Dr. Alwani Ghazali is attached to the Department of Aqidah and Islamic Thought at the Academy of Islamic Studies, University of Malaya. Her teaching, publication, research and supervision are focused on the issues related to Comparative Religion such as interreligious dialogue, diversity and peaceful co-existence. Previously, she served the International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM) between 2002-2015 before joining Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia (USIM) in 2016. She graduated for PhD from the University of Melbourne, Australia where she was a recipient of two competitive university awards, Melbourne International Research Scholarship (MIRS) and Melbourne International Fee Remission Scholarship (MIFRS) (2009-2012). Her PhD thesis entitled Dialogic Thinking in the Sirah: Its Significance and Application in Contemporary Muslim Discourse was suggested by the external examiner to be nominated as a winner of Chancellor’s Prize for Excellence in the PhD Thesis.  In her Bachelor Degree at IIUM, she majored in Usuluddin and Comparative Religion whereas her minor was Psychology. She then pursued Masters Degree in similar institution with the same specialization and graduated with a dissertation on a philosophical topic related to hermeneutics.  Apart from dialogue and interfaith relationship issues, Dr. Alwani is also interested in areas of Islamic Thought in issues such as contemporary framework for research in Islamic Studies and historical hermeneutics. Being an advocate of dialogue and peaceful co-existence, she is a research fellow at Islamic and Strategic Studies Institute (ISSI).

Dr. Muhammad Fazril Razif became a member of the Department of Molecular Medicine, Faculty of Medicine in 2014. He completed his undergraduate education at Murdoch University (Perth, Australia) in 2007 with a double degree in BSc (Biomedical Science/Molecular Biology) and BSc (Forensic Biology and Toxicology; Minor in Criminology). In 2009, he joined the Harry Perkins Institute of Medical Research to pursue his PhD research. After four years, he received his PhD from the School of Medicine and Pharmacology (University of Western Australia, Australia), with his project entitled “RNA-binding Proteins: Unraveling the code”. During his candidature, Dr. Fazril was shortlisted as a state-finalist for the AusBiotech-GSK Student Excellence Awards (2011) for his work. Dr. Fazril has worked on numerous research projects, including the expression and validation of synthetic proteins, genomics and transcriptomics studies on acute lymphoblastic leukaemia, diabetes and schizophrenia. In 2017, he joined the Medicinal Mushroom Research Group (MMRG) and has great interest in studying the genome, transcriptome and proteome of medicinal mushrooms. His current research also focuses on the expression of novel proteins found in medicinal mushrooms and their bioactivities via pre-clinical and clinical studies. Academically, he has spearheaded the development of three new courses in the Department. These are GIM2001 Body and Your Health; MIX3001 Techniques in Molecular Medicine and GDM0006 Global Trends in Food and Health. He is also an active Faculty member, with positions as the Deputy Head (Research & Publication) in the Visibility, Information and Communication (VICFOM) Unit, member of the Internal Audit team under the Quality Management System (QMS) Committee, and member of the Occupational Safety and Health Committee (OSHE).  As a Principal Investigator, he has supervised 4 PhD and 2 MSc students, and is currently supervising 3 PhD and 1 MSc candidates . He has also published 3 Book chapters and 20 research articles, and have received a total of 8 research grants (3 as Principal Investigator). In 2017, he was awarded with “The Highest Number of Publications in the Department” award. In 2021, he was nominated by the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Research & Innovation) to represent Universiti Malaya at the National Young Scientist Award 2021, Academy of Sciences Malaysia. At present, he is an Editorial Board member of two journals and is an Executive Committee member of the Malaysian Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (MSBMB).

    Dr Penny Lott Pooi Wah is a consultant ophthalmologist and medical lecturer in the Department of Ophthalmology, University of Malaya. She completed her medical degree (MBBS) in 2008 and Master of Ophthalmology in 2016, both in University of Malaya. She also won the award as the best master student in her national post graduate ophthalmology examination in Malaysia. In addition, she also completed the external international ophthalmology examination, FRCOphth (UK) and was concurrently admitted as a Fellow of the Royal College of Ophthalmologist in United Kingdom in 2016.     Dr Penny Lott subsequently pursued her 3 years medical retina and uveitis fellowship training in University of Malaya, Singapore National Eye Center and St James Leeds Teaching Hospital in United Kingdom. Besides that, she also completed a fellowship attachment in the prestigious Moorfield’s Eye Hospital, London. Her fellowship training at various renowned centers had ensured her subspecialty clinical knowledge gained is at a high level.     Dr Penny Lott has a strong interest in the field of medical retina, ocular inflammatory diseases and latest multimodal imaging innovation. She has published papers in several peer reviewed journals and contributed book chapters for ophthalmology trainees. She also had international collaborative research and publication with the Singapore National Eye Centre and St James Leeds Teaching Hospital in United Kingdom. She is also a reviewer for  the International Journal of Ophthalmology. She is also frequently invited for medical talks related to her subspecialty in local national conferences as well as ASEAN ophthalmology conference.             Prior to this, she served in Sabah for 8 years since her commencement of internship back in 2008 where she was actively involved in eye screening programs in remote areas and participated in cataract camps in Sabah. After joining University of Malaya as a lecturer, she was actively involved in organizing phacoemulsification workshops for master students and she is was appointed as coordinator of phacoemulsification workshops for Master students by Malaysian Universities Conjoint Committee of Ophthalmology.
