Surinderpal Kaur is a Professor and the Dean of the Faculty of Languages and Linguistics at the Universiti Malaya, Malaysia. She holds a PhD from Lancaster University, UK. With a career spanning over three decades, she has made significant contributions to the fields of linguistics, critical discourse studies, and multimodality. Her expertise lies in Critical Discourse Studies and Multimodality, with research interests spanning discrimination and prejudice, particularly in migration, Islamophobia, far-right extremism, terrorism, gender, and sexuality. She has been invited to speak by the Director-General of the OIC on Islamophobia at the UN for the International Day Against Islamophobia in 2024. She has also been invited to speak on Islamophobia by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic. She has published extensively in reputable journals, contributing to the global understanding of how discourse shapes and reflects social realities. Currently, her work centres on climate change communication and education, reflecting her commitment to addressing pressing global challenges. She is also the Co-Chair of the University Malaya Committee for Climate Change which functions as a part of the technology advisory panel for Climate Change for the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability. As Co-Chair, she is focused on ensuring that UM obtains observer status at the Conference of Parties for Climate Change, and also for UM to take the lead in climate-related research in the nation. She is also the SDG Champion for Climate Change for Universiti malaya. She has represented Malaysia and UM at COP29 (UNFCCC) in Baku on Humanising Sustainability. She is currently the Dean of the Faculty of Languages and Linguistics at UM. She is also the Chair, for the Malaysian Language Deans Council, and is leading the taskforce for all public universities on Technology Enhanced Language Learning (TELL). She is committed to embedding digital humanities in the teaching and learning of languages and is focused on establishing a Digital Humanities Centre at the faculty, which will be the hub for TELL for the nation and ASEAN. Beyond academia, she is actively involved in capacity-building initiatives for Punjabi and Sikh youth in Malaysia, fostering leadership and community development. Her career reflects a deep commitment to inclusive education, interdisciplinary collaboration, and the application of linguistics to address pressing social and environmental challenges. She continues to shape national and international discourse on the critical role of language in society.
show more »Dr Muggundha Raoov s/o Ramachandran is an analytical chemist and currently a Senior Lecturer at Department of Chemistry, Faculty of Science, University of Malaya (UM), Malaysia. Dr. Muggundha received his Ph.D. degree from the University of Malaya in 2015 and fully funded by Malaysian Ministry of Higher Education (SLAB/SLAI Scholarship). He received his M.Sc. degree in Analytical Chemistry and Instrumental Analysis from University of Malaya and his bachelor degree in Analytical and Environmental Chemistry (1st class) from the University of Malaysia Terengganu in 2011 and 2009, respectively. He was attached to Cluster of Integrative Medicine, Advanced Medical and Dental Institute (AMDI), Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) as a Senior Lecturer after completed his Ph.D. To date, more than 40 ISI journals have been published with h index of 11 which comprised of 358 citations in the field of ionic liquids in separation sciences, extraction techniques and new material development for analytical applications. Besides publication, he has also managed to won few Gold Medals in few research innovation competition such as International Invention, Innovation and Design (IIID UITM CNS 2018), Universiti Teknologi Mara Negeri Sembilan, 2018, Penang International Inventation, Innovation and Research Design Platform (PIID 2017), Universiti Teknologi Mara, 2017 and Johan Pertandingan Inovasi GEN PJ MBPJ 2018 KATEGORI IPT, Majlis Bandaraya Petaling Jaya, 2018. He also received best Oral Presenter award at The International Conference of Analytical Sciences (SKAM), 2018 and Certificate of Excellence in Publication from Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM), 2018. He has secured few national grants such Fundamental Research Grant Scheme (FRGS, MOE) and Internal Research Grant as a Principle Investigator and Co-researcher. At this moment he is actively supervising BSC, MSC and PHD research mode students and with his expertise, he has been appointed as reviewers, panel, and examiners. Dr Muggundha Raoov s/o Ramachandran has also received professional recognition as Registered Chemist from Institute of Chemistry (IKM, Malaysia), Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC) and Malaysian Ionic Liquid Research Society (MILRS). show more »Dr. Saz obtained his BEng in Civil Engineering at Universiti Malaya in which he specialized in finite element analysis. He has provided renewable energy consultation as part of community engagement to obtain his MSc in Environmental Management at the University of Hertfordshire, UK. During his PhD at Universiti Malaya, he further specialized in building information modelling (BIM) and life cycle assessment (LCA). His research interests include industry-wide implementation of BIM, LCA of sustainable construction materials, and nanomaterials in cementitious materials. He is a Practitioner Member of the Institute of Environmental Management and Assessment (IEMA) UK, a Professional Technologist registered with the Malaysian Board of Technologists (MBOT) and a Professional Member of the Institute of Geospatial and Remote Sensing Malaysia (IGRSM).
