Dr Nurshuhada Zainon holds the Bachelor of Quantity Surveying from UM, and was awarded the prestigious ‘Anugerah Pelajaran Diraja’ UM in 2005. She attained her Master of Science in Construction Economics and Management from University College London in the year 2009. She read her Doctoral degree in Construction IT Management from UM and is now persuading her research interest in digital construction in delivering value to environmental, economic and social. She worked with the industry for almost 3 years prior joining UM, as a Junior Analyst and then as an IT Project Manager at a subsidiary of Construction Industry Development Board (CIDB) of Malaysia.
Ever since joining UM as a Senior Lecturer in 2013, Dr Nurshuhada received the certificate of Excellent Service by UM in the year 2015 and 2016. She has produced 2 PhDs and 14 Master graduates and currently supervising 3 PhDs and 4 Masters. She currently holds 25 publications including books, several ISI-ranked articles, Scopus-indexed articles, chapters in book, as well as, in refereed international and national journals. She has achieved sum of Citations=136 with h-index=7 in Google Scholar. She also has contributed articles in newsletters and bulletins and presented papers in conferences locally and internationally. Her article on ‘Analysis of Practices for Private Finance Initiative (PFI) Procurement Process: Malaysia vs United Kingdom’ won the Royal Institute of Surveyors Malaysia (RISM) 50th Anniversary Publication Best Paper Award (QS Division) 2016. In addition, she also won Gold, Silver and Bronze medals for her innovation through research and development in multiple national competitions. Her community engagement project named #MsiaEndsDengue, was awarded UM Best Community Engagement Project by UMCares in 2015. Four of her innovations through multiple projects had also received Intellectual Properties Copyrights.
In terms of research grant, Dr Nurshuhada has received total of RM 1,150, 616 as principal investigator and co-researcher. She is one of the advisors for UMCares since 2018 and was appointed as the coordinator for the national level DIY Made Simple Competition since 2017. This project is currently one of the UM flagship community-based project. She is also an editor for the Journal of Design and Built Environment, reviewer for multiple international journals and conference proceedings and has spearheaded several MOUs between UM and industry key players such as CIDB and Jabatan Kerja Raya (JKR) Malaysia, as well as international university partner such as Manchester Metropolitan University. She is also actively involved with Board of Quantity Surveyors of Malaysia (BQSM) and Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors Malaysia (RISM) as organizing committee for myriad of conferences. In addition, Dr Nurshuhada contributed her expertise through consultation with the industry partners and be invited to industry-based workshops for BIM related development in Malaysia.
Dr Nurshuhada is a Registered Provisional Quantity Surveyor of BQSM, and a Student Member of Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyor (RICS) UK. She is always a passionate academician in producing the best out of her students and for the progress of UM, the Faculty of Built Environment, particularly the Department of Quantity Surveying.
