Associate Prof. Dr. Roslina Ismail, known as Lyne Ismail, is a distinguished visual artist, academic, and researcher specializing in Art-Science Convergence, Neurodiverse Creative Interventions, and Contemporary Abstract Art. Her abstract art reimagines microstructures and biological processes as metaphors for social complexities and personal narratives. Her interdisciplinary research is highlighted in her publication in Leonardo Journal (MIT Press), titled "Object-Oriented Ontology in Shaping Perspectives on Bacterial Art and Non-Human Agency," exploring how non-human actors like bacteria and AI challenge traditional notions of creativity. Her broader inquiry focuses on non-human agency and its societal impact, grounded in Science and Technology Studies (STS). In Cultural Studies, Lyne’s research examines subculture and intangible cultural heritage, including her work on Malaysian female Muslim punks and Islamic aesthetics. She contributes to global discussions on the preservation and reinterpretation of cultural practices through contemporary art. Her RimbaScape Room project addresses neurodiverse mental health, demonstrating art’s transformative potential for social change. Internationally exhibited, including at the Slade School of Fine Arts, Lyne continues to push boundaries in visual culture, technology, and cultural heritage, mentoring emerging scholars and fostering innovation in art and society. show more »Muhammad Hatta Roselee joined the Department of Geology, Faculty of Science, University of Malaya as Senior Lecturer in November 2020. He is also a certified professional geologist since 2015 under the Board of Geologists Malaysia. His research focuses on the petrology, geochemistry and tectonic setting of the Sibumasu and Indochina terrane, particularly within the Southeast Asia geology. In teaching area, he is mainly focused on teaching the 1st year and 2nd year students where he is responsible for developing fundamental geology knowledge and skills towards them. He is currently the representative of the research collaboration between Department of Geology, UM and the Institute of Geological Sciences (one of the branches of the Chinese Academy of Geological Science) where the main focus is to study the geological relationship of the tin ore formation and the host rock granitic rock. The duration of the research collaboration is 5 years starting from last April 2021. Prior in joining the University of Malaya, Hatta has worked as a research assistant and teaching as tutor in both University of Malaya, Kuala Lumpur and the Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia, Bangi.
show more »I am a senior lecturer at the Department of Science and Technology Studies, Faculty of Science, Universiti Malaya. My expertise lies in climate change education, critical thinking, gamification in education, and science policy. Passionate about empowering youth through innovative pedagogy, I am now leading multiple funded projects such as Superhero Iklim, a gamified campus-wide climate action campaign, and research on enhancing students’ critical thinking skills for sustainable development. As part of global interests in boosting Halal tourism through aritifical intelligence, I am currently leading a funded project by the Japan Foundation developing a sustainable smart halal tourism framework for South East Asia. I am also a recipient of the UN SDGs Open Pedagogy Fellowship (Asia Chapter), and serves on the National STEM Association committee. My work has been recognized with international awards for teaching innovation, and regularly contributes to public engagement programs on environmental education and sustainability.
