Noran N Hairi is the Deputy Dean for Research at the Faculty of Medicine, Universiti Malaya, and Professor of Epidemiology and Public Health. Medically trained at Universiti Malaya (UM), she served in Malaysia’s Ministry of Health before earning both an MPH and an MPH (Epidemiology) with distinction from UM, and a PhD from the University of Sydney, Australia. Noran is best known for her work on the epidemiology of ageing, with a particular focus on sarcopenia, and frailty. She has made significant contributions to research on elder abuse, neglect, and financial mistreatment among older adults. She led the Prevent Elder Abuse and Neglect Initiative (PEACE), which adopted a holistic, interdisciplinary approach to address late-life abuse through professional training, public awareness campaigns, and policy advocacy. PEACE provided a platform for legislators and policymakers, leading to calls for better elder protection framework. The PEACE 1.0 study identified financial exploitation as the most common form of elder abuse, prompting the PEACE 2.0 project, a collaborative effort with Agensi Kaunseling dan Pengurusan Kredit (AKPK) under Bank Negara Malaysia. Currently, the PEACE 3.0 team is working with the World Health Organization (WHO) to evaluate elder abuse assessment tools. She has published extensively, supervised over 80 postgraduate students, and held key leadership roles including Dean (Health and Wellbeing Research Cluster), Chair (Research Cluster), and Head of Research Centres such as the Julius Centre University Malaya and the Centre for Epidemiology and Evidence-Based Practice. Dr. Noran has contributed significantly to research, policy development, and public engagement in Malaysia. As a Member of the National Senior Citizens Advisory and Consultative Council (MPPWEN) and a Fellow of the Faculty of Public Health, UK, she is deeply committed to advancing public health and championing critical ageing issues. Her work focuses on elder protection, combating age discrimination, and promoting social inclusion, reflecting her dedication to research excellence, education, and collaborative leadership to improve the lives of older adults.
show more »Dr Mukhri Hamdan is a professor of Obstetrics and Gynaecology with a subspecialist in reproductive medicine. He works as an O&G consultant at Universiti Malaya Medical (UMMC) and Specialist Centre (UMSC). He is the Head of the O&G Department in the Faculty of Medicine, Universiti Malaya and also the Vice President for the College of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Academy of Medicine Malaysia. He sits on the National Obstetrics & Gynaecology and Reproductive Medicine subspecialty evaluation committee for the Malaysian Medical Council (MMC). He is actively involved in the Advisory and Coordinating Committee for Reproductive Health (Subfertility) for LPPKN. He holds a PhD from the University of Southampton UK in reproductive sciences (Endometriosis) and also a clinical master in Obstetrics and Gynaecology (MObGyn) from the University Malaya. He was trained locally and in the United Kingdom hospitals. After he completed his clinical master, he joined Complete Fertility Southampton, United Kingdom and gained advanced training in infertility. He is certified by British Fertility Society (BFS) to perform embryo transfer (IVF/ET) and intrauterine insemination (IUI). Dr. Mukhri has been a keen researcher in the field of reproduction. He has presented his work in many international meetings and has published them in high-impact academic journals in various aspects of the endometriosis field. He has also been actively involved in writing up the National Curriculum for O&G. He speaks regularly in local and international congresses and is currently elected as the council member for the College of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Academy of Medicine Malaysia. He has the vision to improve the quality of training both in O&G and reproductive medicine training. show more »Ahmad Najib bin Abdullah, dilahirkan pada 3 Mac 1966 di Kubang Kerian, Kota Bharu, Kelantan. Mendapat pendidikan awal di Sekolah Rendah Kebangsaan Kubang Kerian ( 1973-1978). Beliau melanjutkan pengajian peringkat menengah di Ma’ahad Muhammadi Kota Bharu ( 1979-1985 ). Seterusnya beliau menyambung pengajian di Universiti Islam Madinah, Arab Saudi dan mendapat Ijazah Sarjana Muda Dakwah dan Usuluddin ( 1989 ), Sarjana Tafsir ( 1994), dan Ijazah Kedoktoran Ph.D Tafsir (1998 ). Sekembali ke tanahair, beliau berkhidmat di Ma’ahad Al-Dakwah Wa Al-Imamah sebelum diserap menjadi Kolej Islam Antarabangsa Sultan Ismail Petra ( KIAS ). Selain memegang jawatan pensyarah, beliau telah diberi kepercayaan menjadi Ketua Jabatan Dakwah dan Ketua Jabatan Usuluddin. Terakhir beliau dilantik menjawat jawatan Timbalan Ketua Eksekutif ( HEP ) KIAS. Pada 1 Januari 2008, beliau bertugas sebagai pensyarah kanan di Akademi Pengajian Islam, Universiti Malaya, cawangan Nilam Puri. Sepanjang perkhidmatan, beliau pernah dilantik menjadi Ahli Jamaah Tashih Tafsir JAKIM, Panel Pakar Aqidah JAKIM, Ahli Jawatankuasa Fatwa Negeri Perlis, Ahli Jama’ah Penulis Majalah PENGASUH, Ahli Jawatankuasa Buku Teks Yayasan Islam Kelantan ( YIK ) dan Ahli Jawatankuasa Penyelidikan dan Membasmi Ajaran Sesat (MAIK ). Di peringkat Universiti Malaya kampus Nilam Puri, beliau telah diberi amanah untuk menjawat beberapa jawatan pentadbiran seperti, Penyelaras Penyelidikan dan Pembangunan ( 2008-2011 ),Penyelaras Program Asasi ( 2011-2012), Timbalan Pengarah UM Nilam Puri ( 2013-2020) dan Penyelaras Penyelidikan dan Penerbitan UMEC, Bachok ( 2021-2024 ).
