Dr Adibi M. Nor is a multidisciplinary marine biologist and aquaculturist by training, with 20 years of experience in the fisheries sector. His work focuses on fisheries policy, particularly the sustainability of seaweed commercialisation among Malaysian coastal communities and the impact of this activity on their livelihoods. He was an employee of the Department of Fisheries (DOF) Malaysia, under the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security, from 2003 until 2018. Dr Adibi was involved with the development of the national seaweed policy, in particular the implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of this policy. He is now a senior lecturer and PhD and MPhil programme coordinator at the Institute for Advanced Studies (IAS), Universiti Malaya. Throughout his career as a policymaker, scientist, and business development leader with the agri/aquaculture company, he has developed a deep understanding of and a strong background in food security and agri/aquaculture, specialising in addressing the challenges and complexities of the global food system. This breadth of experience has shaped his insights into the flow of using scientific evidence in the policy-making process. To ensure sustainability and share his expertise with society, Dr Adibi has developed the Student Holistic Empowerment (SHE) academic course known as Nasi Lemak and Food Systems at Universiti Malaya. He has published widely on seaweed and fisheries research related to policy, biology, and value chain aspects. He was appointed as a reviewer for the International Journal of Food Science & Technology, the Journal of Aquaculture, Fish, and Fisheries, the Journal of Quality and Quantity, the Journal of Applied Phycology, the Journal of Socioeconomics and Development, and Botanica Marina in 2024, 2023, 2022, 2021, 2020, and 2019. He was a consultant for international and local seaweed projects from 2019 until 2025 and a scientific advisor and business development planner for the Abalone Aquaculture Company in 2018. Currently, he is actively pursuing innovation in seaweed cultivation as nature-based solutions (website: https://drcweedaquasolutions.com/). Dr Adibi experimented with new farming methods, such as Integrated Multitrophic Aquaculture (IMTA) systems, to enhance seaweed production for food security while minimising environmental impact. His research led to discoveries that improved seaweed disease management and optimised the extraction of valuable compounds for various industries, including food, cosmetics, bioplastics, biostimulants and animal feed. He is passionate about making aquaculture development sustainable and equitable for the local community and the environment. He is currently a Senior Lecturer in Universiti Malaya, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.A recipient of the ASEAN-India Youth Award (2018), Singapore Youth Award (2017), National Arts Council Scholarship (2017) and Goh Chok Tong Mendaki Youth Promise Award (2016), Amin holds a PhD in Theatre, Drama and Dance Studies from Royal Holloway, University of London, UK.He is the founding member of a few collectives in Singapore and Malaysia: DIAN Dancers, a youth Malay Dance group; Arki-Gen, a research collective focused on Southeast Asian performing arts and Ruai Kolektif, a collective to promote Bornean Arts in Peninsular Malaysia and beyond.
show more »Dr. Yang Faridah Abdul Aziz is an academic professor and a consultant radiologist. She is currently the Dean of the Faculty of medicine, Universiti Malaya, Malaysia. She received her undergraduate and postgraduate training at the University of Malaya. She underwent a clinical attachment in Cardiac Imaging in the United States of America in 2000/2001. She completed the Essential Skills in Medical Education course and was awarded the ESME certificate in Medical Education in 2019. She is an alumnus of the IDC programme organized by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) focusing on training academics on higher education and change management. She completed a Master of Medical Education programme at University Malaya in 2022, in her bid to acquire new knowledge and be a lifelong learner. Over the years, she has honed her skills in the academic, professional clinical service and managerial endeavours. As an academic, she is involved in developing, implementing, and ensuring quality improvement of the undergraduate and postgraduate programmes at the University Malaya. As the Deputy Dean of Undergraduate programmes (2015-2021), she helmed and aided the shift to e-learning and the use of digital platforms during the Covid-19 pandemic. She has collaborated with national and regional partners and looks forward to continuing participation in impactful research and best practices in the field of medical education. As a consultant radiologist, she provides clinical services at the University of Malaya teaching hospital, known as the University Malaya Medical Centre (UMMC) as well as the University Malaya Specialist Centre (UMSC). She was instrumental in setting up the cardiac imaging services utilizing CT and MRI at UMMC and UMSC. Cardiac Imaging is her niche area of research and she has formed institutional, national, and international collaborations and research in this area. Yang Faridah had been entrusted with numerous roles and responsibilities especially in education including (and not limited to) duties as programme coordinator, head of department, a council member in a professional body (College of Radiology), SETARA member (under the Malaysian Qualifying Agency), member of the Malaysian Medical Council (2017- 2023), chair of the Medical Education Committee for the Malaysian Medical Council (2020-2023) and deputy dean at the Faculty of Medicine University Malaya (2015 - 2021). She is currently a senate member for Universiti Malaya, a senate representative to the Board of Directors of Universiti Malaya, a member of the Medical Education Committee for the Malaysian Medical Council and a member for the education and training committee of the Asian Oceanian Society of Radiology.
