ASSOCIATE PROF. IR. DR. ANIS SALWA BINTI MOHD KHAIRUDDIN

Associate Professor Dr. Anis Salwa Mohd Khairuddin is currently affiliated at the Department of Electrical Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, Universiti Malaya. She is also a Chartered Engineer registered under the Engineering Council, U.K. and a member of IEEE Computational Intelligence Society (CIS). In addition, she serves as Malaysia Focal point for Sub-Committee on Microelectronics and Information Technology (SCMIT) in ASEAN COSTI (from year 2020 until current). The Committee on Science, Technology & Innovation (COSTI) is responsible for operationalizing and translating the APASTI strategic thrusts into specific actions.  As for administrative responsibilities, she was the Final year Project (FYP) Coordinator from 2015/2016 until 2019/2020. Consecutively, she was appointed as the Outcome-Based Education (OBE) coordinator since 2020/2021 until 2023/2024. Currently, she is the Head of Department for the Department of Electrical Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, Universiti Malaya. In addition, she serves as the Head of Centre of Intelligent Systems for Emerging Technology (CISET), Faculty of Engineering, UM. Her research expertise lies in pattern recognition area, focusing on the application of artificial intelligence by developing computationally intelligent algorithms for spatial and temporal signal processing.  She works on the application of machine learning methods to solve various pattern recognition problems in precision agriculture, smart manufacturing, and energy management. ASSOCIATE PROF. DR. FONNY DAMEATY HUTAGALUNG

  Associate Professor Dr. Fonny Dameaty Hutagalung is a leading scholar in Educational Psychology with deep specialization in the psychological development of young children. She is currently based in the Department of Educational Psychology and Counselling, Faculty of Education, University of Malaya. She earned her PhD in Psychology from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia, where her academic foundation was rooted in cognitive, emotional, and behavioural development in early childhood. Throughout her career, Dr. Fonny has dedicated her scholarship to the psychological mechanisms that influence learning, behaviour, and emotional well-being in children aged 0–8 years. Her core academic and research identity lies in Early Childhood Education Psychology — a cross-disciplinary domain that blends developmental psychology with pedagogical theory to enhance learning outcomes in early years. She has been instrumental in promoting this field through teaching, curriculum development, policy consultation, and scholarly leadership in Malaysia and internationally. Leadership and Administrative Roles Dr. Fonny has held several key leadership positions at the University of Malaya. She served as Head of the Department of Educational Psychology and Counselling from 2015 to 2017, where she was responsible for sustaining departmental programmes, implementing strategic planning, and ensuring the academic quality of undergraduate and postgraduate education. She has also been the Programme Coordinator for both the Bachelor (2012–2015) and Master (2012–present) of Early Childhood Education programmes. In these roles, she has coordinated curriculum reviews, collaborated with faculty members and industry stakeholders, and ensured the relevance and quality of the academic offerings. In addition to her department-level responsibilities, Dr. Fonny currently serves as Chairperson of the University Malaya Family Research and Development Centre (UMFRDC), where she leads research projects and outreach programmes aimed at supporting children, families, and educators. Leadership in Early Childhood Educational Psychology Programmes Dr. Fonny’s leadership has shaped Malaysia’s landscape of early childhood teacher training and academic research. As Programme Coordinator for both the Bachelor and Master of Early Childhood Education programmes at the University of Malaya since 2012, she has led the design and implementation of psychology-informed curricula that reflect contemporary understanding of child development. These programmes integrate developmental milestones, learning theories, and classroom practices to equip future educators with the psychological tools needed to support diverse learners in their formative years. Her efforts in leading curriculum reviews, assessment reforms, and academic accreditation have ensured that psychological theories are not only studied academically but translated into practical teaching strategies — especially in inclusive classrooms and early intervention settings. She has had been appointed as "visiting professor" in Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia (2017) and Zhejiang Yuexiu University of Foreign Language in China (2019), Adjunct Professor for Master of Science (Psychology) and Doctor of Philosophy in Psychology. Lincoln University College Malaysia (2024-2026) and Adjunct Professor in Faculty of Psychology, Universitas Negeri Malang Indonesia( 2024-2026). Awards and Intellectual Property In recognition of her academic excellence, Dr. Fonny has received numerous awards, including Best Paper Awards at international conferences in 2016, 2018, and 2019. She was also honoured with the Universiti Malaya Excellent Service Award in 2021 and 2025, and received the Certificate of Service Award in 2016 and 2023. In 2022, she was granted Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) for a collaborative research project conducted with Universiti Malaya and Universitas Negeri Semarang (UNNES), Indonesia. Academic Duties and Advisory Roles Dr. Fonny has been appointed to several advisory and evaluation roles both within and outside the university. In 2024, she was named an expert advisor for strategic planning and professional development at Pusat Permata Pintar Negara. She also contributes to national educational policy as an expert in Educational Psychology and Early Childhood Education appointed by the Ministry of Education Malaysia, specifically for the development of the 2027 national curriculum for Year One special needs students. Her academic involvement includes reviewing research proposals for Universiti Malaya’s Proposal Enhancement Unit, contributing to the development of training modules for early-career researchers, and conducting motivational sessions in schools and public seminars on issues such as childhood obesity, digital addiction, and aggressive behaviour. She also serves as an assessor for MQA-accredited early childhood programmes at UNITAR and MCKL, and participates as a panellist for new lecturer recruitment and pharmacy student personality screenings. She is appointed as external supervisors and giving consultancies for 2 PhD students from Universitas Negeri Malang, Indonesia. Editorial and Publishing Roles Since 2019, Dr. Fonny has served as Editor-in-Chief of the Malaysian Online Journal of Psychology and Counselling (MOJPC). In this capacity, she manages the editorial board, oversees the peer-review process, and ensures publication quality with the goal of achieving Scopus indexing. Her editorial expertise extends to serving as Guest Editor for the Education and Information Technologies journal (Springer) and editing a wide range of academic books for international publishers including CRC Press, Taylor & Francis, and Springer. Her edited works span various interdisciplinary topics, including social sciences, knowledge management, tourism, cyber society, and early childhood education.More than 8(eight) edited books proceding was published.  Supervision and Examination As a dedicated educator, Dr. Fonny has 20 PhD and 43 Master's students graduated, with a total of 75 postgraduate students under her guidance. She is also frequently appointed as an external examiner for doctoral dissertations from institutions such as International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM), Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), UPSI, UNITAR, UTAR, Lincoln University College, University of Newcastle (Australia), Universitas Negeri Malang, Universitas Bina Nusantara, and Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia. Her external examination work focuses on topics related to educational psychology and early childhood education. Research Excellence in Early Childhood Educational Psychology Dr. Fonny has led or collaborated on 21 funded research projects (13 as Principal Investigator), securing RM531,525 in research grants. Her research collaborations involve academic staff from the Faculty of Education, Faculty of Medicine, and Faculty of Dentistry at the University of Malaya, as well as partners from UKM and various universities in Indonesia. Her work is grounded in understanding the cognitive, socio-emotional, and behavioural trajectories of young children. She investigates themes such as emotional intelligence among early childhood teachers, socio-emotional learning frameworks for pre-schoolers, psychological resilience among children affected by trauma, and the impact of parental scaffolding and teacher-child interaction on learning outcomes. One of her key research strands focuses on the psychosocial well-being of young children, especially those facing adversity — including children with cancer, children in indigenous communities, and those affected by environmental disasters. She has also explored the cognitive psychology of early literacy and numeracy, with a particular interest in the role of dramatic play and executive function development in school readiness. Her findings have led to the development of child-centred psychological intervention models and teacher training frameworks that are now being referenced in national curriculum development and early intervention programmes. Scholarly Publications in Early Childhood Education Psychology Dr. Fonny has published over 50 scholarly articles in high-impact, peer-reviewed journals indexed in Scopus, ESCI, and ISI. Her works span topics such as early cognitive ability, emotional regulation in pre-schoolers, behavioural management in classroom settings, and the development of psychological tools for teacher assessment. These publications have collectively earned her an H-index of 7 and over 145 citations, attesting to her scholarly influence in the field. Her authored books reflect her integrated approach to psychology and pedagogy in the early years. These include Penyelidikan Dalam Pendidikan Awal Kanak-Kanak (2021), Pembanguan Sumber Manusia (2023),(Fostering Sustainability Consciousness in Early Childhood Education (2025), and Prinsip Pengurusan Tingkah Laku: Teori, Amalan dan Strategi Pengajaran (2025). Each of these contributions applies core psychological principles to early education environments and challenges. She is also actively involved in editorial work. As Editor-in-Chief of the Malaysian Online Journal of Psychology and Counselling (MOJPC) since 2019, she has promoted academic discourse in the field of early childhood psychology and continues to mentor early-career researchers in publishing applied psychological studies. Policy and National Contributions in Early Childhood Psychology Dr. Fonny’s expertise has been recognized at national policy levels. She has been appointed by the Ministry of Education Malaysia as an expert for the development of the 2027 Year One curriculum for special needs children, contributing psychological frameworks for inclusive learning environments. She is also an advisor to Pusat Permata Pintar Negara, where she provides psychological consultation for gifted education and staff development, invited expert for New Learning Modul MARA Schools and Task Force for Kindrgarten UM for developing curriculum. She serves on several national panels evaluating educational research grants, including FRGS and TRGS, and plays a pivotal role in mentoring early childhood practitioners through curriculum workshops, pedagogical innovation forums, and psychological training modules for educators. Her public contributions include numerous appearances on Malaysian television, newspaper and public seminars, where she shares expert insights on childhood behaviour problems, gadget addiction, learning disorders, and family-based emotional development strategies.   Community and Industry Engagement Dr. Fonny is highly committed to community engagement, often integrating academic knowledge with real-world outreach. As a member of Pertubuhan Ihsan Perdana Selangor, she has organized and led numerous programmes for underserved populations, including literacy development and build mini labrary for Orang Asli children in Pulau Carey, psychosocial support for children affected by natural disasters in Kelantan, and rehabilitation-focused education programmes for incarcerated youth in Terengganu. She has also worked with private companies (Sime darby), government bodies, and universities in community-based projects such as psychoeducation workshops for Indonesian children in Kuala Lumpur, nutrition programmes in Royal Belum, join tution program with  children ASDAF(orang Asli) and explorative learning activities in Asrama Damai Kuang, explorative program "kami peduli" with juvenile school in Kuala Lumpur. Additionally, she is actively involved in the Parent-Teacher Association at Sekolah Sultan Alamsyah in Putrajaya and others schools, where she frequently delivers motivational talks to students, teachers, and parents.   Community Engagement Rooted in Early Childhood Education Psychology A hallmark of Dr. Fonny’s career is her deep engagement with underserved communities, applying psychological knowledge to improve real-world outcomes for children. She has led and co-organized psychoeducation programmes for flood-affected children in Kelantan, trauma-informed learning sessions in prisons and indigenous communities, and nutrition and emotional resilience workshops for Orang Asli pre-schoolers in collaboration with JAKOA, UM, and private sector partners. These initiatives are informed by her research and focus on building emotional literacy, behavioural regulation, and supportive learning environments for children exposed to socio-environmental stressors. Her research collaboration has also led to a co-developed IP (Intellectual Property) with Indonesia researchers in 2022. National and International Scholarly Engagements Dr. Fonny regularly participates in scholarly events at both the national and international levels. She has contributed to national workshops on psychodiagnostics for traumatized children using the House-Tree-Person method in 2022, 2024, and 2025, introduce psychodiagnostics in education systems, and facilitated workshops on publishing in Scopus-indexed journals, systematic literature reviews, and research strategy development. In 2025, she served on the panel to evaluate community engagement proposals for the CAKNA grant initiative and continues to evaluate research proposals for national funding schemes including FRGS and TRGS. Internationally, Dr. Fonny is a frequent more than 10 as keynote speaker and invited presenter at academic conferences and seminars. She has delivered keynote addresses at SEAMEO conferences on Early Childhood Care and Education in 2019 and 2023, and spoken at major universities in Indonesia on topics such as inclusive learning, ethics in early childhood education, and research in early childhood development. She was invited by Universitas Negeri Semarang in 2025 to give a guest lecture on building inclusive learning environments. Her international speaking engagements also include forums in China and joint seminars with Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia and IAI Al Hikmah Jakarta.   International Engagements and Mobility in Early Childhood Research Dr. Fonny plays a key role in advancing international partnerships in Early Childhood Education Psychology. She is frequently invited as a keynote speaker and workshop facilitator at early childhood-focused conferences and seminars across Southeast Asia, including Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia, Universitas Negeri Jakarta, Universitas Negeri Malang, Universitas PGRI Kanjuruan Malang, Universitas Islam Indonesia, Early Childhood Program Institute agama Islam Hikmah Tuban, Early Childhood Program Lukmanulhakeem Foundation Yala in Thailand, Yan’an University in China, Zhejiang Yuexiu University of Foreign Language in China, Universitas Negeri Semarang, and the South East Asia Ministers of Education Organization (SEAMEO) on ECCE initiatives. She has delivered guest lectures on inclusive learning environments, trauma-informed early childhood education, and values-based teaching to postgraduate students, educators, and policymakers. Notably, she has led outbound student mobility programmes to leading Indonesian institutions such as to Universitas Gadjah Mada, Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia, and Universitas Siliwangi, Indonesia and hosted international summer camps and short courses in Malaysia such as the 7th PSYCHE Summer Course  from Universitas Diponegoro and a Summer Camp for students from China in 2025 to promote regional collaboration in ECE pedagogy and early childhood education psychology. She was collaborate with many researchers through  Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) and Agreements (MoAs) with over 15 universities across Indonesia, Dr. Fonny has laid the groundwork for a regional network focused on psychological research, early childhood development, and teacher education.  Dr. Fonny Dameaty Hutagalung exemplifies academic and applied leadership in Early Childhood Education Psychology. Her work bridges rigorous psychological research with compassionate educational practices, ensuring that every child — regardless of background — has the cognitive, emotional, and social foundation to thrive in their earliest years.
