Dr. Junaid Olawale Quazim is a senior lecturer at the Department of Parasitology, Faculty of Medicine, Universiti Malaya, Kuala Lumpur. He obtained his PhD in Medical Parasitology from the Universiti Malaya (UM) in 2018. Prior to this, he did his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Nigeria before he joined academics, at Federal University Kashere, Gombe State, Nigeria, as a Lecturer in 2012. He got scholarship from the Nigerian Government for his PhD programme in 2014. Hence, he went back to Nigeria after his PhD to continue his job as a Lecturer until he joined the Department of Parasitology, Faculty of Medicine, Universiti Malaya in May, 2023 as a senior lecturer. Dr. Junaid’s work centers on mosquito-borne parasitic diseases (malaria and filariasis), zoonotic filariasis, interactions between the parasites, hosts and vectors, and immunology. Presently, he has an international collaboration with Humboldt Research Hub-Center for Emerging & Re-emerging Infectious Diseases (HRH-CERID) at Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), Ogbomoso Oyo State, Nigeria, working on ‘Molecular Surveillance for HRP2/3 Gene Deletion in Nigeria’. He has published over 17 articles in various categories of journals.

He has over two decades of work experience in the industry and academia and also holds a PMP® (Project Management Professional) certification from PMI, USA. Dr. Sameer has been consistently ranked in the World's Top 2% Scientists list (released by Stanford University and Elsevier) from 2021 to 2025 (present) - Field: Social Sciences. At Asia-Europe Institute (AEI) Dr. Sameer has taught courses at the Masters level on Information Technology K-Economy, Social and economic dimensions of Digital Economy, History of Southeast Asia and Research Methods . He has been the Program Co-ordinator for International Masters in Information Management (2014 - 2016) and is currently the Programme Co-ordinator for International Masters in ASEAN Studies program (2016 -). He is the founding Managing Editor of AEI Insights (an official AEI peer reviewed journal) since 2014. During 2015 he was the visiting scientist at Ilmenau University of Technology, Germany. His current research and teaching interests are in the field of Social Networks, Data Analytics, Educational Technologies, Social informatics, Digital economy in Asia-Europe, and History of Southeast Asia. Dr. Sameer has successfully completed grant-based research projects (High Impact Research and UM Frontier Science Research) as Principal Investigator and a bilateral interational project (ETH- Switzerland funded). He has organised international workshops and events and has chaired panels in international foras. He is the life member of Computer Society of India and member of several national and international research centers and associations. He has several papers published in ISI-Web of Science indexed journals (publishers include Springer, Emerald, Wiley, McMillan Palgrave, Elsevier and others). He has regularly reviewed for top ISI journals including JMIR, PlosOne, JASIST, Scienometrics, and several others and supervises candidates at both Masters and PhD levels.
show more »Dr. Nurhafiza Binti Zainal is a Senior Lecturer at the Department of Medical Microbiology, Faculty of Medicine, Universiti Malaya. She holds a Dual PhD in Medical Microbiology from Universiti Malaya and Medicine from National Cheng Kung University, Taiwan. Additionally, she earned an MRes in Biotechnology from Imperial College London, United Kingdom, and a bachelor’s degree in Biotechnology from Universiti Malaya. Her areas of expertise include immunology and virology. Dr. Nurhafiza’s research explores the intricate relationship between viruses and the host immune response, particularly the role of host protein expression and genetic factors in shaping disease outcomes. Her work also investigates mechanisms such as cross-reactive immunity and antibody-dependent enhancement to improve vaccine development and antiviral strategies. She has served as both Principal Investigator and Co-Researcher on numerous national-level research grants, including projects under the Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE), MOSTI, and Universiti Malaya internal funding schemes. Dr. Nurhafiza is also the recipient of the prestigious IEIF International Education Innovation Fund – ASEAN Research Collaboration Project, hosted by The University of Adelaide. Her awarded project focuses on the development and evaluation of inactivated vaccines for viral diseases, with potential applications in animal health. In addition to her scientific research, Dr. Nurhafiza is involved in interdisciplinary initiatives such as One Health programs and sustainability-focused projects related to menstrual health and environmental responsibility
