ASSOCIATE PROF. DR. JULIANA BINTI USMAN

  Dr. Juliana Usman is an Associate Professor from the Department of Biomedical Engineering, Universiti Malaya. She is a member of the Centre for Applied Biomechanics, UM and the appointed secretary for the Malaysian Society of Biomechanics. She had served as the Head of the Biomedical Engineering Department in the Faculty of Engineering, Universiti Malaya from 2019 to 2021. She is a certified Chartered Engineer (CEng) from the Engineering Council of UK and a member of the Institute of Engineering and Technology (UK) and the Board of Engineers (Malaysia). Her research areas are in Sports Biomechanics (Injury Prevention and Performance Enhancement) and in Biomechanics and Motion Analysis. Dr Juliana has been active in research and in obtaining research grants from internal and external resources with 10 grants as the Principal Investigator (PI) and 11 as co-PI totalling to about RM1.5M in research grants. Her research include researches on knee OA biomechanics analysis and intervention, biomechanical investigations on driving simulation including lower limb contributions, muscle fatigue during heavy traffic situation, various biomechanics analysis in sports ie. badminton, bowling, rugby, table tennis, sepak takraw, and also researches on shoulder injury analysis and prevention. Currently she is collaborating with OGAWA and GOODNITE  to investigate the effectiveness of massage chairs on multiple disorders and on sleep study and different mattress specifications. Due to her expertise she has been invited as keynote and invited speakers as well as forum panels at international and local conferences and as experts in various media platforms. She has completed supervision of 4 PhD and 7 Masters students, and currently supervising 4 PhD and 5 Masters candidates.

PROF. DR. JAMAL I-CHING SAM

Dr Sam is a medical graduate from the University of Nottingham in the UK, and completed his postgraduate training in Medical Microbiology in London. He joined the University of Malaya in 2005. He is head of the diagnostic virology and advanced (molecular) diagnostics units in the University of Malaya Medical Centre, a 1000-bed tertiary referral centre. His clinical diagnostic work includes expanding molecular diagnostic services and involvement in hospital responses to emerging infectious diseases such as COVID-19. He teaches both undergraduates and postgraduates. His research interests cover clinical, epidemiological, diagnostic and pathogenesis aspects of chikungunya virus and other arboviruses, respiratory viruses (including influenza and SARS-CoV-2), and enterovirus A71, and he has held several national and international grants.

DR. LIONG SIOK FUANG

A thought leader in digital healthcare, Dr. Liong actively researches and implements technological solutions to optimize health care, utilizing digital tools for remote monitoring and enhanced patient education. Her clinical focus is complemented by robust public health work, championing essential cancer screening programs and respiratory diseases programs within underserved populations. Beyond the clinic, Dr. Liong is deeply involved in community-based initiatives, notably dedicating time to Kampung Orang Asli (indigenous village) health programs, providing necessary medical access and advocating for health equity. This hands-on experience underpins her broader commitment to social accountability in medicine, driving systemic improvements to healthcare delivery for marginalized communities. Her work exemplifies the vital role of primary care in both individual health and societal well-being.
