DR. SABRI BIN SULAIMAN

Dr. Sabri Sulaiman is a Senior Lecturer in Sociology, as well as an academician, researcher, and consultant at the Department of Anthropology and Sociology, Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, University of Malaya (UM) He holds a Bachelor's degree majoring in Social Administration and Justice from the University of Malaya (UM). After he completed his Bachelor degree, he persuing Master in Social Intervention in University of Malaya (UM). His Master's thesis provided key insights into the "Social Deprivation and Social Well-being  of Malaysian Children". He also earned a PhD in Social Services from University of Malaya, while his PhD dissertation explored the "Deficit  Needs, Antisocial, and Prosocial Behaviour of Street Children in Malaysia". The main purpose of his Ph.D findings contributed a "Community-based Social Care Model" development. Dr. Sabri has collaborated and consulted for government agency such as The National Population and Family Development Board (NPFDB) or LPPKN. Dr. Sabri's areas of interest focus Child & Family Policy & Welfare, Social Care, Social Intervention, Social Policy, Social Rights, Social Justice and Social Protection. Using mixed methods, his research and primary work focuses on:  Understanding and addressing the complex, intersecting needs and global challenges faced by children and families especially those in vulnerable and marginalized situations including children and families affected by migration, those in conflict with the law, children trapped in the worst forms of child labour and trafficking, persons with disabilities (PWDs), the homeless, undocumented and stateless, the elderly, children and families living in poverty, as well as children and families with multiple complex needs. Strengthening governance, social care systems, social protection and welfare policies to drive meaningful social change and ensure equitable access to essential services especially for vulnerable and marginalised groups. Combating maltreatment, at-risk behaviors, crime, violence, health and education inequality faced by vulnerable children and families  through evidence-based interventions and policies that prioritize child and family well-being. Promoting inclusive, rights-based approaches to social justice and rights, ensuring that marginalized communities receive the care, protection, and opportunities they deserve. Evaluating and enhancing the effectiveness of policies and intervention frameworks to foster accountability, sustainability, and continuous improvement in social care systems. Developing innovative, evidence-driven strategies to fortify support networks for children and families, empowering them to thrive despite adversity. Advocating for systemic change to safeguard the rights, justice, and well-being of vulnerable populations, tackling behavioral, social, and structural challenges with urgency and commitment. Dr Sabri welcomes expressions of interests and collaboration on any of the following these areas.  Beyond academia, he is actively involved in applied research, collaboration and consultancy particularly with ministry, government agency, and marginalized communities. His work reflects a deep commitment to addressing societal challenges through rigorous research, practical interventions, and impactful intervention and policy development. He is currently writing a book titled "Social Care for Street Children in Malaysia", "Justice and Care for vulnerable children and family: Issues, Policy, and Intervention",  and serves as the Principal Investigator (PI) for a research grant titled "A Study on the Risk Behaviour in At-risk Adolescents in Malaysia" and "Creating Inclusive Digital Education for Students with Disabilities in Higher Education Institutions in Malaysia." He also a members of Association of Southeast Asian Studies in the United Kingdom (ASEASUK), Social Policy Association, International Society for Prevention of Child Abuse and Neglect, Malaysia Association of Social Worker (MASW), and International Sociological Association. Dr. Sabri has published extensively in both international and local peer-reviewed journals, has contributed chapters to academic books in his areas of expertise, and presenting his research output in international and local conferences.

DR. LEE WAN LING

Dr. Lee Wan Ling was a practicing clinical nurse in coronary ward from 1992 until she joined the College of Nursing, University Malaya Medical Centre as nurse educator in 2000.  She joined the Department of Nursing Science UM in 2011. She has more than three decades of experience in teaching nursing students and supervising them in clinical areas. After obtaining her PhD in 2018, she is actively involved in research activities with keen interest in mobile-Health, technology in education, coronary nursing, aged care especially in long-term facilities, cross-cultural adaptation and validation of questionnaire, health literacy, nursing education, critical care and non-communicable diseases. Among her current projects in aged care research include the local adaptions and implementation of World Health Organization’s iSupport for Dementia in collaboration with Alzheimer’s Disease Foundation Malaysia and Sunway University (UMG003C-2022). She leads an interdisciplinary program to develop caregiving credentialing and music care module for caregivers and older people (IIRG003-2022 SAH) in collaboration with aged care industry and related NGOs (https://youtu.be/rB9hn6hcbBA). She also leads the Education and Training subcommittee of KENDANA – Malaysian Caregivers Association (https://www.kendana.com/portfolio ). She is expanding the development of electronic activity tracking system (EATs) prototype called UMFit (Grant RF009C-2018) with a team of UM researchers working on project entitled AI-Enabled Application for Personalization and Monitoring of Fitness Among Cardiac Rehabilitation Patients (Prototype Research Grant: PRGS/1/2022/SKK01/UM/02/1) in collaboration with international partners such as Huami and Huawei to build a hybrid cardiac rehabilitation program.

ASSOCIATE PROF. DR. RAFIDAH BINTI AGA MOHD JALADIN

Associate Professor Dr Rafidah Aga Mohd Jaladin (BSc. (Hons) Psych (UWA, Perth), M.Couns (Hons) (Malaya), PhD (Monash, Australia)) is a counselling psychologist at the Department of Educational Psychology and Counselling, Faculty of Education, University of Malaya. She was a recipient of Excellent Service Award (2018) and Excellent Service Certificate thrice (i.e., 2005, 2013, and 2015) during her service at the university. She has been executive member of the International Counselling Association of Malaysia (PERKAMA International) since 2015 and a mentor for University of Malaya Counselling Association (PERKUM) since 2013. She was a program coordinator for Bachelor of Counselling programme from 2012 to 2014. She was appointed Head of Department from 2014-2015, dealing with staff, students, human resource, curriculum and more. She was also appointed as a Director of UM Family Research and Development Centre in July 2020 to 30 June 2022. She is involved in curriculum review exercises, national and international networking, as well as community works. She was also a resident fellow at both private and public universities in Malaysia for a total of six years (1999 - 2005), thus has had hands-on residential experience on student affairs. Rafidah has more than 20 years of experience as a professional practitioner-cum-educator in psychology and counselling at various work settings. She has educated and trained diverse client populations including, school and college students, corporate staff, and local communities. Her publications comprise counselling and psychology books, book chapters, learning modules, journal articles, and magazine entries. Some of her published works are Professional Issues and Ethics in Counselling and Psychotherapy (2013, 2017), Introduction to Crisis Counselling (2016), Multicultural Counselling (2015), Group Dynamics (2016), Intervensi Krisis dalam Hubungan Menolong (2020, awarded as 50 Best Malaysian Titles), and Teori Kaunseling: Panduan Pemilihan dan Pembentukan Orientasi Teoritikal Kaunselor (2022). Her research areas include multicultural counselling, counsellor education, supervision and training; and mental health literacy and counselling. Rafidah has been involved in about 30 research projects. Her current projects are funded by the Ministry of Higher Education: Fundamental Research Grant Scheme (FRGS) -  Development of Continuous Professional Development Training Module based on Multicultural Counselling Competencies for Professional Counsellors in Malaysia and Knowledge Transfer Programme (KTP) – Empowering Disabled Youths’ Psychological Wellbeing for Career Development (DiY-PsychKit).  Rafidah’s contribution to society involves giving numerous motivational and mental health awareness talks, conducting short courses, sharing psychology-related topics in media, and offering counselling and consultancy services for diverse populations in Malaysia. Her love for communities has resulted in her engagement with cultural minority groups such as at-risk teenagers (RU04I-2016), urban poor children (RU013-2017N), single mothers (RU013-2017H) and disabled youths (MRUN2019-1D). Fit as a fiddle, Rafidah is also active in sports and recreation activities. She has been representing Faculty of Education and University of Malaya in Inter- and Intra-Varsity Sports Carnivals since 2002, especially in Volleyball, Netball, Badminton, and Table Tennis. She was recipient of Highest Achievement in Sports Award by the Vice Chancellor in 2004. As a certified HRDF trainer (No. 5469), Rafidah is currently looking into exploring academia-corporate training and consultation through HRDF community network.
