DR. RAJIV A/L RAVI

Ts. Dr. Rajiv Ravi is a Researcher and Senior Lecturer from the Department of Parasitology, Faculty of Medicine, University Malaya (UM). Professional Technologist (Ts) certified under (MBOT), Biotechnology specialist. Rajiv Ravi completed his undergraduate in the field of Biotechnology in 2010 and venture into Parasitology in the field of applied parasitology in University Science Malaysia (2013). He has been active in understanding the role, life cycles, prevalences, morphology and molecular identifications parasites in aquatic environment, mainly Zeylanicobdella argumensis, Neobenedenia melleni, Acanthocephala, and Caligus clemensi. Further completed Molecular Parasitology Doctoral Research (PhD) in University Science Malaysia in the year (2018). He then pursued his Postdoctoral work in collaborative research project from Vector Control Research Unit (VCRU) USM & UMK on the establishment of various bioinsecticides against Aedes mosquitoes. The notable achievements in his term were from the invention of Nano-Azo’s Mosquito Control, published 2019 in Berita Harian Malaysian Newspapers under the segment of Varsity. Additionally, won Gold Medals in ITEX, MTE 2019 and Invited Judge Panel for MTE Invention and Innovation Award Category, 2020. Moving on from there he, joined private academic university as a Lecturer, and secured Principal Investigator(PI) for KPT Research Grants Title, Larvicidal activities of Areca catechu L. extracts against Aedes (Diptera) (FRGS) worth RM70,100 and Co-Researcher for MOF research grant title, Superfood Spirulina worth RM284,000. Next in his career progression, he moved his achievements as Head of Biology Department for Sumitomo Chemicals under the Environmental Health and Technology Centre (EHTC), working with new active developments and data generations for HCRL, Tarkazuka, Japan Research Sumitomo Institutions. He also played major role as New Idea Development (NID) coordinator for Environmental Health Technology Centre (EHTC), Asia Pacific and Japan.

DR. NUR AIRINA BINTI MUHAMAD

Dr Airina is currently a Senior Lecturer at the Institute of Biological Sciences, Faculty of Science, University Malaya. She earned both her Bachelor of Science (Biochemistry) and Master of Science (Lipid Biochemistry) degree from University Malaya in 2003 and 2008 respectively. In 2013, she graduated from University of Cambridge, United Kingdom with a PhD in Pharmacology. Her PhD thesis work focuses on magnetoreception. A study on how animals having the ability to detect the Earth’s magnetic field whereby her research was to understand the cellular basis and the mechanism underlying the single domain magnetite of magnetoreceptor cells in fish. Her research interests include looking at the uses of natural products especially form Traditional Malaysian plants as an alternative medicine. She is interested in investigating the phytochemistry, molecular biology of medicinal plants and bioassays activity of natural products. Her current research includes the study of various traditional plants that help to reduce hypertension, lowering blood sugar level and oxidative stress. This is an important area to explore as there is still a general lack of knowledge and much misinformation remain about natural products in plants and their uses by people. Besides that, her research interest includes the study of proteolytic enzymes and anti-inflammatory activities of the Butterfly leaf, Christia vespertilionis. Dr Airina is also looking at venturing into projects which involves anti-cancer properties from medicinal plants. Besides doing research, she is teaching undergraduates students of Biohealth Program, Institute of Biological Science, Faculty of Science, University Malaya. Her core teaching subjects includes Pharmacology, Drug Analysis and Analytical Biochemistry. Besides that, she has been teaching various Laboratory courses due to her expertise in Biochemistry. On top of that, Dr Airina has supervised more than 15 undergraduate students for their final year projects and currently supervising and co-supervising up to 4 graduate students. She is the Principal investigator for a research grant and a Co-PI of a research collaborating with MAHSA university. She has authored and co-authored more then 5 research papers with a number of conference proceedings. She was also appointed as the Secretary and fellow of the Fifth Residential college and has been a residential college fellow for almost 10 years. She is dedicated towards helping students to improve in their soft skills abilities and to expose students towards community engagement programs. Dr Airina is the fellow advisor for various established programs such as the Education Malaysia (EDUMAS), Malaysian Blood Donation (NBD) and other community engagement programs.

PROF. DR. SABRI BIN MUSA

Professor Dr. Sabri Musa was appointed as Deputy Vice Chancellor (Student Affairs), Universiti Malaya from July 2021. Prior to this appointment, he was the Dean of Faculty of Dentistry, Universiti Malaya (August 2019-June 2021). Professor Dr. Sabri Musa pursue his studies in 1982 at the Science Foundation Centre, Universiti Malaya, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. In 1989, he graduated from Universiti Malaya with a Bachelor of Dental Surgery and joined the Faculty of Dentistry. His clinical and research training was conducted at the Eastman Dental Institute, University of London, where he received his Master of Science in Paediatric Dentistry with a 3M Prize Award in 1993. In 2020, he received his doctorate degree (PhD) from Universiti Malaya. Professor Dr. Sabri Musa was appointed as a lecturer and professor in Paediatric Dentistry at Universiti Malaya in 1993 and 2016, respectively. Since 2000, he has held various positions such as Head of the Department of Pediatric Dentistry and Orthodontics, Deputy Dean Postgraduate, Principal of the Universiti Malaya Residential College, and Head of the Regenerative Dentistry Research Group, Faculty of Dentistry, Universiti Malaya. His publications have focused on his main area of research in paediatric dentistry and dental stem cells. As an academician, he also practices his specialty in paediatric dentistry at the faculty and the Universiti Malaya Specialist Centre. Professor Dr. Sabri Musa has been appointed as an external examiner in paediatric dentistry by various public and private dental universities. He has also been invited to deliver a speech and present papers at local and international conferences. He has also been appointed as a consultant for private companies due to his expertise in dental stem cells. Since 2015, he has served as a panel member for the Malaysian Qualifications Agency in the field of dentistry. He was recently appointed as a member for the Malaysian Dental Council. Outside of the classroom, Professor Dr. Sabri Musa is very active and has served as an advisor for student activities at the faculty and university levels. He has represented Universiti Malaya in athletics, tenpin bowling, and volleyball at the Malaysian Intervarsity Staff Games. In athletics, he has been represented Universiti Malaya at the ASEAN Intervarsity Games level since his student days, and he is still competing in the veteran category at the Malaysian Intervarsity Staff Games.
