Professor Dr. Norliza Binti Ibrahim is a Professor of Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology at Universiti Malaya (UM), holding a DDS from Universiti Gadjah Mada, an MSc from the University of Manchester, and a PhD from VU University Amsterdam. Ranked No. 9 globally among researchers in Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology, she is an internationally recognized authority in her field. Beginning her career as a Dental Officer at Hospital Tengku Ampuan Rahimah, Klang (2000–2003), she joined UM in 2003 as a lecturer and went on to lead its Unit of Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology. She plays a key role in national healthcare governance as Head of the Dental Specialties Education Committee and Chairman of the Dental Specialty Sub-Committee for Oral and Maxillofacial Imaging under the Malaysian Dental Council, while also serving as a Radiation Protection Supervisor and a Quality Assurance Program committee member for the Ministry of Health Malaysia. Internationally, she serves as an Adjunct Professor at Universitas Airlangga and Universitas Gadjah Mada, and as a Clinical Consultant and Technical Advisor at Management & Science University (MSU) Medical Center. Committed to public health equity, Prof. Norliza leads impactful local and international community health projects. Domestically, her field initiatives evaluate oral health, betel quid habits, and food insecurity among Indigenous (Orang Asli) populations in Pahang and Johor. Internationally, her research explores global dental anthropometry, including root canal morphology studies in Kenyan sub-populations. Her core research focuses on 3D imaging (CBCT, Micro-CT), bone microstructure quantification, and AI integration in clinical dentistry, including AI age estimation models and the SmileGuardian intraoral scanner. She holds multiple patents and copyrights (including the Digital Plate Sensor Protector and SNA Estimator), serves on the editorial board of BMC Medical Imaging, reviews for various local and international journals, and is an active member of the European and Asian Academies of Dentomaxillofacial Radiology.
