Dr. Syed Bahari Ramadzan Bin Syed Adnan is currently a Senior Lecturer in the Physics Department, Faculty of Science. He completed his Ph.D. in the subject of Material Science. His research is dedicated to advancing inorganic materials for energy storage applications. He specializes in ceramic electrolytes and electrodes for lithium-ion, sodium-ion, and magnesium-ion batteries, with a particular focus on sustainable materials. His research has garnered significant attention, evidenced by over 556 citations, an h-index of 14, and an i10-index of 24 on Google Scholar (as of 2024). This impact is further solidified by a publication record of 39 research papers, a granted research patent (A method for synthesizing nano ionic sodium zinc silicate"), and the successful acquisition of six research grants (as Principal Investigator) from Universiti Malaya (RU grants) and the Malaysian government (FRGS). Notably, his research on developing a clay-based battery electrolyte also received media coverage in 2023, highlighting its public significance. He has also excelled in research competitions, securing two gold medals in the Material Technology Challenge 7.0 and Pre-University Matriculation Innovation Competition in 2022, and a bronze medal in the Invention, Innovation, and Design Exposition (iiDeX) in 2015 and 2022. Beyond research, he has been actively involved in the society and academic community, serving in roles such as Committee Member in Institute Fizik Malaysia, Member of Malaysian Solid-State Science and Technology as well as in the National STEM Association and Associated Chief Editor in an international STEM journal.His leadership experience, including serving as Deputy Director (Research and Development,2017-2022) and Acting Director in PASUM (2018), as well as participation in numerous department and faculty committees, demonstrates his contributions to the university and the broader community. show more »Dr. Chui Pin Leaw is an Associate Professor at the Institute of Ocean and Earth Sciences (IOES), University of Malaya. Her research pertains to marine protistology and phycology, focusing on the studies of Harmful Algal Blooms (HABs). Her research spans ecology, taxonomy, molecular systematics, evolution, and the genetics and toxigenesis of harmful toxic microalgae. She commenced her academic career at Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS) in September 2008 as a senior lecturer DS51 in the Faculty of Resource Science and Technology, and a Research Fellow at the Institute of Biodiversity and Environmental Conservation (IBEC). She obtained her First Class BSc. (H), in Marine Science from the National University of Malaysia (Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia) and subsequently earned her MSc. and Ph.D. in Marine Science from the same institution. She is affiliated with professional organizations pertinent to her field of study, including the International Society for the Study of Harmful Algae (ISSHA), the Phycological Society of America (PSA), and the Japanese Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS). She is actively engaged in editorial responsibilities, having been appointed as a reviewer for high-impact factor journals (BMC Evolutionary Biology, PlosONE, Harmful Algae, Scientific Reports), and has served as a regional editor on the editorial board of Harmful Algae News. Throughout her academic tenure, she has mentored over 40 undergraduate students, six Ph.D. candidates and 16 MSc students who have completed their studies under her guidance.
show more »Dr. Fatiha Senom is a Senior Lecturer and a Teacher Educator in the Department of Language & Literacy Education, Faculty of Education, Universiti Malaya, as well as a homegrown scholar whose work bridges rigorous scholarship with real-world impact in TESOL and Second Language Teacher Education (SLTE). She earned a B.Ed TESL from Universiti Malaya with distinction and was awarded the Anugerah Pelajaran Diraja (2009), followed by a fast-track Ph.D. in Education (TESL) in 2016. With research interests on ESL teacher identity; mentoring and professional development; translanguaging and language-learning investment; and ESL writing anxiety, her work advances TESOL and SLTE through research-informed pedagogy and curriculum reform, evidenced by excellent PhD research supervision and publications in Scopus/WoS venues, books with Routledge and Pearson, and chapters with leading presses. As principal investigator, Dr. Fatiha has successfully led four national and two international research grants in her areas of expertise and has served as co-researcher on eighteen additional national and international projects. She also leads language recovery and enrichment projects for underserved primary and secondary learners, most recently, the WIRA EDUCARE project in Kg. Melayu Wira Damai, Gombak, under the Ministry of Higher Education's Kampung Angkat Madani initiative, embodying the university’s mission of social responsibility and educational equity. Nationally, she serves as an expert panel member for the 2027 school curriculum reform (Kurikulum Persekolahan 2027) for Ministry of Education, chairperson of the evaluation panel for the English Textbook Package, 2027 School Curriculum for Dewan Bahasa dan Pustakaa MUET (Malaysian University English Test) item developer with Malaysian Examination Council, and a consultant to National Institute of Public Administration Malaysia (INTAN) on CEFR-aligned assessment; internationally, she has served as a consultant for Universitas Negeri Medan on Outcome-Based Education and delivered keynotes at several international conferences. As M.Ed ESL Programme Coordinator (2018–2024), she led curriculum design, review, and sustainability initiatives, introduced flexible study plans to support timely completion, and curated a world-class learning experience that strengthened postgraduate scholarly skills. Recognised with the Certificate of Excellent Service (2021, 2023) and the Excellence Service Award (2024), Dr. Fatiha advances UM’s academic footprint through research, teaching, policy engagement, and community partnership, shaping confident, ethically grounded English language professionals for a rapidly changing world.
