Dr. Sabri Sulaiman is a Senior Lecturer in Sociology at the Department of Anthropology and Sociology, Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, University of Malaya (UM), Malaysia. A seasoned academic, researcher, and consultant, Dr. Sabri brings experience in advancing child and family welfare, policy, intervention, and rights-based approaches to social justice across local and global contexts. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Social Administration and Justice, a Master’s in Social Intervention, and a PhD in Social Services, all from the University of Malaya (UM). His academic journey has been marked by a consistent commitment to vulnerable and marginalised populations, with his Master’s thesis focusing on Social Deprivation and the Social Well-being of Malaysian Children, and his PhD research contributing to the development of a Community-Based Social Care Model for Street-Connected Children. Dr. Sabri has collaborated with and consulted for government agencies, including the National Population and Family Development Board (NPFDB) or LPPKN. Dr. Sabri's areas of interest focus on child and family policy and welfare, Social Care, Social Intervention, Social Policy, Social Rights, Social Justice, and Social Protection. Using mixed methods, his research and primary work focus on: Understanding and addressing the complex, intersecting needs and global challenges faced by children and families especially those in vulnerable and marginalised situations including children and families affected by migration, poverty, those in conflict with the law, children trapped in the worst forms of child labour and trafficking, persons with disabilities (PWDs), the homeless, undocumented and stateless, the elderly, children and families living in poverty, as well as children and families with multiple complex needs. Strengthening governance, social care systems, social protection and welfare policies to drive meaningful social change and ensure equitable access to essential services, especially for vulnerable and marginalised groups. Combating at-risk behaviours, violence, health and education inequality faced by vulnerable children and families through evidence-based interventions and policies that prioritise child and family well-being. Promoting inclusive, rights-based approaches to social justice and rights, ensuring that marginalised communities receive the care, protection, and opportunities they deserve. Evaluating and enhancing the effectiveness of policies and intervention frameworks to foster accountability, sustainability, and continuous improvement in social care and policy systems. Developing innovative, evidence-driven strategies to fortify support networks for children and families, empowering them to thrive despite adversity. Advocating for systemic change to safeguard the rights, justice, and well-being of vulnerable populations, tackling behavioural, social, and structural challenges with urgency and commitment. Dr Sabri welcomes expressions of interest and collaboration on any of the following areas. Beyond academia, he is actively involved in applied research, collaboration and consultancy, particularly with ministries, government agencies, international organisations, and marginalised communities. His work reflects a deep commitment to addressing societal challenges through rigorous research, practical interventions, and impactful intervention and policy development. He is currently leading several major research initiatives, including "A Study on Risk Behaviours in At-Risk Adolescents in Malaysia" and "Creating Inclusive Digital Education for Students with Disabilities in Higher Education Institutions in Malaysia." He is also authoring two forthcoming books, namely "Social Care for Street Children in Malaysia" and "Sociology Perspective on Justice and Care of Vulnerable Children and Families: Issues, Policy, and Intervention." His work is internationally recognized, and he holds memberships in various professional bodies, including the Association of Southeast Asian Studies in the United Kingdom (ASEASUK), the Social Policy Association, the International Society for the Prevention of Child Abuse and Neglect, the Malaysian Association of Social Workers (MASW), and the International Sociological Association. Dr. Sabri has published widely in international and regional peer-reviewed journals, contributed chapters to scholarly books, and presented his research at numerous international conferences. He welcomes collaborative opportunities with scholars, practitioners, and institutions working to promote justice, equity, policy and social care systems that leave no one behind.
show more »Professor (I) Sr Mohd Khairudin bin Abd Halim FRICS, FISM, FMIPFM, MBVAM, ICVS Professor (Industry) Real Estate Department Faculty of Built Environment Prof. (I) Sr Mohd Khairudin Bin Abd Halim is currently an Industry Professor at the Real Estate Department, Faculty of Built Environment, University of Malaya, he is a former Director General of Valuation and Property Services Department., Ministry of Finance Malaysia and the Past President of Board of Valuers, Appraisals, Estate Agents, and Property Managers Malaysia. He is also the Past Deputy President of the Royal Institution of Surveyor Malaysia (2019-2020) and the Past Deputy President of Business Valuers Association Malaysia. Graduated from UTM in 1983 with B. Surv(Hons), Estate Management and possess his Post Graduate Certificate in Valuation and Property Management from Sheffield Hallam University, UK in 1993.In the year 2019 he obtained Fellowship of Royal Institution Surveyor, Malaysia, and fellowship of the Chartered Royal Institution of Surveying United Kingdom in the subsequent year. Served the Valuation and Property Services Department for almost 4 decades since 1983. He has been serving in several states namely Pahang, Federal Territory Kuala Lumpur, Sabah, Selangor, and Johor and as the Director and District Valuer. He has also served as the Director of INSPEN before been appointed as the Deputy Director General (Strategic Policy) in Head Quarter. His passion and endeavor on specialized valuation make him as the first Division Director for almost 10 years with the Plant, Machinery and Equipment Valuation Division in the Valuation and Property Services Department, Head Quarter. His previous experience include valuation of plant, machinery, and equipment for various purposes such as market value, liquidation, purchase, privatization, rental, insurance and capital value to the Federal Government, States, Local Authorities and Statutory Bodies. He has a wide experience in advising the Malaysia Airport Holding (MAH) on Insurance Valuation for all international and domestic airports and STOL Ports in Malaysia. He has been involved in various Plant and Machinery valuations such as Quarry Plants, Palm Oil Mill Industry, Nanotechnology and electro chemistry equipment, Technical Training Institute, Airports, Vehicles, Satellite/Aircraft testing equipment, Ferry, Power Generation Plant, Water Treatment Plants, Methanol Plants, and many others. He has been very actives in giving lectures and talks on PME subjects in various Seminars, conferences, and Short Courses locally and abroad. Involve in the collaboration program with Taqeem, Kingdom Saudi Arabia in provided training and guiding for Saudi accredited program. He has participated in the MTCP (Malaysia Technical Corporation Programme) in providing training to international participants in INSPEN since early 2000. Apart from his current position he is also the Board Members of LPPSA (Lembaga Pembiayaan Perumahan Sektor Awam), Ministry of Finance since the year 2020.
show more »Dr. Saz obtained his BEng in Civil Engineering at Universiti Malaya in which he specialized in finite element analysis. He has provided renewable energy consultation as part of community engagement to obtain his MSc in Environmental Management at the University of Hertfordshire, UK. During his PhD at Universiti Malaya, he further specialized in building information modelling (BIM) and life cycle assessment (LCA). His research interests include industry-wide implementation of BIM, LCA of sustainable construction materials, and nanomaterials in cementitious materials. He is a Practitioner Member of the Institute of Environmental Management and Assessment (IEMA) UK, a Professional Technologist registered with the Malaysian Board of Technologists (MBOT) and a Professional Member of the Institute of Geospatial and Remote Sensing Malaysia (IGRSM).
