Prof. Ng Boon-Kwee is Professor of Science and Technology Studies at the Faculty of Science, Universiti Malaya. He obtained his PhD in Technological Innovation Management from Universiti Malaya in 2011 and has more than two decades of experience in higher education, research, and policy engagement. His work bridges the interfaces between science, technology, innovation, and society, with particular expertise in science, technology and innovation (STI) policy, industrial innovation, social innovation, and science diplomacy.

Drawing on perspectives from Science and Technology Studies (STS), Prof. Ng's research examines how science and innovation can be translated into societal, economic, and policy outcomes. His work has advanced understanding of industrial transformation, innovation ecosystems, technological capability development, and innovation for sustainable and inclusive development. More recently, he has extended his research into science diplomacy and evidence-informed policymaking, with a particular focus on strengthening the interfaces between science, policy, and international cooperation within the context of science system.

Prof. Ng has served as consultant and advisor to numerous international and national organisations, including the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), the International Development Research Centre (IDRC), the Economic Research Institute for ASEAN and East Asia (ERIA), the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI), the Ministry of Economy Malaysia, and the Academy of Sciences Malaysia (ASM). In 2019, he was seconded as an Experienced Researcher to Bocconi University (Italy) and the United Nations University–MERIT (The Netherlands) under the European Union's Horizon 2020 Marie Skłodowska-Curie Research and Innovation Staff Exchange Programme.

Beyond his research, he has made significant contributions to Malaysia's research and innovation ecosystem through academic leadership and national service. He currently serves as a Member of the MyCite Journal Evaluation Panel (2024–2027), contributing to the quality assessment and development of Malaysian scholarly journals. Between 2020 and 2025, he served as Head of the Department of Science and Technology Studies at Universiti Malaya, where he led strategic initiatives in postgraduate education, international collaboration, and academic programme development.

His contributions have been recognised through several prestigious awards, including the Universiti Malaya Excellence Award 2026 (Best Book, Social Sciences and Humanities) for his book Social Innovation in Action: Institutions, Policies and Lessons from Malaysia (Palgrave Macmillan), the Asian Universities Alliance (AUA) Scholars Award (2019–2020), the Grassroots Science Advice Promotion Award from INGSA-Asia (2023), and the Taiwan Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) Fellowship (2025). He currently serves as Associate Editor of Technological Forecasting and Social Change (TFSC) and as an Editorial Board Member of the Asian Journal of Technology Innovation (AJTI).
