DR. FARAHIN BINTI MOHD JAIS

Dr. Farahin Mohd Jais is a senior lecturer in the Department of Civil Engineering. She was a previous recipient of the Programme Mahasiswa Cemerlang under the JPA scholarship during her Master's in Engineering of Science (Environmental) studies, and later pursued her Ph.D. in Environmental Engineering under the Skim Latihan Akademik Bumiputera (SLAB) fellowship. She specialized in water and wastewater treatment, with a focus on removing conventional and emerging water pollutants using carbon materials made from biomass waste. To date, she has synthesized water/wastewater treatment materials from a variety of biomass wastes, including spent coffee bean waste, pineapple leaf waste, palm shell waste, and sugarcane bagasse. Her experience in using adsorption technology for water/wastewater treatment has sparked her interest in diversifying into other technology including catalysis and membrane filtration.

DR. SYED BAHARI RAMADZAN SYED ADNAN

Dr. Syed Bahari Ramadzan Bin Syed Adnan is currently the Deputy Director (Research and Development) at Centre for Foundation Studies in Science. He completed his PhD in Material Science via thesis by publication. His research interest are in ceramic/ hybrid electrolytes for lithium batteries and astrophysics (Radio Astronomy). He supervised 5 PhD and master students so far and published about 30 papers in high impact journal and proceedings. He also filled a patent title " A method for synthesizing nanoionic sodium zincsilicate" at 2020.

ASSOCIATE PROF. DR. HAZREENA BINTI HUSSEIN

  Hazreena Hussein has over 25 years of progressive teaching and research experience at the Universiti Malaya. Her research interests are Person-Environment interactions, inclusive access to outdoor environments and Multisensory stimulation environments. Her doctoral work focuses on accessible design to the use of sensory gardens, particularly by children with special educational needs. She has been the Principal Investigator for several projects: 'Urban Park Characteristics in integrating mental health comorbid with non-communicable diseases through salivary cortisol pattern and spatial analysis' (2019-2022)', `Landscape Identity of Cameron Highlands Hill Station: Soundscape`(2013-2017) and `Enhancing wellbeing through recreational and sensory therapy in landscape design`(2014-2017). Hazreena has been granted seed money from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Zurich (ETH) on `The Physiological Responses to Therapeutic Sensory Stimulation Garden: A pilot study (2016-2017). Her work was awarded the Best Paper at the AicE-Bs Conference in London (2013). Other recognitions awarded by UM, include The Distinguish Service Award (2012), PhD completion period less than 4 years (2010) and Excellent Service Award (2005, 2014 & 2020). Since 2012, she has served on the Editorial Board of Asian Journal of Environment-Behaviour Studies and the Journal of Asian Behavioural Studies. Having travelled extensively, she enjoys being in nature.
