PROF. DR. FIRDAUS BIN HARIRI

Dr. Firdaus Hariri is a Professor and senior consultant in oral maxillofacial surgery at University of Malaya Medical Centre (UMMC), Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Clinical Sciences, Faculty of Dentistry Universiti Malaya and University of Malaya Specialist Centre. He obtained both his dental and medical degrees from Universiti Malaya (UM) and completed his oral and maxillofacial surgery training with distinction at Queen Mary Hospital and Prince Philip Dental Hospital, The University of Hong Kong (HKU). He later had his craniofacial attachments at various established craniofacial centres abroad and also obtained his Master of Science in Molecular Medicine from International Medical University (IMU). In addition to routine maxillofacial surgical practices such as orthognathic surgery, trauma and oral implantology, his subspecialty and research interests are focused on pediatric craniofacial and reconstructive surgery, tissue engineering in particular distraction osteogenesis technique, bone regeneration for oral rehabilitation and the field of neurotrauma. He has more than 60 academic publications and is actively involved in national and international scientific conferences, consultations and organizations. He is one of the founding members and currently the lead coordinator for the multidisciplinary craniofacial clinic in UMMC, the team leader for Oro-Craniomaxillofacial Research and Surgical (OCReS) group at the Faculty of Dentistry UM, subspecialty coordinator for the Fellowship in Advanced Craniomaxillofacial Surgery UM, and serves as the chairman of National Dental Specialty Education Committee (DentSEdC) for oral and maxillofacial surgery. He is also the guest editor for BMC Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery as well as in the editorial board of Malaysian Journal of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons. He is passionate in music, social enterprise and humanitarian activities. Among the significant contributions in these areas are the success of Voices of Hope Charity Concert, collaboration with University of Malaya Industry and Community Engagement (ICE) office for the social enterprise initiative among single parents in marginalized community and successfully initiating the nation-wide aerosol box fabrication and distribution during COVID-19 pandemic in 2020.

ASSOCIATE PROF. DR. NOR AZLIDA BINTI MOHD NOR

Dr Azlida obtained her Bachelor of Dental Surgery from the University of Malaya (UM) in 2008. After working with the Ministry of Health for over two years, she became a trainee lecturer at the University of Malaya (UM) in 2010. She then earned a Master's in Dental Public Health (DPH) from Queen Mary, University of London, along with a Diploma in Dental Public Health from the Royal College of Surgeons (England) in 2011. She enrolled for a PhD programme at Cardiff University in 2014 and completed it in 2017. Her PhD project won the prestigious Roger Anderson Prize from The British Association for the Study of Community Dentistry. Dr Azlida is currently an Associate Professor and a registered dental public health specialist in Malaysia. She teaches and supervises students in both undergraduate and postgraduate programmes. In the early years of her academic career, she held the position of undergraduate coordinator. From 2020 onward, she assumed the role of Postgraduate Coordinator (Master of Community Oral Health) and is currently spearheading the Doctor of Dental Public Health (DrDPH) programme at the Faculty of Dentistry, UM. Continuing to enhance her credentials, she obtained a Postgraduate Diploma in Medical Education (with distinction) from the University of South Wales, UK, and was awarded a Fellowship in Dental Education from the Faculty of Dental Trainers, the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh in 2023. She possesses a commendable record of publications in ISI/Scopus-indexed journals and has actively participated as a reviewer for numerous publications. Her accomplishments include receiving awards for research, education, and innovation on both national and international platforms. Her research pursuits range from preventive dentistry and oral epidemiology to dental education. In recent years, she has taken a proactive approach by publishing in mass media to share insights about dentistry and promote oral disease prevention with the general public. She is also actively engaged with the Malaysian Ministry of Health (MOH) and has assumed roles as a committee member for the National Oral Health Plan (2021-2030), an expert involved in reviewing the National Fluoride Guideline, and a consultant assessing oral health promotion activities. Additionally, she served as a council member for the Malaysian Association of Dental Public Health Specialists (MADPHS) for the 2022-2024 term.

ASSOCIATE PROF. DR. TAN AI HUEY

Dr. Tan Ai Huey is an Associate Professor at the Faculty of Medicine, Universiti Malaya (UM) and Consultant Neurologist and Physician at the Universiti Malaya Medical Centre. As a clinician-scientist, she dedicates her career to excellence in patient care, and medical research and education, particularly in the neurological subspecialty area of Parkinson's disease (PD) and Movement Disorders. After completing her specialty training in Internal Medicine and subspecialty training in Neurology in 2015, Dr. Tan obtained a PhD degree (with thesis distinction), in which she explored the role of the gut microbiome and novel therapeutic approaches, such as probiotics, in PD. Leading an inter-disciplinary research team at UM, her research has since expanded to genetic and biomarker discoveries in PD and rare movement disorders (e.g., dystonia and ataxia), with the aim to uncover factors that are unique and relevant to the Asian population. Other key research areas include uncovering the impact of geriatric conditions, comorbidities, and non-motor features, as well as understanding patient/caregiver perspectives, in PD. Through collaborations with local and international partners, Dr. Tan and her team work tirelessly to advance personalized, holistic, and patient-centered care in PD and related disorders. Dr. Tan has published extensively in leading medical journals, including first-author publications in Nature Reviews Neurology, Annals of Neurology, Neurology, and Movement Disorders, and co-authorship publications in Lancet Neurology, Nature Genetics, and JAMA Neurology. Her research has received support from renowned funding organizations including the Michael J. Fox Foundation, Aligning Science Across Parkinson's (ASAP) via the Global Parkinson’s Genetic Program (GP2), and the Toray Science Foundation. She currently serves as an Associate Editor for Parkinsonism & Related Disorders, a reputable journal in the field. Dr. Tan was elected as President of the Malaysian Society of Neurosciences (MSN) from 2018 to 2022, the professional body that represents Malaysian neurologists and neuroscientists. She currently serves as the Chair of the MSN Movement Disorder Council, within which she co-authored the National Consensus Treatment Guidelines for PD. She has played key roles in developing the national neurology subspecialty training curriculum. Internationally, she was Treasurer of the ASEAN Neurological Association and has been appointed to Chair several committees of the International Parkinson & Movement Disorder Society (MDS, the world body representing clinicians and scientists in the PD/Movement Disorder field), including the MDS Communications Oversight Committee and the MDS Web-based Learning Subcommittee. She is also the Secretary-Elect of the MDS Asian-Oceanian Section Executive Committee and a member of the MDS Evidence-Based Medicine Steering Committee. Grateful for the mentors in her career, she is highly passionate about teaching and believes in developing the next-generation talent in medicine and science. She was twice voted Best Clinical Lecturer Award at the UM Faculty of Medicine. More recently, she won the University's Excellent Lecturer Award and the Yound Educator Award from the College of Physicians, Malaysia. Frequently invited as an expert faculty member at various national and international conferences and workshops, Dr. Tan is dedicated to enhancing education and training in PD and movement disorders, especially in underserved regions around the globe, where these efforts can have the most significant impact.
