Dr. Zahiruddin Fitri is a Senior Lecturer in the Building Surveying Department at the Faculty of Built Environment, Universiti Malaya. Specialising in building pathology (or the science of what goes wrong with buildings), he earned his PhD in Concrete Technology from the University of Dundee in 2012. From 2014 to 2024, he served as Head of E-Learning at the university and was Deputy Director of the Academic Development Centre (ADEC) from 2020 to 2022. A key resource in teaching and learning, he has conducted extensive training for academics and co-authored university policies on e-learning. He has also played a crucial role in shaping Malaysia’s higher education landscape through his involvement in MEIPTA, a national think tank for e-learning policy and European-level projects like Erasmus+ CBHE. Passionate about pedagogical innovation, he actively writes on technology-enhanced learning and contributes to national and international education initiatives, and have given several keynote speeches on the topic. Prof. Dr. Rozalina Zakaria’s research is at the forefront of photonic materials and devices, with a strong focus on the development of optical fiber sensors, nonlinear optical phenomena, and advanced light–matter interactions. Her work explores the integration of plasmonic nanostructures and two-dimensional (2D) materials to enhance optoelectronic performance, particularly for sensing and signal-processing applications. She has made significant advancements in the design of nanostructured materials for enhanced light–matter interaction, especially in applications involving surface plasmon resonance (SPR) and magneto-optical phenomena.She was selected for an Honorable Mention in the Senior Scientist Category of the U.S.–ASEAN Science Prize for Women 2025 and has been recognized globally as a Top 2% Scientist by Stanford University in consecutive years (2024 and 2025) in the sub field of Optoelectronics and Photonics. She has published extensively in high-impact journals. Her key contributions include studies on the nonlinear optical behaviour of plasmonic metallic nanoparticles, optimization of SPR-based fiber sensors and the integration of 2D materials for broadband photonic applications. She has led numerous research projects on plasmon-enhanced photodetectors and ultrafast optical modulators, positioning her as a prominent research leader in Malaysia’s photonics landscape. show more »Dr Koh Peng Soon graduated in 2002 with MBBS from the International Medical University. He first gained experience in Surgery working as a medical officer in the Department of Surgery, Hospital Taiping right after internship where he obtained his Membership of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh (MRCSEd), UK in 2005. He joined University of Malaya in 2006 for postgraduate training and graduated with Masters of Surgery (MSurg) in 2010. He worked as a General Surgeon in Hospital Sungai Buloh after graduation before rejoining University of Malaya as a Senior Lecturer and Clinical Specialist in 2011 for sub-specialty training and his interest in Hepatobiliary and Pancreatic Surgery. In October 2013 to September 2014, he spent a year as a Fellow and Honorary Clinical Associate at the Division of Hepatobiliary & Pancreatic Surgery and Liver Transplantation, Queen Mary Hospital, The University of Hong Kong, Hong Kong which is world renowned. His interest in HPB field involves HPB malignancies, minimal invasive surgery (MIS) and liver transplantation. Besides clinical duties, he is actively involved in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching as well as research and already has several publications to his name. He received his promotion to Associate Professorship in early 2019 and is currently the Head of HPB Unit & Liver Transplantation and work as a Consultant Surgeon in the Department of Surgery, University of Malaya Medical Centre.
