Dr. Purabi Mazumdar is a senior lecturer at Centre for Research in Biotechnology for Agriculture (CEBAR), University of Malaya. She obtained her master's degrees in Botany (honours: Microbiology) at Gauhati University and Doctoral degrees in the field of Energy from Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati (IITG), India. She qualified State Level Eligibility Test for Lectureship Commission, Government of India, 2007 and Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) 2007 in Life Sciences and availed fellowship from the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Govt. of India (2007-2012) at IITG. In her Doctoral studies, she generated transgenic Jatropha varieties with resistance to Spodoptera litura (leafworm). She also investigated the environmental impact on seed and oil traits of Jatropha curcas accessions and investigated the physicochemical properties of Jatropha oil and biodiesel and life cycle analysis of the biodiesel production process. After PhD, she was offered a position of postdoctoral research fellow at CEBAR UM and then a research fellow in the field of crop protection against abiotic stresses. Her postdoctoral study was focussed on understanding the stress response mechanism using bioinformatics, biochemical, molecular and functional genomic approaches. Her current research focuses on ultraviolet mediated plant protection against plant pathogen and understanding the response mechanism of the plant to UV exposure. Her research interest also lies in smart farming.
