I am currently a Senior Lecturer at the Department of Science and Technology Studies, Faculty of Science, University Malaya; currently teaching Policy and Management of Sustainable Development, Sociology of Science and Research Methodology. My current research interests revolves around: Responsible Research and Innovation: Embedding Reflexivity and Social Desirability for more sustainable outcomes in Research and Innovation; Applied Scientometrics for Decision Making: Tracking and foresighting scientific and technological trends in Sustainable Development for Research Policy and Strategy; and, Science Communication: Studying Stakeholder Engagement in Science and Technology Roadmapping for Sustainable Development. My research expertise focuses on comparative case studies as well as secondary data analysis of policies, research strategies and innovation systems at the sectoral levels for Agriculture (rice, palm oil, etc.), Herbal Medicine, and Renewable Energy (hydrogen, solar, etc.). I have been involved in consultation projects such as the National Bibliometric Report 2015, and STI Indicators Report 2016. I was also the Principal Investigator for the FRGS project on "Feasibility of Smart Agriculture in ASEAN: Investigating Social Dimensions and Policy Mechanisms to Enhance Technology Adoption and Upgrading in the Rice Sector." My previous lecturing experience was in UOW Malaysia KDU University College where I was involved in leading Postgraduate by Research programmes and Research Management. Prior to my PhD, I was in Corporate Communications and Journalism specifically in the Pharma/Biotech sector, as well as in providing Analytics and Media Monitoring services at Meltwater News.
show more »Amy Then is a senior lecturer at the Institute of Biological Sciences, University of Malaya. She obtained her Ph.D. in Fisheries Science from the Virginia Institute of Marine Science, USA in 2014. Amy’s research interests are highly diverse and focused on animal- environment-human interactions to inform meaningful, data-driven conservation and management efforts in the coastal and marine realms. Currently, she is working on broad topics of mangrove ecology, restoration and ecosystem services assessment, shark and ray fishery assessment, marine megafauna bycatch and linkages between marine protected area and the well-being of both ecosystems and humans. She co-developed a number of successfully funded local and international proposals that were highly interdisciplinary in the last six years with funding from the Global Challenges Research Fund, Newton Fund, and British Council. To successfully deliver these projects, she had been actively using multiple science and social science approaches and with relevant stakeholder engagements at varying levels. In addition to scientific contributions in high-impact journals that included Scientific Reports, Frontiers in Ecology and Evolution, and Ecosystems, she also has diverse experiences in organizing international meetings, including the Third International Symposium on Mangroves as Fish Habitat (MAFH3).
show more »Professor Dr Vivek Ajit Singh is a Professor of Orthopaedics and head of the Orthopedic Oncology unit in Faculty of Medicine, University Malaya. He obtained his medical degree from University Malaya in 1984. He worked in Hospital Muar and Mersing before enrolling in University Malaya for Master’s in Orthopaedic Surgery. He completed his master’s degree in 2001 and was awarded with the Subramaniam Gold Medal for the best clinical master’s student. Subsequently, in 2002 he was awarded with Fellowship from The Royal College of Surgeons Edinburgh. Then, he worked in Penang General Hospital as an Orthopaedic surgeon and was awarded with a fellowship scholarship by the Ministry of Health in 2003 to pursue Fellowship Orthopaedic Oncology in Birmingham, UK (The Royal Orthopaedic Hospital). He completed his fellowship in 2004, after which he continued his service in Penang General Hospital. He subsequently joined University Malaya in 2006 and is working there till now. He teaches postgraduate and undergraduate students from the Faculty of Medicine. Prof Vivek has published more than 50 research papers in various medical journals and 2 text-books related to his field of expertise and basic science. He is currently an active member of several international and national professional bodies such as International Society of Limb Salvage (ISOLS), Asia Pacific Musculoskeletal Tumor Society (APMSTS), East Asia Musculoskeletal Oncology Group (EAMOG), and many more. Besides the clinical field, he is also active in the research field and has won prestigious awards such as The Dr Robert Bauze Trauma Award, P. Balasubramaniam Award, and Tumour Award. Other than his academic accomplishments, he also provides testimonies as an expert witness for various medicolegal cases of insurance claim disputes. As part of his social responsibility and contribution to the society, he also gives healthcare, or more specifically orthopaedic related talks to public and media.
