DR. HEMAVATHI A/P SHANMUGAM

Dr Hemavathi Shanmugam is a psychiatrist and medical lecturer in the Department of Psychological Medicine, University of Malaya. Her primary clinical and research interest is non-invasive brain stimulation in psychiatry. She holds certification in transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS; PULSES, USA) and transcranial electrical stimulation (TES; PlatoScience, Denmark), and is an active member of international neuromodulation networks, including the Clinical TMS Society and its Asian Special Interest Council (CTMSS). Clinically, Dr Hemavathi led the implementation of the repetitive TMS (rTMS) service for psychiatric disorders at University Malaya Medical Centre (UMMC), established through collaboration with the Department of Rehabilitation Medicine. She is formally credentialed and privileged by UMMC to perform TMS procedures. To further strengthen her interest in precision neuromodulation, she completed a clinical attachment in Interventional Psychiatry at the National University Hospital (NUH), Singapore, with exposure to neuronavigation-guided and accelerated TMS protocols. Her research focuses on neuromodulation and mental health economics, with ongoing work in cost-of-illness analyses, real-world clinical outcomes, and cost-effectiveness evaluations of rTMS in Malaysia, supported by a BKP research grant. She is actively involved in undergraduate and postgraduate psychiatry education and contributes to the development and credentialing of neuromodulation services within her department.

ASSOCIATE PROF. DR. JULIANA BINTI USMAN

  Dr. Juliana Usman is an Associate Professor from the Department of Biomedical Engineering, Universiti Malaya. She is a member of the Centre for Applied Biomechanics, UM and the appointed secretary for the Malaysian Society of Biomechanics. She had served as the Head of the Biomedical Engineering Department in the Faculty of Engineering, Universiti Malaya from 2019 to 2021. She is a certified Chartered Engineer (CEng) from the Engineering Council of UK and a member of the Institute of Engineering and Technology (UK) and the Board of Engineers (Malaysia). Her research areas are in Sports Biomechanics (Injury Prevention and Performance Enhancement) and in Biomechanics and Motion Analysis. Dr Juliana has been active in research and in obtaining research grants from internal and external resources with 10 grants as the Principal Investigator (PI) and 11 as co-PI totalling to about RM1.5M in research grants. Her research include researches on knee OA biomechanics analysis and intervention, biomechanical investigations on driving simulation including lower limb contributions, muscle fatigue during heavy traffic situation, various biomechanics analysis in sports ie. badminton, bowling, rugby, table tennis, sepak takraw, and also researches on shoulder injury analysis and prevention. Currently she is collaborating with OGAWA and GOODNITE  to investigate the effectiveness of massage chairs on multiple disorders and on sleep study and different mattress specifications. Due to her expertise she has been invited as keynote and invited speakers as well as forum panels at international and local conferences and as experts in various media platforms. She has completed supervision of 4 PhD and 7 Masters students, and currently supervising 4 PhD and 5 Masters candidates.

DR. SAMSUL FARID BIN SAMSUDDIN

Dr. Samsul Farid Samsuddin is a Senior Lecturer at Department of Library & Information Science in the Faculty of Arts & Social Sciences, University of Malaya. He was a Senior Librarian at Universiti Putra Malaysia Library (2010 - 2018) before joining the University (UM) in 2018. He graduated with Diploma in Building Surveying in 2003 and Bachelor of Science in Information Studies (Library & Information Management) in 2010 both from Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM). Dr. Samsul Farid obtained his Master degree in Library & Information Science (MLIS) from Universiti Malaya in 2012 and his doctorate (PhD) in Rural Advancement from Universiti Putra Malaysia in 2017. His research is geared towards Community Development in Behavioral and Information Studies (library services & information management, information literacy, digital literacy, user needs & behaviour, information services for rural advancement, the use of ICT for development and community development). He's an expert in his fields and has published numerous articles in the library literature, systematic literature review papers and presented at various conferences.
