PROF. DATO' SERI IR. DR. NOOR AZUAN BIN ABU OSMAN

Profesor Dato’ Seri Ir. Dr. Noor Azuan Bin Abu Osman has achieved considerable distinction in his academic and professional pursuits. He graduated from the University of Bradford, UK with a B.Eng. Hons. in Mechanical Engineering and furthered his credentials with an MSc and Ph.D. in Bioengineering from the University of Strathclyde, United Kingdom. A leading expert in biomechanics, Azuan’s research spans various areas, with a particular focus on the measurements of human movement, the design of prosthetics, orthotics, and orthopaedic implants, as well as the development of instruments for assessing forces and joint motion. In 2004, his significant contributions to the development of the prosthetic socket were recognized with the BLESMA award from ISPO UK NMS. Prof. Azuan has held a number of prestigious positions in his career. He served as the Deputy President of the Society of Medical and Biological Engineering (MSMBE), an affiliate of the International Federation for Medical and Biological Engineering (IFMBE). His roles have included being the Acting Registrar of UM, Dean of Engineering, Deputy Director of the Centre for Applied Biomechanics, and Coordinator of the Motion Analysis Laboratory at the Faculty of Engineering, University of Malaya. Marking a notable advancement in his academic leadership, he was appointed as the Vice Chancellor of Universiti Tenaga Nasional (UNITEN) from 15th June 2022 until 5th November 2023. Subsequently, he continued his journey in higher education leadership by assuming the position of Vice Chancellor at Universiti Malaya starting on 6th November 2023. Prof. Azuan has been distinguished with several honors for his professional achievements and service. In 2023, he was conferred the Darjah Gemilah Pangkuan Negeri (D.G.P.N) by the Governor of Penang, bestowing upon him the title of Dato' Seri, in recognition of his exceptional contributions to the field of engineering and higher education. He is a prolific scholar with numerous publications in books, conference proceedings, and journals. His professional affiliations are testament to his expertise: he is a Chartered Engineer (C.Eng.) and Fellow (FIMechE) with The Institution of Mechanical Engineers, UK; a Chartered Professional Engineer (C.PEng) and Fellow (FIEAust) with Engineers Australia; and a Chartered Scientist (C.Sci.) and Professional Member (MICR) with The Institute of Clinical Research, UK. Prof. Azuan's career is a testament to his dedicated commitment to the advancement of biomechanical engineering and his skillful navigation through the challenges of academic leadership.

ASSOCIATE PROF. DR. SHAMSUL BIN MOHD ZAIN

Dr Shamsul became a member of the Universiti Malaya faculty in 2017, where he works as an academic lecturer in the Department of Pharmacology within the Faculty of Medicine. Before that, during his two years as a postdoctoral fellow, he focused on molecular studies related to liver diseases, including drug-induced liver injury and non-alcoholic fatty liver disease. He holds multiple roles within the department, including Head of the Pharmacogenomics Laboratory, Quality Manager, Year-2 and Postgraduates Pharmacology Course Coordinator for dental programme, and Academic Advisor for postgraduate students. Additionally, he is a member of the faculty's Postgraduates Committee (JKITF) and Internationalisation Unit (IUFOM). Also, he holds the position of a contributing Associate Editor for the Malaysian Applied Biology Journal. He is an external examiner of a Pharmacy course programme for Kolej Universiti Antarabangsa MAIWP (UCMI). He is also the Chair and founder of the Malaysia-Taiwan Forum for Evidenced-Based Medicine, and maintains an active role as an associate member of the South East Asian Pharmacogenomics Network (SEAPharm). He is currently overseeing the progress of three PhD candidates and has successfully graduated three PhD and four master's degree graduates. He has a strong focus on clinical and molecular hepatology, pharmacogenomics, and other omics-related research, with an impressive track record of over 40 publications.

DR. MUMTAZ AINI BINTI ALIVI

Dr. Mumtaz Aini Alivi is a Senior Lecturer at the Department of Media and Communication Studies, Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, Universiti Malaya. She earned her Bachelor of Arts (Hons.) with a double major in (i) Language and Malay Linguistics and (ii) Journalism from Universiti Putra Malaysia. She later obtained her Master of Corporate Communication and Doctor of Philosophy (Mass Communication) from the same university. Her research interests primarily focus on Journalism, Broadcasting, News, Online Media, Political Communication, and Mass Communication. Apart from her academic qualifications, Dr. Mumtaz has extensive experience in journalism, news broadcasting, and media industry management. She was a media practitioner for twenty-two years at Radio Televisyen Malaysia (RTM), a government television station. For almost twenty years, she was attached to the News and Current Affairs Department, where she held multiple roles, including Broadcast Journalist, Newscaster, News Editor, and News Producer. Throughout her career, she was involved in various high-profile assignments, including accompanying the Prime Minister and other national leaders for international news coverage, conducting live news broadcasts from Parliament, and reporting on other significant national events, in addition to daily news coverage. After completing her PhD, Dr. Mumtaz transitioned to a different role at RTM, serving as Assistant Director in the Policy and Research Section. She later assumed the same role in the Strategic Planning Section before being transferred to the Quality Control for Creative Content Unit as an Evaluation Officer. These three divisions operate under the Strategic Development Department, where she contributed for an additional two years before leaving RTM. With over two decades of experience in the media industry—particularly in television news, along with some experience in radio and media management—Dr. Mumtaz has made significant contributions to the field. Her dedication and passion for journalism were recognized when she won the Best Broadcast Journalist Award at the national level in 2001. In addition to her industry experience, Dr. Mumtaz has been appointed by several organizations for various consultancy and evaluation roles. She has served as a panel judge for the prestigious Malaysian Journalism Award, organized by the Malaysia Press Institute (MPI). She was also a panel member for Pitching Evaluation (Private) and a panel member for Screening (Syndicated) for RTM programs. In 2021, Dr. Mumtaz transitioned from media practice to academia, joining the University of Malaya as a Senior Lecturer. She embraced this new career path with a bigger mission—to contribute to nation-building by sharing her knowledge and experience to shape future leaders in journalism and media.
