DR. THANALACHIME A/P PERUMAL

Dr. Thanalachime Perumal joined academic life as a senior lecturer in Faculty Languages and Linguistics at  The University of Malaya since 15 July 2016. Currently, she is a lecturer for Tamil Program at the Department of Malaysian Languages and Applied Linguistics. She completed her Doctoral degree  (Discourse Analysis) at University Putra Malaysia; her Masters of Modern Languages at the University of Malaya,  her Diploma in Language & Culture at University Malaya and completed teaching certificate  (Tamil) at Raja Melewer Teaching College. Her main research interests are Discourse Analysis, Tamil teaching, and learning, Media discourse, and translations. Her teaching interests are broadly within Discourse Analysis (esp Media discourse), Sociolinguistic and Translation. She welcomes proposal for Ph.D. or Master research project on any aspect of Global Tamil, areas of particular interest include: Tamil language in higher education, Language ideological debates relating to global Tamil, Intelligibility issues relating to the spread of Tamil, Attitudes towards Tamil Language, Tamil language in higher education contexts around the world, Tamil Special Purpose (CSP) in Mass Media and Language structure-Tamil syntax.

PROF. DR. NORMA BINTI CHE YUSOFF

Norma-Rashid is an avid researcher on faunistic living treasures with an extensive field experience. Her job involves four domains teaching, research, administration and providing scientific services to a wider community. The central theme of her research interest is behavioural ecology in the laboratory or various ecosytems (mangrove, marine, riverine, agricultural and forest) in wide ranging animals (insects, spiders & scorpions, selected vertebrates including humans). Currently, she has developed a passion for various aspects (biomonitoring, biocoenosis, ecomorphometrics, taxonomy, behaviour and ecology of dragonflies & spiders. She has described a myriad of species found to be new local records or new to science promoting Malaysian megabiodiversity. Being the only trained local odonatist led her to many connections and recognitions of international repute. Some of her collaborations include Natural History Museum, Leiden, Sussex University, Harvard University, Universiti Brunei Darussalam and National Univesity of Singapore. Her teaching techniques exploited her behaviour expertise relating animal behavioural repertoire as tool usage in capturing student interests which led onto enthusiastic learning. DR. NURLIANA BINTI KAMARUDDIN

Nurliana Kamaruddin is senior lecturer at the East Asian Studies Department, Faculty of Arts and Social Science, Universiti Malaya. She is also a fellow at the Centre for ASEAN Regionalism, AEI, UM. Previously she was Deputy Executive Director (Academic and Students Affairs) at the Asia-Europe Institute (2021-2024). Her recent publications include books by Routledge (Southward Bound: Examining the Regional Policies of Taiwan and South Korea, 2024) and Palgrave-Macmillan (The New Normal and Its Impact on Society: Perspectives from ASEAN and the European Union, 2024). Nurliana was a recipient of the Korea Foundation ASEAN Fellowship (2013-2015) and the POSCO TJ Park Foundation Asia Fellowship (2009-2011). Her research interest includes international security and development with a focus on East Asia and specifically Malaysia-Korea Relations.
