Dr Mas Ayu research interest focuses on mental health, substance abuse and psychopharmacology, especially the side effect of metabolic syndrome due to the treatment of schizophrenia. A recipient of several research grants, she has many collaborative research activities with University Malaya Centre of Addiction Sciences. Her recent project is Enhancing Quality and Longevity of Life of Malaysian B40 under Long Term Research Grant Scheme (LRGS). She also involved in another project for B40 - Coping to Live with COVID-19: The New Norm which was funded by WHO. As a public health specialist in infectious disease and field epidemiologist, Dr Mas Ayu is the member of Malaysia One Health University Network (MyOHUN) which is part of USAID. She is active in activity related to One Health in Malaysia and Southeast Asia Region. Dr Mas Ayu also has research interest on communicable diseases mainly focusing on vector borne diseases like Chikungunya and Dengue Fever. She has research collaboration through Malaysia-Sweden Research Link with Umea University, working on the early warning system of dengue outbreak. Dr Mas Ayu attended the evidence-based medicine (EBM) practice workshop as training for trainer in Oxford University in 2008, funded by grants from the European Union. The international collaboration was together with Utrecht (UMCU), Centre for Evidence-Based Medicine (CEBM), University of Oxford, the Rumah Sakit Cipto Mangunkusumo (RSCM) Hospital, Jakarta and University of Malaya. She has conducted several EBM workshops together with other trainers. She also served as panel for The Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA), which is a statutory body in Malaysia to accredit academic programs provided by educational institutions providing post-secondary or higher education and facilitate the accreditation and articulation of qualifications.
show more »Dr. Hazwan Ariff Hakimi is an architect and academic specialising in architectural history, theory, and philosophy, with a sustained research focus on architectural and cultural heritage and Islamic art and architecture. He holds a PhD in Architecture from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (Graduate on Time with Excellent Thesis) and a Master of Arts in Architectural History (Distinction) from The Bartlett, University College London. His academic training reflects a strong commitment to critical historiography, theoretical inquiry, and interdisciplinary scholarship. Dr. Hazwan’s research investigates architecture as a spiritual, cultural, and ethical practice, with particular attention to Islamic and non-Western contexts. Through peer-reviewed journal articles, scholarly book chapters, and conference publications, his work advances contemporary debates on meaning, memory, and continuity in the built environment. In teaching, Dr. Hazwan plays an active role in shaping architectural education at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. He encourages students to integrate theoretical reflection, historical understanding, and cultural sensitivity into architectural thinking and design practice, foregrounding intellectual coherence across theory, research, and studio work, and fostering critical inquiry and scholarly rigour. Alongside his academic career, Dr. Hazwan has professional experience as a design architect, with contributions to projects including Rica Residence in Kuala Lumpur and City International Hospital in Ho Chi Minh City. He is a registered member of the Board of Architects Malaysia (LAM), the Malaysian Institute of Architects (PAM), the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA), and the Historians of Islamic Art Association (HIAA). He also serves in editorial, reviewing, and academic service roles, reflecting his commitment to advancing architectural scholarship and supporting the next generation of researchers. Dr. Hazwan actively welcomes research collaborations and postgraduate supervision in architectural history, theory, and philosophy, architectural and cultural heritage, and Islamic art and architecture. His ongoing work seeks to bridge philosophy and practice, tradition and modernity, and theory and place, contributing to an architectural discourse that is historically grounded, culturally attuned, and intellectually rigorous.
show more »Associate Professor Zuraida Rastam Shahrom began her legal career as a Magistrate in the Klang Sessions and Magistrate court where she presided over civil and criminal matters. She also presided over juvenile matters in the Court for Children. After serving as a Magistrate for 7 years she was then promoted to the position of Senior Federal Counsel with the Attorney General's Chambers of Malaysia. In the Attorney General's Chambers she headed the Human Rights and International Organisations Unit which provided advisory services to the Government of Malaysia on various legal issues in general and specifically on issues relating to human rights and international organisations. Her major accomplishments during her 10 years of service with the Attorney General's Chambers are as follows: - Attorney General's Chambers representative to the United Nations Legal Committee meetings in New York for years 2002, 2004 and 2006. During these meetings she was involved in the multilateral negotiation of the Optional Protocol to United Nations Convention on the Safety of the United Nations Personnel which was adopted by the United Nations General Assembly in 2005. - Attorney General's Chambers representative to the United Nations Commission of Human Rights and the Human Rights Council meetings where she presented Malaysia's initiatives to promote and protect human rights in Malaysia. - Participation in Malaysia's reporting before the United Nations Compliance Committee on the Rights of the Child in 2008 to present the legal initiatives taken by Malaysia to ensure Malaysia's compliance with the Convention on the Rights of the Child. The Committee concluded that Malaysia has satisfactorily complied with the Convention and encourages Malaysia to uplift the reservations that it has made to certain provisions of the Convention. - Attorney General's Chambers representative to the Hague Conference on Private International Law (HCPIL) in Australia where she presented a paper on Malaysia's legal position in relation to cross-border family, child protection and legal cooperation under the HCPIL Conventions. - Together with the Ministry of Women, Family and Community Development drafted Malaysia's country report on the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW) and Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC) which was presented to the CEDAW Committee and CRC Committee During her period of private practice she handled civil litigation cases and as Head of Advisory in the the Securities Commission, together with her team of officers initiated various enforcement actions in the form of administrative actions against capital market intermediaries that breached provisions of the securities law. Details of the administrative actions taken and sanctions imposed on the breaching parties are available on the Securities Commission's website and Annual Reports for years 2013 - 2016. Her Masters in Law research was in the area of traditional knowledge and access and benefit sharing under the Convention on Biological Diversity. Her current research interest is in the area of sustainable finance and she holds the Faculty Research Grant researching in the area of sustainable banking regulatory framework in Malaysia.
