DR. ANAND RAMANATHAN

Dr. Anand Ramanathan graduated with a Bachelor of Dental Surgery from Saveetha Dental College & Hospital under The Tamil Nadu Dr. MGR Medical University, Chennai, India in 2002. He then pursued his Master of Dental Surgery, specializing in Oral & Maxillofacial Pathology at Rajah Muthiah Dental Collage & Hospitals, Annamalai University, Chidambaram, India in 2009. He then migrated to Malaysia where he did his spouse program at the Faculty of Dentistry, Universiti Malaya to obtain his practicing license in Malaysia in 2011. From 2009 to 2011 during his spouse program he was actively involved in research with Oral Cancer Research & Coordinating Center (OCRCC), Faculty of Dentistry, Universiti Malaya. His passion for teaching and research led him to join the Faculty of Dentistry, here at Universiti Malaya and he has since become a valuable senior lecturer and clinical specialist in the Department of Oral & Maxillofacial Clinical Sciences. He has been the module head of various integrated modules such as oral malignancy & potentially malignant disorders, tumours and tumour-like lesions of the jaws and undergraduate discipline coordinator for oral medicine and oral pathology. He has been a member of curriculum review for undergraduate and postgraduate programs in oral pathology and oral medicine at the Faculty of Dentistry, Universiti Malaya. He is also a trainer of the OralDetect which is a training and calibration program for early detection of oral cancer and oral potentially malignant disorders. He has successfully conducted OralDetect program in Malaysia, Indonesia, Cambodia, Nepal and India training undergraduate students, general dentist, postgraduate students and various specialist in dentistry. He is an adjunct faculty member in Faculty of Dentistry, University of Puthisastra, Phnom Penh, Cambodia, Tagore Dental College and Hospital, Sri Ramachandra University Dental College and Hospital, Sree Balaji Dental College and Hospital, Chennai, India, Saveetha Dental College and Hospitals, Chennai, India and Dr. D.Y. Patil Dental College and Hospitals, Pune, India. An ardent researcher, he has 81 papers in indexed international peer reviewed journals, with a h-index of 18. He is involved in numerous research projects and has supervised PhD, Masters and graduate research students for the past 13 years. He is also a Research fellow at MAHSA University, Malaysia. He was awarded the outstanding researcher in Oral & Maxillofacial Pathology at the 3rd Venus International Healthcare Awards 2020 (VIHA, 2020) by the Venus International Foundation. He also received the Sijil Perkhidmatan Cemerlang (Certificate of Excellent Service) by University of Malaya in 2021. He is currently an active member of OCRCC, Malaysian Association for Orofacial Diseases and Asian Society of Oral & Maxillofacial Pathology. His research interest are oral cancer, oral potentially malignant disorders, oral pathology, oral medicine, immunohistochemistry, adjunct diagnostic tools, natural products and drug toxicity, oncoimmunology, homeobox genes and odontogenic lesions.

DR. FATIHA BINTI SENOM

Dr. Fatiha Senom is a Senior Lecturer and a Teacher Educator in the Department of Language & Literacy Education, Faculty of Education, Universiti Malaya, as well as a homegrown scholar whose work bridges rigorous scholarship with real-world impact in TESOL and Second Language Teacher Education (SLTE). She earned a B.Ed TESL from Universiti Malaya with distinction and was awarded the Anugerah Pelajaran Diraja (2009), followed by a fast-track Ph.D. in Education (TESL) in 2016. With research interests on ESL teacher identity; mentoring and professional development; translanguaging and language-learning investment; and ESL writing anxiety, her work advances TESOL and SLTE through research-informed pedagogy and curriculum reform, evidenced by excellent PhD research supervision and publications in Scopus/WoS venues, books with Routledge and Pearson, and chapters with leading presses. As principal investigator, Dr. Fatiha has successfully led four national and two international research grants in her areas of expertise and has served as co-researcher on eighteen additional national and international projects. She also leads language recovery and enrichment projects for underserved primary and secondary learners, most recently, the WIRA EDUCARE project in Kg. Melayu Wira Damai, Gombak, under the Ministry of Higher Education's Kampung Angkat Madani initiative, embodying the university’s mission of social responsibility and educational equity. Nationally, she serves as an expert panel member for the 2027 school curriculum reform (Kurikulum Persekolahan 2027) for Ministry of Education, chairperson of the evaluation panel for the English Textbook Package, 2027 School Curriculum for Dewan Bahasa dan Pustakaa MUET (Malaysian University English Test) item developer with Malaysian Examination Council, and a consultant to National Institute of Public Administration Malaysia (INTAN) on CEFR-aligned assessment; internationally, she has served as a consultant for Universitas Negeri Medan on Outcome-Based Education and delivered keynotes at several international conferences. As M.Ed ESL Programme Coordinator (2018–2024), she led curriculum design, review, and sustainability initiatives, introduced flexible study plans to support timely completion, and curated a world-class learning experience that strengthened postgraduate scholarly skills. Recognised with the Certificate of Excellent Service (2021, 2023) and the Excellence Service Award (2024), Dr. Fatiha advances UM’s academic footprint through research, teaching, policy engagement, and community partnership, shaping confident, ethically grounded English language professionals for a rapidly changing world.

DR. SONIA KUMARI A/P SELVARAJAN

Dr. Sonia Kumari is Senior Lecturer at Department of Development Studies, Faculty of Business and Economics, University of Malaya. She holds PhD (Financial Development and Economic Growth, UNIMAS, Malaysia), MEcon (Public Policy, UKM, Malaysia) and BEc (Management Economics, UKM, Malaysia).  Her research expertise includes, Financial Development ; Financial Integration; Financial Inclusion; Sustainable Finance; Climate Finance; and Financial management of small businesses, with main focus on multidisciplinary themes related to emerging and developing economies. Her previous work experience includes: Associate Economist at the Central Bank of Malaysia (BNM) ; Visiting Research Fellow at Bocconi University, Milan, Italy; Visiting Research Fellow at Instituto Complutense de Estudios Internacionales (ICEI), Complutense University of Madrid, Spain; Lecturer at Help University, Malaysia.  She has taught several courses at Undergraduate level including:  Microfinance and Social Enterprise, Analysis of Development Projects, SME Development, Agriculture Business Management, Agriculture Development, Development Economics and Research Methodology (at University of Malaya); Principles of Business Management, Principles of Macroeconomics and Principles of Microeconomics (at Help University). Postgraduate courses: Sustainable Finance (Universiti Malaya).  She supervised over 50 UG projects including industrial placement projects (at University of Malaya); over 15 Masters Research Projects (at University of Malaya); and 1 Doctoral completion (current PhD supervision = 8).   Produced over 30 publications, including book chapters, articles in internationally refereed journals, policy briefs and reports. She has also reviewed several papers for journals and conferences.  She has led research projects on: "Financial Inclusion and Inclusive Growth" and "Government Supports And Food Operator's Performance In Klang Valley" (University Grant). She is also a co-researcher for projects such as "Role of Social Enterprise in Poverty Alleviation and Inclusive Development in Malaysia" (University Grants); Developing Environmental Reporting Framework for the Small and Medium Enterprises in Malaysia: Using Q-Methodological Approach" (FRGS, Government of Malaysia) and "Catching-up along the Global Value Chain: models, determinants and policy implications in the era of the Fourth Industrial Revolution" (European Commission Grant). She has research collaborative links in several countries including South Africa, China and Bangladesh.  She is an Associate Editor for Journal of Institutions and Economies.
