ASSOCIATE PROF. DR. CHIU CHEE KIDD

Dr. Chiu Chee Kidd is an Associate Professor in University of Malaya and a Consultant Spine Surgeon in University Malaya Specialist Centre. He specializes in spinal surgery for patients with disorders of the thoracic and lumbar spine with focus on degenerative, deformity and traumatic pathologies. Dr. Chiu is an active member of numerous professional spine societies such as the Malaysian Spine Society (MSS), Asia Pacific Spine Society (APSS), AOSpine and Scoliosis Research Society (SRS). Dr. Chiu’s expertise was grounded on his research on spinal disorders and had published his researches in both local and international journals. His master’s degree thesis won the “Singapore Medical Journal Best Published Article of the Year”. His researches also won several awards in local and international conferences. Amongst them were the International Minimal Invasive Surgery Spine Congress Best Oral Paper Presentation Award, 4th International MSS Scientific Congress Best Research Award, Bioeconomy Innovation Award, PECIPTA 2017 Gold Award, Asia Pacific Spine Society & Asian Spine Journal Best Clinical Research Award, 47th Annual Meeting of the Japanese Society for Spine Surgery and Related Research English Presentation Award, 1st Annual Meeting of the Singapore Spine Society First Prize Award, Malaysian Spine Society Presidential Best Research Award, 48th Annual Meeting of the Japanese Society for Spine Surgery and Related Research Gold Prize English Presentation Award and Korean Society of Spine Surgery Best Paper Award. Dr. Chiu is a peer reviewer for several local and international journals such as Scientific Reports, PLoS ONE, BMC Musculoskeletal Disorders, Acta Orthopaedica et Traumatologica Turcica, Malaysian Orthopaedic Journal, Journal of Orthoapedic Surgery, Asian Spine Journal, Journal of Investigative Surgery, Clinical Interventions in Aging, Current Medical Research & Opinion and Medical Devices Evidence and Research. He had been awarded as the “top ten reviewer” by Journal of Orthoapedic Surgery.

ASSOCIATE PROF. DR. MASTURA BINTI ADAM

Dr. Mastura Adam PRBr is a Graduate Architect under the Malaysian Board of Architects (Lembaga Arkitek Malaysia) and a member of the Malaysian Urban Design Association (Perekabandar). She has 29 years of experience as a lecturer in the Department of Architecture at the Faculty of Built Environment, Universiti Malaya. Her teaching subjects encompass Architectural Design Studio for both undergraduate (LAM Part 1 and RIBA part 1) and postgraduate (LAM Part 2 and RIBA part 2) levels, Urban Design, Architectural Graphic Communication, History in Architecture, Measured Drawings, Culture and Context, Comparative Studies, and Research Theory and Philosophy for postgraduate students. Dr. Mastura has conducted international collaborative research with the Nippon Foundation under the ASEAN University Network-Disability and Public Policy (AUNDPPnet), focusing on inclusive learning environments. This research was further extended for the Malaysian Ministry of Higher Education. From 2018 to 2024, she has served in 7 consecutive years as a program leader with AUNDPPnet, training persons with disabilities (PWD) resource persons and access audit inspectors in the Accessibility and Universal Design Training Course. This program has produced approximately 162 alumni among the PWDs from 10 ASEAN countries. She has published books, book chapters, and journal articles, and has been involved in consulting work related to architectural design, urban design, sustainable development, urban planning, universal design, and architectural education. Dr. Mastura has supervised numerous Ph.D. and Master by Research students in the fields of Architecture and Urban Planning, as well as Master in Architecture (LAM Part 2 and RIBA Part 2) candidates. In her professional recognition, Dr. Mastura has contributed to local authority initiatives, including the Urban Design and Walkability Study and Place Making Study. She was appointed as an Urban Design consultant by City Hall Kuala Lumpur from 2015 to 2016 and Kerajaan Negeri Pahang for Penanda Aras Premis Mesra OKU ke Australia in 2024. In acknowledgment of her contributions to urban design, she served as a board member for Perekabandar from 2020 to 2022, promoting good urban design for Malaysian cities and sharing her expertise in the Urban Design Master Class Series.

DR. CATHERINE THAMARAI A/P ARUMUGAM

Dr Catherine Thamarai Arumugam is currently attached to the Family Health Discipline, Department of Social and Preventive Medicine, Faculty of Medicine, University of Malaya as a Medical Lecturer with a specialisation in Public Health Medicine. Her past publications speaks of her interest in the research on early childhood development, infectious diseases and her love for poetries. In an unwavering effort of creating a safe media environment for thriving children - she is interested to further explore on the dynamics of technology, toddlers and family relationships.  A medical degree holder from Universitas Sumatera Utara, Indonesia - her journey as a junior doctor started at the Sungai Buloh Hospital which is also the national referral centre for infectious disease. Upon completion of housemanship training, she went on to serve as a Medical Officer in Charge of a maternal child health clinic in the district of Temerloh, Pahang. The responsibility entrusted granted her invaluable experience especially in the domains of maternal child health and disaster preparedness – stirring the passion towards public health. Dr Catherine went back to Temerloh District Health Office with a Doctorate in Public Health from Universiti Malaya - serving as an Epidemiology Officer, heading the Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Unit during the COVID19 rampage. Her major tasks revolved around surveillance, outbreak response, training activities and playing the role of liaison officer for the state-level CDC department. From Ministry of Health to Ministry of Higher Education – Dr Catherine has now started her new venture as a medical lecturer, striving to be an advocate for public health issues she is passionate about through her research works and creative writings!
