Dr. Melasutra is a Registered Town Planner under the Town Planner Act (Act 538) and also a member of the Malaysian Association of Social Impact Assessment. She has 30 years of experience at the University Malaya as a lecturer at the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences and currently in the Faculty of Built Environment. Her teaching subjects are related to urban land use planning, social planning, planning theory, and recreational planning. She has carried out collaborative research with the Nippon Foundation under the purview of Asean University Network- Disability and Public Policy on research related to the inclusivity learning environment. The inclusive learning environment study was further extended for the Ministry of Higher Education,Malaysia. She has published in books, book chapters, and journals and involved in consultation works related to urban planning issues, sustainable development planning, and social impact assessment studies. She has supervised a number of Ph.D. students in the field of sustainable urban governance and planning. Professional Recognition: While serving UM, she was also involved in several state and local agencies planning related matters such as Social Impact Assessment study, Urban Redevelopment, Development Plan studies. She has been appointed as Council Member for Petaling Jaya City Council in 2008-2012 and be part of the One Stop Center committee for planning approval matters. She has been appointed as Local Agenda 21 committee member and Panel Evaluation member for Anugerah Perdana Komuniti Petaling Jaya. She also has been appointed as the Public Hearing Panel Committee for City Hall of Kuala Lumpur for the Structure and Local Plan - Review and Alteration process. Currently, she is a Panel Review Member of Melaka Social Impact Study- appointed by PlanMalaysia Melaka. In recognition of her involvement and contribution in sustainable planning-related matters at the local level i.e City Council of Petaling Jaya- she has been awarded as one of the recipients of 10 Thematic Champion of Petaling Jaya Sustainable, Smart and Resilient 2030 awards for Learning City (2022).
show more »Dr. Mohd Salim Mohamed serves as a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Science and Technology Studies within the Faculty of Science at the University of Malaya. He earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Biomedical Science in 2006, followed by a Master of Science in 2009 and a Doctor of Philosophy in 2014. His research expertise lies in the domain of Bioethics, specifically focusing on biomedical ethics and policy. Dr. Mohamed's scholarly work encompasses various areas, including ethical decision-making in medicine, gender-related ethical issues, ethics in sustainability, research ethics, and the promotion of ethics education. He is committed to disseminating his research findings, and actively presenting at international conferences across multiple countries, including Japan, South Korea, Singapore, and Indonesia. His contributions to the academic community are further evidenced by his publications in prestigious international ethics journals, such as Science and Engineering Ethics, Ethics and Behavior, Religious Ethics, Accountability in Research: Policies and Quality Assurance, Journal of Empirical Research on Human Research Ethics, Biotechnology Law Report, and Revista Romana de Bioetica. As an educator, Dr. Mohamed teaches a variety of ethics courses at both the undergraduate and postgraduate levels. Among the courses he offers are Ethics and Safety, Bioethics and Society, Ethics in Science and Technology, and Ethics of Knowledge and Profession. His involvement in the field of bioethics is further underscored by his membership in prominent organizations, including the International Association of Bioethics (IAB) and the Asian Bioethics Association (ABA), reflecting his commitment to advancing the field of bioethics on a global scale.
show more »Dr. Azanna Ahmad Kamar is an Associate Professor and Consultant Neonatologist at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Malaya (UM), Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. A UM MBBS graduate herself, she received further training in paediatrics and neonatology at the Paediatric Institute of Hospital Kuala Lumpur and in Dublin, Eire. She is the present Head of the Department of Paediatrics. Her passion for paediatric bioethics led her to complete her certification in Paediatric Bioethics from Children’s Mercy Hospital, University of Missouri, Kansas City, USA in 2016. Besides teaching paediatrics and neonatology, she also teaches the Special Population course of the Masters of Health in Research Ethics (MOHRE) programme, with interests in neonatal end-of-life issues, the impact of medical innovations, technology dependence, shared decisions, and sociocultural influences in decision-making. She is also a keen advocate of quality improvement initiatives, research in infection control, innovative neonatal engineering, neonatal ventilation, neonatal transport, resource allocation, and infant nutrition. She champions prematurity awareness by promoting awareness of complications related to preterm births. She is a past President of the Perinatal Society of Malaysia (Council 2016/2017); a member of the Malaysian Bioethics Community (MBC) and Clinical Ethics Malaysia (CEM); team member of the South East Asia Early Nutrition Academy (ENEA-SEA) e-learning infant nutrition platform under EU-Erasmus e-learning collaboration; the head of the Research and Publications committee of the Federation of Asia-Oceania Perinatal Societies (FAOPS); steering committee member of the Malaysian National Neonatal Registry (MNNR); scientific chairperson of the FAOPS 2022 congress; a champion of the Malaysian Prematurity Awareness Programme; a past Organising/ Scientific Chair of the Kuala Lumpur International Neonatology Conference (KLINC) and is a member of the Lancet Child Health Commission on the Future of Neonatology advising group.
