Graduate of University College Dublin (National University Ireland) in 2005, she obtained Intercollegiate MRCS 2008 and completed Irish Basic Surgical Training (CCBST) in Royal College of Surgeons Ireland 2009. Upon returning to Malaysia, she completed Master of Surgery in University of Malaya 2013, whilst serving as trainee lecturer to University Malaya Medical Programme. Upon appointment as specialist 2014, she continues as Consultant General and Colorectal Surgeon and is an examiner for both undergraduate medical programme and Postgraduate Master of Surgery, National Conjoint Board Exams. She is also the Surgical Co-ordinator and Examiner for Dental Faculty, Universiti Malaya. She sub-specialised in Colorectal Surgery, training in UM, UKM and Royal Prince Alfred Hospital, Sydney and is currently the Head of Colorectal Surgery Unit, Department of Surgery UM. She is also Committee Member and National Trainer for National Colorectal Surgery Fellowship Programme. She is actively involved in national and international surgical training, where she serves as Co-Director of CCrISP Course with College of Surgeons Malaysia and Royal College of Sugeons England and is a NOTSS Course Instructor with Royal College Of Surgeons Edinburgh. She is the local UM liason for co-ordination of RCS England MRCS examinations. She has a keen interest in advanced colorectal cancer surgery including Pelvic Exenteration, Cytoreductive Surgery and HIPEC as well as PIPAC and is Malaysian representative in PelvEx Collaborative. She has helped set up and continue the multidisciplinary, multicentre teamwork for extended resections in advanced GI malignancy in Universiti Malaya and in the country.
show more »Dr. Woo is an academic and researcher who currently serves as an associate professor in the Department of Physics at Universiti Malaya. He received his B.Sc. (First Class Honours), M.Sc. and Ph.D in Advanced Materials from Universiti Malaya (UM). Prior to joining UM in 2014, Dr. Woo gained valuable experience in industry, teaching, and research through his work in the private sector and two private universities in Malaysia. His primary research interests focus on the design and development of functional materials, which includes batteries (LIBs, SIBs), supercapacitors (EDLC, hybrid supercapacitors, Sodium-ion capacitors), polymer electrolytes, solar cells (DSSCs, QDSSCs), plasma technology and radiation. Dr. Woo's scholarship record is impressive, with over 2500 citations and an h-index of 23 (Google Scholar). He has published over 70 research papers such as Advanced Functional Materials, ACS Nano, Chemical Engineering Journal, Journal of Energy Chemistry and ACS Materials Letters, and has secured 22 research funds from University of Malaya (RU grant), Malaysian government funding agencies (FRGS, PRGS), international fund from Asian Office of Aerospace Research & Development (AOARD), Japan and Southeast Asia and Taiwan Universities (SATU) JRS, as PI and Co-PI. Moreover, he has successfully supervised the completion of 6 Ph.D. and 4 Master's Degree research candidates. Owing to his expertise in the field, he has served as a Visiting Professor to Harbin Engineering University, Universitas Sebelas Maret and Sharda University. Dr. Woo is the winner of many awards such as best flash-talk presenter of ICFMD2015, diamond award of I-Idea 2016, gold medal of Iiidjohor 2017, gold medal of Indes 2017, gold medal of Iriise 2018, gold medal of ITEX2023 and silver medal of MTE2024. In addition to his research work, Dr. Woo is also an active member of the academic community. He has delivered more than 35 keynote/invited/oral talks at international conferences, serving as reviewer for over 40 international journals, treasurer of Institut of Physics, Malaysia (2017-present), External Assessor (EA) for Physics Academic Program at private university. and has been involved in organizing international conferences such as ICFMD 2013, 2015, 2017, 2022, 2024; Solar Asia 2013; APPC 2019, ICFPAM 2019 & AAPPS-DPP2024.
show more »Professor Dr. April Roslani is a Professor of Colorectal Surgery, and was Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, Universiti Malaya from 2020 - 2024. She graduated from the University of Wales College of Medicine in 1995, and was awarded Universiti Malaya’s Master of Surgery in 2003. In 2007, she established University Malaya Medical Centre’s (UMMC) Colorectal Surgery Unit, which is now the largest in the country, and a key stakeholder in colorectal training and services nationally and regionally. Her areas of expertise include surgery for colorectal cancer, proctology, surgical training and professionalism. She established the first Malaysian Cytoreductive Surgery (CRS) and Hyperthermic Intra-Peritoneal Chemotherapy (HIPEC) service in UMMC, which is delivered by a multi-disciplinary team. Prof. April is an influential driver of postgraduate medical training nationally, regionally and internationally. She has chaired the Conjoint Committee for Postgraduate Medical Degrees, which oversees, aligns and coordinates medical specialist training programmes across all higher education providers in Malaysia. Recognizing the need to standardize training across institutions in order to meet the country’s need for healthcare specialists, she led the development of a new national training curriculum for general surgery under the National Postgraduate Curriculum Project. As chair of the Train-the-Trainers Steering Committee, she led the development of a blended curriculum for train-the-trainers modules, which has been rolled out across all specialties, nationally. She has advocated against toxic workplace environments, generating the evidence base and incorporating training modules in both trainee and trainer curricula. Her leadership credentials are undisputed. Until recently, she was Regional Ambassador for the Association of Academic Health Centers International, and hosted the ASEAN Medical Deans Summit in 2023. She is a Councillor in the International Surgical Society, which champions outreach educational activities to improve access to surgical services globally, and was part of the team that successfully ran the International Surgical Week 2024 in Malaysia for the first time. She was Chair of the Steering Committee for the National Postgraduate Medical Curriculum Project. From a regulatory perspective, she leads the Malaysian Medical Council’s Specialty Subcommittee (Education) for General Surgery, which set the standards for recognition of training programmes, and she regularly evaluates programmes for accreditation by the Malaysian Qualifications Agency. She is the immediate Past-President for the Malaysian Society of Colorectal Surgeons, the College of Surgeons, Academy of Medicine of Malaysia and the Asia Pacific Federation of Coloproctology. Through these and other related roles, she works towards advancing surgical standards, and fairness in the workplace. Her work has been recognized by the international surgical fraternity, through numerous Honorary Fellowship awards, including most recently from the Royal College of Surgeons of England, and the American Surgical Association.
