Dr. Zaharul Abdullah is a Senior Lecturer at the Asia-Europe Institute, Universiti Malaya. He earned his PhD in the political economy of development from the Institute of Malaysian and International Studies, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM). Prior to his current appointment, he served as a lecturer at several Malaysian public universities, including Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM), Universiti Malaysia Terengganu (UMT), and Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), and previously held the position of Research Officer at the Akademi Profesor Malaysia (APM). His academic expertise centres on China–Southeast Asia relations, China–US relations, developmental state theory, and the political economy of infrastructure and economic cooperation, with particular emphasis on the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI). Dr. Zaharul has published extensively in Scopus-indexed journals such as International Journal of China Studies, International Journal of Asia Pacific Studies, and Kajian Malaysia. He currently leads several competitive research grants and is an active contributor to policy discussions in Malaysian media, including Berita Harian and Malaysiakini.
show more »Roy Anthony Rogers is a with the Department of Strategic and International Studies, University of Malaya, having joined the department in 2001. Dr Roy Anthony Rogers served as the Deputy Executive Director of the Asia Europe Institute (Research and Development) of the University of Malaya from November 2022 to December 2024. In addition, he served as the Director of the Centre of ASEAN Regionalism Universiti Malaya (CARUM). CARUM aims to enhance research and academic activities related to ASEAN and regionalism. Besides he held the post of Head of the Department of International and Strategic Studies, Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences for eight years (2012-2020) and has been reappointed as the Head of Department since 05 May 2025. In March 2026 he has been appointed a Fellow of the Academy of Nationhood by the Prime Minister of Malaysia. Dr Roy Anthony Rogers has a Master in Strategic and Defence Studies (M.SDS) from the University of Malaya. He has also taught at the Malaysian Armed Forces Staff College (MAFSC) and the Malaysian Defence Armed Forces College (MDAF). In 2012 he obtained Ph.D. from the International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM) and his research interest are government and politics of the Central Asian republics and human rights conditions in Xinjiang. His area of specialization includes Political Science, International Relations (Theories of International Relations) and History (China and Central Asia). He has been invited by the Institute of Diplomatic and Foreign Relations (IDFR) Malaysia to lecture at the Diplomatic Training Course for ASEAN Attachment Officers. He is one of the Media Resource Persons for Radio and Television Malaysia (RTM), Sinar Harian and Astro Awani. Received the Excellence Service Award in 2016, 2008 from the University of Malaya, International Visitor (IV) from the US State Department in 2006.
show more »Born in a small town - Teluk Intan, Perak, Dr Limi Lee became a surgeon in 2013. She is a surgeon specialising in Vascular and Transplant Surgery. She underwent Vascular Surgery Fellowship in Malaysia and did further training at Monash Medical Centre, Australia. During her fellowship at Monash Medical Centre, she completed second fellowship in Renal and Pancreatic Transplant Surgery. She is also an academic surgeon with special interest in research on diabetic foot ulcer, venous thromboembolism prevention and dialysis access. She was one of the authors involved in the Asian venous thromboembolism prevention guidelines, which was published in 2012 and 2017.
