Biography | |
Prof. Dr. Mohammad Tariqur Rahman completed B.Sc. (1993) and M.Sc. (1995) in Microbiology from the University of Dhaka (Bangladesh); M.Sc. (1998) and Ph.D. (2001) in Biochemistry from Katholieke Universiteit Leuven (Belgium). He worked at the University of Fukui (Japan) as a Centre of Excellence (CoE) researcher in the field of Neuroscience (2004-2005). He started his academic career in Biotechnology Discipline, Khulna University (1996-2003) and later served as the Founding Chairman of the Department of Pharmacy at East West University, Dhaka (2004). He also worked as a faculty member at International Islamic University Malaysia (2005-2015). Since July 2015, Prof. Tariq is attached with the Faculty of Dentistry, University of Malaya. Prof. Tariq is currently an Assocaite Dean (continuing Education) at the Faculty of Dentistry, UM (2022-2024); Executive Editor of Annals of Dent UM – the official journal of the Faculty of Dentistry University of Malaya (2018-Present); Associate Editor of Biological Trace Element Research (IF 4.081, 2021); and the founding President of the Malaysian Society for Oral Microbiologists and Oral Immunologists (MySOMOI, 2018-2020). Among his multidisciplinary research interests, notable contributions are made in the fields of: metallo-biochemistry in health and diseases; medicinal or pharmacological applications of natural products; neocortex development; halal food science; in vitro propagation of mesenchymal stem cells; detection of pathogenic bacteria and viruses; and more recently on scientometrics. He wrote a number of health related columns in New Straits Times (Malaysia) and The Daily Star (Bangladesh). In addition to his research publications Prof Tariq authored “Healthy Living in Isalm: A Postmodern Perspective” (ISBN: 978-99917-87-09-01) and has been the lead editor of “Immunology of Dentistry” (ISBN: ISBN: 978-1119-89-30-04). Besides those academic an professional writing Prof tariq publsihed a number of poetry books (in Bangla) and a book “I am a Racist are You Not” (ISBN: ISBN: 978-967-17624-0-0) describing his expereince working and traveling different parts of the world. |
