Dr Fadzilah Hanum Mohd Mydin is a Family Medicine consultant and academic at Universiti Malaya in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, specialising in geriatrics in primary care, lifestyle medicine, mental health, and health systems innovation. Her research focuses on vital yet often overlooked issues affecting older adults, including abuse of older people, advance care planning, social isolation, and mental health. She also explores healthy ageing, health behaviours, and the utilisation of technology in healthcare to improve access and quality of care. She has developed context-sensitive training programmes and clinical guidelines for healthcare practitioners as part of the Prevent Elder Abuse Initiatives (PEACE®). Her doctoral research involved developing and evaluating educational interventions to address the abuse of older people, emphasising the crucial role of primary healthcare providers. Her research on the abuse of older people has been recognised with awards at the 2014 WONCA Asia Pacific Conference and the 2025 Pierre Pluye International Award. She has led digital health innovations, including a mobile app designed to promote behavioural change and manage chronic diseases via telehealth. Her work has earned awards at the Malaysia Technology Expo and the International Innovation Awards. She is the co-chair of the WONCA Special Interest Group on Family Violence and a member of the WONCA Special Interest Group on Healthy Ageing, contributing to national and international discussions on healthy ageing and safeguarding older adults. As an academic, she supervises postgraduate students in the Master of Family Medicine and Master of Medical Science programmes. Her ongoing work continues to influence healthcare practice, policy, and education both within Malaysia and internationally. She actively engages with communities to promote healthy ageing through lifestyle interventions, notably leading the global Walk with A Doc initiative in Petaling Jaya. Dr. Yau Yat Huang obtained a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering, Cum Laude Honors degree, in 1994 from Wichita State University, Kansas, USA, and a Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering in 1996 from the University of Science Malaysia, Penang, Malaysia. Professor Dr. Yau obtained his Doctor of Philosophy in Mechanical Engineering in 2005 from the University of Canterbury, Christchurch, New Zealand. He was a prestigious NZAID (New Zealand Agency of International Development) PhD scholar from 2001 to 2004 at the University of Canterbury, Christchurch, New Zealand. Ir. Dr. Yau is also the Carter Bronze Medal holder of the Chartered Institution of Building Services Engineers, United Kingdom (CIBSE), for the years 2013 and 2015. He is a well-known international M&E Engineering expert and has been practicing as an M&E engineer for the past thirty one years. Ir. Dr. Yau is a Professor in Mechanical Engineering at the Department of Mechanical Engineering, University of Malaya. He is currently the Principal Researcher and Coordinator at the well-known UM-Daikin Laboratory and the UM-JAF (Japan Air Filter) Laboratory. In 2024, Professor Yau served as a host professor for the Fulbright Specialist Program at the University of Malaya, facilitating a collaborative project with Professor John Zhai, a renowned academic from the University of Colorado, USA. This project focused on improving indoor air quality (IAQ) and occupant health in affordable housing within hot and humid climates, emphasizing interdisciplinary research and fostering cross-institutional relationships. Professor Yau was the former Associate Editor of the Journal of Indoor and Built Environment from 2012 to 2017. Additionally, Ir. Dr. Yau was the Head of the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Malaya from 2009 to 2011 and the Deputy Dean (Development) from 2011 to 2012 at the Faculty of Engineering. Furthermore, Professor Yau is a registered mechanical Professional Engineer with a Practising Certificate in Malaysia [PEPC] and a Chartered Professional Engineer in Australia [FIEAust, CPEng, NER]. He is also a registered mechanical professional engineer with APEC and EMF (International Professional Engineer) and a Fellow corporate member of the Institution of Engineers, Malaysia (FIEM) and the Institution of Engineers, Australia (FIEAust). He is a full member of the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air Conditioning Engineers, Inc. show more »Surinderpal Kaur is a Professor and the Dean of the Faculty of Languages and Linguistics at the Universiti Malaya, Malaysia. She holds a PhD from Lancaster University, UK. With a career spanning over three decades, she has made significant contributions to the fields of linguistics, critical discourse studies, and multimodality. Her expertise lies in Critical Discourse Studies and Multimodality, with research interests spanning discrimination and prejudice, particularly in migration, Islamophobia, far-right extremism, terrorism, gender, and sexuality. She has been invited to speak by the Director-General of the OIC on Islamophobia at the UN for the International Day Against Islamophobia in 2024. She has also been invited to speak on Islamophobia by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic. She has published extensively in reputable journals, contributing to the global understanding of how discourse shapes and reflects social realities. Currently, her work centres on climate change communication and education, reflecting her commitment to addressing pressing global challenges. She is also the Co-Chair of the University Malaya Committee for Climate Change which functions as a part of the technology advisory panel for Climate Change for the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability. As Co-Chair, she is focused on ensuring that UM obtains observer status at the Conference of Parties for Climate Change, and also for UM to take the lead in climate-related research in the nation. She is also the SDG Champion for Climate Change for Universiti malaya. She has represented Malaysia and UM at COP29 (UNFCCC) in Baku on Humanising Sustainability. She is currently the Dean of the Faculty of Languages and Linguistics at UM. She is also the Chair, for the Malaysian Language Deans Council, and is leading the taskforce for all public universities on Technology Enhanced Language Learning (TELL). She is committed to embedding digital humanities in the teaching and learning of languages and is focused on establishing a Digital Humanities Centre at the faculty, which will be the hub for TELL for the nation and ASEAN. Beyond academia, she is actively involved in capacity-building initiatives for Punjabi and Sikh youth in Malaysia, fostering leadership and community development. Her career reflects a deep commitment to inclusive education, interdisciplinary collaboration, and the application of linguistics to address pressing social and environmental challenges. She continues to shape national and international discourse on the critical role of language in society.
