genetics of Barbados Blackbelly sheep in Peninsular Malaysia. Within the marine context, she investigated the relationship between light availability, photosynthetic performance and photosymbiont association in sea anemones off the coast of Johor, Malaysia. She is one of the principal investigators in Project PULIH (Protecting Underwater Life through Integrated reHabilitation), in which she is examining the relationship between molecular age and regeneration of hard corals for improving coral restoration success rates, and exploring the diversity of crustose coralline algae, an important foundational organism in coral reefs, in Malaysia through molecular tools.
