Ir. Dr. Wong Yew Hoong received his B. Eng. (Hons.) in Materials Engineering in 2009 and Ph.D. in Electronic Materials in 2012 from the School of Materials and Mineral Resources Engineering, Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM), Malaysia. During the period of June 2012 - February 2013, he was a Research Fellow with the School of Materials Science and Engineering of Nanyang Technological University (NTU) in Singapore. He joined the Department of Mechanical Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, Univesity of Malaya (UM), Malaysia as a Senior Lecturer in March 2013 and now serving as an Associate Professor since November 2019. He is currently appointed as Programme Coordinator in the department since January 2016. Dr. Wong is actively engaging himself in research activities. His main research area is on semiconducting or electronic thin-film materials (including oxides, nitrides, and organic polymers), electronic device fabrication, electronic packaging, and gas sensing materials. To date, he has published more than 65 research papers in high impact factor ISI-indexed journals and 2 invited book chapters. Owing to his expertise in the field, he was being invited as Invited Speaker in Nanomaterials Characterization and Applications Seminar 2013 in UM Malaysia, ISI Publication Workshop 2015 twice in Universiti Tenaga Nasional (UNITEN) Malaysia, International Conference on Advances in Functional Materials (AFM) 2015 in New York, USA and 2016 in Jeju, South Korea, and Asia Pacific Ceramic Corporation Summit (APCCS) 2016 in Singapore. Besides, Dr. Wong is also being invited to serve as a reviewer for several refereed journals. To date, he has reviewed more than 60 manuscripts. He is also being invited as an examiner for theses, both internal and external. To run his research activities, he has secured more than RM 2 million (~ USD 500k) research grants from the university, government, and industry. On professional qualifications, he is a Professional Engineer (PEng) in Material Engineering discipline registered with Board of Engineers, Malaysia (BEM) and a Chartered Engineer (CEng) registered with Engineering Council UK. Outside University, Dr. Wong is also very active in professional and community activities. He was elected as Secretary cum Treasurer of Electronic Engineering Technical Division (eETD) under the Institution of Engineers Malaysia (IEM) in 2016/2017 and is serving as its Committee Member since 2013 to date. In addition, he has been elected as Executive Committee Member in 2016 and Secretary from 2017 to 2019 for the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE) - Electronics Packaging Society (EPS) [Formerly known as Components, Packaging, and Manufacturing Technology (CPMT)] Malaysia Chapter. He is the recipient of UM Excellence Service Award (2017) and UM Excellence Service Certificate (2019). |
