Professor Dr. Loh Sau Cheong received her Bachelor degree in Special Education (learning disabilities); and both Masters and Ph.D in Educational Psychology. Currently, she is appointed as the Director for ASEAN University Network-Disability and Public Policy Network (AUN-DPPnet) and a Full Professor from the Department of Educational Psychology and Counseling, Faculty of Education, Universiti Malaya and was the Head of Department for the same department from 1 August 2017 - 31 August 2021. She was an Adjunct Professor for Asia e University (AeU) from 27 November 2020 - 26 November 2022, Visiting Professor for Universitas Negeri Malang from 1 February to 31 May 2023 as well as Adjunct Professor for Universitas Negeri Malang from 2024 - 2027. Prof. Loh’s research interests include teacher self-efficacy, student self-concept, attribution retraining, attention development, motivation in learning, individualized education plan, assistive technology, and transitional plan for individuals with special needs. She had engaged in 30 researches and had filed 3 patents, 21 copyrights, and 1 trademark. Much of Prof. Loh's researches draw on, and is inspired by, the principle of Education For All and quality inclusive education for individuals with special needs from pre-school education to post-secondary education. Prof. Loh had received the Darjah Kebesaran Sultan Ahmad Shah Pahang Yang Amat Di Mulia Peringkat Ketiga - Setia Ahmad Shah Pahang (SAP) award from His Royal Highness the Sultan of Pahang in 2017. In addition, she had received 7 international awards, 11 national awards and 18 university awards. Among them are: UM Excellence Award (Excellent Lecturer) 2016, UM Excellence Award (Teaching Category) 2013, SEAMEO-Jasper Research Award 2010, Fulbright Scholar Award 2010, Fulbright Occasional Lecture Fund Award 2010, Excellent Service Award (2005, 2008), Excellent Certificate Award (2004, 2007, 2012, 2014, 2018), Malaysia Top 20 Authors for 2009, 2011 & 2012 under the Malaysian Abstracting and Indexing System and she is also listed in the worldwide AcademicKeys Who's Who in Higher Education as well as listed in the Encyclopaedia of Successful People in Malaysia for 2023 Edition. Prof. Loh participated actively in research expos where she has received 6 Gold, 7 Silver and 9 Bronze medals. She had published 63 articles (19 ISI, 6 Scopus, 40 refereed journal), 19 articles in conference proceeding, 7 books, 8 chapters in book and had conducted 77 presentations either as keynote speaker, invited speaker, workshop presenter, poster presenter, and conference paper presenter at international and national conferences. Prof. Loh is the Deputy President and active Life Member for the National Association of Special Education, Malaysia since 2009, members of Fulbright Alumni Association of Malaysia, International Association of Special Education (IASE) and International Association of Applied Psychology (IAAP). Currently, she is a Panel Assessor for Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA) (2010 - present) for the disciplines of special education, education for children with disabilities and educational psychology, Article Reviewer for Interactive Learning Environments (ISI Journal), Editorial Consultant of Australiasian Journal of Special Education, Editorial Board of Journal of Special Needs Education, Article Reviewer for Pertanika Journal of Social Science and Humanities (Scopus Journal). She was Honorary Consultant and Special Education Expert for Combined Cleft Lip and/or Palate Clinic, Dentistry Faculty, University of Malaya (2006-2014). She has been appointed as External Examiner for PhD candidates from University of Sydney, University of Brunei Darussalam, Universiti Sains Malaysia, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia, Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris, Universiti Putra Malaysia and SEGi University. She is also Industry Expert Advisor for New Era University College, Tunku Abdul Rahman Management and Technology University, Quest International University, HELP University, as well as External Examiner for promotion to Professor and Associate Professor for few Malaysian universities. Her contribution to the community includes workshop deliveries, train of trainers for special educators and volunteers, jury for creativity competition, and conduct Holiday Camps for adolescents with special needs. She had supervised till completion 19 Ph.D students (Thesis), 42 Master’s students (Dissertation), 57 Master’s students (Project) and 5 Bachelor Degree students. Currently, she supervises 18 Ph.D (Thesis) students, 15 Master’s students with Dissertation, and 37 Master's students with Research Project. show more »Dr Prashant Naresh Samberkar is a qualified Pathologist from Mumbai University. He has more than 23 years experience in the field of Forensic Pathology and was employed in Mumbai and Fiji Islands previously. In his capacity as an Medical Lecturer and Head to Department of Forensic Pathology, University Malaya Medical Centre (UMMC), his daily routine includes conducting autopsies, examining crime scene evidence and witness testimony, collecting medical evidence from cadavers, analysing other evidence like ballistics or toxicology, analyzing blood (serology) and utilizing DNA technology. He works closely with the Malaysian law enforcement agency and is responsible to ascertain the manner's of death - natural, accidental, suicidal, homicidal or murder, to assist in investigation and defend findings in a courtroom. As a head of department he is trustworthy and entrusted with significant administrative responsibility to manage the department of forensic pathology. He effectively communicates with department co-workers, emergency department, medical records and the hospital administration to ensure proper mortuary and autopsy practices even in high stress environment. Under his direction the department of forensic pathology provides extended periods of services to the hospital and law enforcement agencies to serve the community better. The departments contibution to the law enforecement agency was appreciated and recognized by awarding a certificate and souvenir by the Petaling Jaya District Police Office. He has designed the mortuary and the department of forensic pathology for UMMC (twice) and once for Metropolis Hospital. Additionally, he is also attached to the private wing of University of Malaya - University Malaya Specialist Centre as a Medico-Legal Consultant to provide opinion on medical malpractice (negligence) cases, insurance matters and opine on criminal matters to lawyers and courts. As an academician he is profoundly occupied in lecturing and training undergraduate and post graduate medical student. He has played a pivotal role in designing the forensic curriculum for the undergraduate medical students in 2008 and again in 2013 for the Department of Forensic Pathology, Faculty of Medicine, University of Malaya. He organises seminars for in-house and other forensic centres pathology and forensic postgraduate students in Malaysia. Under his guidance and supervision local and internaltional undergraduate and master's students have completed their elective and masters postings and projects. His forensic knowledge is utilized to lecture nursing staff and is also involed in the pre-housemenship programme for the UMMC. He is appointed as a Chief Examiner to conduct the Master's of Pathology (Forensic) examinations held at department of forensic pathology, University of Malaya and also as an external examiner to other Malaysian Universities. As a respected clinician his contribution to Forensic Pathology is recognized in Malaysia and also by his previous employer in Fiji Islands and he was awarded the Excellent Service Certificate for two consecutive terms extending 3 years each. He is actively involved in Research for the master's forensic pathology curriculum projects. He has recently concluded a BKP Grant for cardiac associated deaths. Currently, he is a coresearcher for and FRGS Grant (in collaboration with Harvard University) and a BKP Grant with University of Malaya. He has conducted various non-funded research for the department of forensic pathology. He is on the Organ Transplant Committee at the UMMC and recently has joined as a member with the Malaysian Medical Association. He is also a life member with the Indian Medical Association. He has interest in Research, has publications in International Academic Journals and very recently has contributed photographs to the latest edition of Modi's Textbook of Medical Jurisprudence and Toxicology (recongnized in the Common Wealth Countries). He has attended and presented oral and poster papers at various local and international conferences, workshops and seminars. During this tenure spanning more than two decades he had the opportunity to execute more than 5000 autopsies, numerous crime scene examinations and court appearances as an expert witness. This has allowed him to acquire a better understanding of the legal systems around the globe and sharpen his skills in providing reliable, impartial and evidence based opinions on numerous criminal cases, medico-legal documents and issues related to Iatrogenic Hospital Deaths leading to litigations.
show more »Noran N Hairi is the Deputy Dean for Research at the Faculty of Medicine, Universiti Malaya, and Professor of Epidemiology and Public Health. Medically trained at Universiti Malaya (UM), she served in Malaysia’s Ministry of Health before earning both an MPH and an MPH (Epidemiology) with distinction from UM, and a PhD from the University of Sydney, Australia. Noran is best known for her work on the epidemiology of ageing, with a particular focus on sarcopenia, and frailty. She has made significant contributions to research on elder abuse, neglect, and financial mistreatment among older adults. She led the Prevent Elder Abuse and Neglect Initiative (PEACE), which adopted a holistic, interdisciplinary approach to address late-life abuse through professional training, public awareness campaigns, and policy advocacy. PEACE provided a platform for legislators and policymakers, leading to calls for better elder protection framework. The PEACE 1.0 study identified financial exploitation as the most common form of elder abuse, prompting the PEACE 2.0 project, a collaborative effort with Agensi Kaunseling dan Pengurusan Kredit (AKPK) under Bank Negara Malaysia. Currently, the PEACE 3.0 team is working with the World Health Organization (WHO) to evaluate elder abuse assessment tools. She has published extensively, supervised over 80 postgraduate students, and held key leadership roles including Dean (Health and Wellbeing Research Cluster), Chair (Research Cluster), and Head of Research Centres such as the Julius Centre University Malaya and the Centre for Epidemiology and Evidence-Based Practice. Dr. Noran has contributed significantly to research, policy development, and public engagement in Malaysia. As a Member of the National Senior Citizens Advisory and Consultative Council (MPPWEN) and a Fellow of the Faculty of Public Health, UK, she is deeply committed to advancing public health and championing critical ageing issues. Her work focuses on elder protection, combating age discrimination, and promoting social inclusion, reflecting her dedication to research excellence, education, and collaborative leadership to improve the lives of older adults.
