DR. LEE WENN CHYAU

Wenn-Chyau Lee received his BSc (Hons) degree in Biomedical Sciences from University of Malaya, Malaysia in year 2011, and graduated with his PhD in Medical Sciences from University of Malaya in year 2014. Subsequently, he joined Singapore Immunology Network (SIgN, A*STAR) as a research fellow in Laurent Renia’s Laboratory. He was appointed as SIgN fellow after receiving OF-YIRG grant awarded by the National Medical Research Council (NMRC) of Singapore in year 2018. He joined the newly formed A*STAR ID Labs as an investigator in year 2021. Not long after that, he joined the Department of Parasitology, Faculty of Medicine, University of Malaya as a senior lecturer. As a parasitologist, he has involved in studies encompassing a number of medically important parasites and disease vectors. His main research interest revolves around the immuno-pathobiology of malaria. He has been investigating and deciphering the roles of rosetting (a phenomenon where a red blood cell infected with malaria parasite is stably adhered to uninfected red blood cells, forming a flower-like structure called ‘rosette’) in the pathogenesis of malaria. He also involved in research projects that contributed the draft genomes of Brugia pahangi, Toxoplasma gondii, Anopheles cracens and An. maculatus. He has been working as a research fieldworker in different places including the Thai-Burmese Border, China, peninsular Malaysia and Malaysian Borneo. As different laboratory settings are equipped differently, he enjoys adapting and improvising facilities available in the field sites to conduct experiments. To date, he has published (as first/ corresponding author) in a number of highly reputable journals such as Blood, eLife, EBioMedicine, Frontiers in Immunology, and Frontiers in Microbiology, and has become reviewers for journals such as Scientific Reports, Tropical Biomedicine, PLoS Neglected Tropical Diseases, Acta Tropica, Bio-protocols, Journal of Blood Medicine, Frontiers in Cellular and Infection Microbiology, and Frontiers in Medicine. He is also a review editor of Frontiers in Microbiology.

DR. NOR HAZRUL MOHD SALLEH

Nor Hazrul bin Mohd. Salleh adalah anak kelahiran negeri Kelantan. Dilahirkan pada 23 Mac 1971 di Kg. Manek Urai, Kuala Krai, Kelantan. Mendapat pendidikan awal di SK Alor Bakat dari tahun 1978-1983. Kemudian menyambung pengajian ke SMKA Falahiah, Pasir Pekan, Kelantan dari tahun 1984-1987. Selepas itu, meneruskan pengajian peringkat menengah di Kolej Islam Kelang dari 1987-1989. Seterusnya melanjutkan pelajaran ke Universiti Hasan II, Mohammedia, Morocco pada tahun 1989-1991. Kemudian berpindah ke Universiti Mohamed V, Rabat, Morocco dari tahun 1991-1995 dan memperoleh Ijazah Sarjana Muda Bahasa dan Kesusasteraan Arab (pengkhususan Sastera Arab). Mendapat Diploma Pendidikan (Bahasa Arab/Pendidikan Islam) daripada Universiti Islam Antarabangsa Malaysia (UIAM) pada tahun 1997. Seterusnya menyambung pelajaran peringkat Sarjana di Universiti Malaya dan dianugerahkan ijazah Sarjana Pengajian Bahasa Moden (MMLS-Master of Modern Language Studies) pengkhususan Fonetik Arab pada tahun 2010. Dianugerahkan Ijazah Doktor Falsafah (Ph.D Edu) bidang Pendidikan (Teaching Arabic to non-Arabic Speakers) daripada Universiti Islam Antarabangsa Malaysia (UIAM) pada tahun 2017. Pernah berkhidmat sebagai guru di sekolah-sekolah Yayasan Islam Kelantan (YIK) tahun 1996-1998. Kemudian bertugas sebagai Pensyarah/Pegawai Latihan di Pusat Bahasa Arab (PBA), YIK dari tahun 1999-2003. Dilantik sebagai Guru Bahasa di Akademi Pengajian Islam, Universiti Malaya Nilam Puri, Kelantan (APIUMNP) mulai 2003 dan sekarang menyandang jawatan Guru Bahasa Kanan sejak 17 Mei 2010. Diamanahkan tanggungjawab sebagai Penyelaras Bahasa Arab APIUMNP mulai 16 September 2006 hingga 2011. Dilantik sebagai Penyelaras Program Khas Bahasa Arab (PKBA) dari 02 Jun 2022 hingga sekarang. Diamanahkan juga sebagai Pengetua Kolej Kediaman Nilam  Puri (sekarang Kolej Kediaman UMEC Bachok) mulai 1 Ogos 2010 hingga sekarang.

PROF. DR. RAVEENDRAN A/L PARAMESRAN

P. Raveendran received the B.Sc and M.Sc degrees in electrical engineering from South Dakota State University, Brookings, South Dakota, USA in 1984 and 1985 respectively. He was a systems designer with Daktronics, U.S.A before joining the Department of Electrical Engineering at University of Malaya, Kuala Lumpur, as a lecturer in 1986. In 1992, he received a Ronpaku scholarship from Japan to pursue Doctorate in Engineering, which he completed in 1994 at University of Tokushima, Japan. He was promoted to Associate Professor in 1995 and was promoted to Professor in 2003. His research areas include image and video analysis, formulation of new image descriptors for image analysis, fast computation of orthogonal moments, analysis of EEG signals, and data modeling of substance concentration acquired from non-invasive methods. His contributions can be seen in the form of journal publications, conference proceedings, chapters in books and an international patent to predict blood glucose levels using non-parametric model. He has successfully supervised to completion 17 Ph.D students and 13 students in M.Eng.Sc (Masters by research). He is currently a Senior IEEE member and also a member of the Signal Processing Society.
