Professor Nor Badrul Anuar is a distinguished academic leader and researcher with a profound track record in institutional governance, digital transformation, and cybersecurity. Following the successful completion of his tenure as the Associate Vice Chancellor (Infrastructure and Information Services) and Chief Information Officer (CIO) at Universiti Malaya, he also concluded a significant term as a Senate Member (2022–2025), where he chaired key committees overseeing ICT, sports, library services and infrastructure development. Currently, he serves as a Professor at the Faculty of Computer Science and Information Technology and is the Director of the Centre of Research for Cyber Security & Network (CSNET). In this capacity, he spearheads excellence in cybersecurity research, supervising high-impact projects that foster innovation within the global security landscape. Nor Badrul Anuar began his academic journey at Universiti Malaya, earning his Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Computer Science in 2001 and 2003, respectively. He obtained his PhD at the Centre for Information Security & Network Research, University of Plymouth, UK 2012. After joining Universiti Malaya as a tutor in 2001, he was promoted to lecturer in 2003, senior lecturer in 2008, and associate professor in 2017. In 2022, he was promoted to full professor at the Faculty of Computer Science and Information Technology at Universiti Malaya, Kuala Lumpur. In addition, he is also serving as a visiting professor at the Institute of Informatics and Computing in Energy (IICE), Universiti Tenaga Nasional, Malaysia. He has supervised numerous post-doctoral fellows and research students, including twenty-two PhD and ten master's research students, in the computer network security and applications domain between 2012 and 2025. He has published extensively on computer security and applications, with his work being featured in academic journals both domestically and internationally. As of January 2025, his 171 published paper has attracted 10,900 citations and an H-index of 48, making him a highly cited scholar. He is recognised as an expert in several subject categories, including computer science, engineering, science & technology, telecommunications, and information science & library science, by Web of Science. In 2022-2025, Stanford University recognised him as one of the world's top 2% scientists. Currently, he serves on the editorial board of two journals, including the Journal of Network and Computer Applications (JNCA), which has an impact factor of 7.574. He has received numerous honours and recognitions throughout his illustrious career. He was honoured by Universiti Malaya for eight consecutive years, from 2012 to 2019, for his outstanding service. In 2015, he was recognised as an outstanding lecturer in science at Universiti Malaya and was awarded the university's highest honour, the Universiti Malaya Excellence Award (Anugerah Cemerlang Universiti Malaya). His research interests are intrusion detection systems, high-speed networks, and management information systems. Specifically, he focuses on intrusion detection systems, intrusion response systems, security event management, digital forensics, and network security, as well as switching, routing, IPv6, and multicast. His current research explores network traffic classification and its applications, as well as the role of federated learning in enhancing network security.
show more »Dr. Foong Chan Choong (冯振宗博士) is an expert in educational psychology, interdisciplinary studies, curriculum design, and psychometric. Dr. Foong, an Associate Professor at the Medical Education and Research Development Unit (MERDU) of the Faculty of Medicine at Universiti Malaya, is an educator and researcher in the field of health professions education. He is a member of the Young Scientist Network – Academy Sciences Malaysia (YSN-ASM) and has been conferred the honor of Fellow of the Foundation for Advancement of International Medical Education and Research (FAIMER) PSG Regional Institute, India. He holds a first-class honors bachelor's degree in Science with Education from Universiti Malaya, where he also obtained his PhD in Education. Dr. Foong joined MERDU in 2013 and played a crucial role in the development of the university's new undergraduate medical curriculum. He initiated a new curriculum development project at the post-graduate level and in 2016, he developed the Master of Medical Education, which commenced in 2018 and he has been serving as the founding program coordinator until now. He is also responsible for teaching educational psychology, instructional design, and research methodology for the master's program. His proficiency, deep understanding, and commitment to the development, implementation, and improvement of outcome-based education (OBE) academic programmes have led to his appointment as a programme assessor for the ASEAN University Network–Quality Assurance (AUN-QA). In this role, he regularly evaluates academic programs in the ASEAN region. Dr. Foong Chan Choong is an educationist of great accomplishment, who has dedicated his career to teaching and research. With a passion for interacting with students and teacher trainees, he finds great satisfaction and motivation in his work. Currently, he is involved in teaching the Postgraduate Diploma of Education (Physics specialisation) at the Faculty of Education. In addition to his role in medical education / health professions education, Dr. Foong has also ventured into the field of engineering education. He is a lifelong learner, constantly seeking out new knowledge and experiences. His current research is multidisciplinary in nature, spanning the medical, dental and other health professions, engineering, physics and music education. Dr. Foong's research interests are diverse, with many of his publications focusing on educational psychology and psychometric. To date, he has published more than 70 publications. He holds several editorial positions, including editor for the Annals of Medicine (Medical Education section) (WoS Journal Citation Report 2025 Quartile 1), executive editor for the Malaysian Journal of Qualitative Research (Scopus indexed), and editorial board member for BMC Medical Education (WoS Journal Citation Report 2025 Quartile 1). He has won the Best Reviewer Award for three consecutive years (2022, 2023, 2024) from The Asia Pacific Scholar, a journal published by the National University of Singapore. Dr. Foong plays an active role in the academic community. At present, he is the executive treasurer for the Qualitative Research Association Malaysia and also serves as an executive committee member for the Malaysian Association of Education in Medical and Health Sciences (MAEMHS). In addition to his academic pursuits, Dr. Foong is also an innovator, with several of his projects receiving recognition at the university, national, and international levels. He is also involved in community service, coaching the debate team at his alma mater, a secondary school in Perak. show more »Dr Moy is a Professor of Epidemiology and Public Health, attached with the Department of Social & Preventive Medicine, Faculty of Medicine, University of Malaya, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. She teaches Epidemiology, Nutritional Epidemiology, Research Methodology and Evidence-Based Medicine to both undergraduate and postgraduate candidates. Her research interests include Translational Research in the prevention of non-communicable diseases (NCDs) in the community setting, Workplace Wellness and the effects of obesity and lifestyle behaviours (diet, physical activity etc ) on NCDs. Dr Moy is an established researcher and she has been included in the prestigious World’s Top 2 % Scientists in the Stanford University’s list for the last five conservative years (2020 to 2024). Her expertise in obesity research is ranked top 2.8% among the published authors worldwide on Obesity from 2010 through 2023 (ExpertScape). Dr Moy has vast experience in running cohort study. Currently, she heads a cohort study comprising of almost 15,000 teachers from the Peninsular Malaysia (CLUSTer). A biobank with serum, plasma and buffy coat was set up. The study aims to determine the temporal relationship between lifestyle practices (diet and physical activity) and stress with cardiovascular diseases with repeated measurements over time. This cohort study started in 2013 and up to date, a total 14 PhD/DrPH and one MMedSc (Research) candidates worked on this cohort study and ten of them have graduated. Eighteen ISI articles are published from this cohort. Dr Moy is also actively involved in another study that works on the development of a mobile diet app using image capture as the dietary assessment method. This project is in collaboration with co-researchers in the field of Artificial Intelligence and Behavioural Science. The goal is to have users monitor their diet and for researchers in the nutrition field to have a better tool in dietary assessment. This mobile diet app has registered for patent and copyrights. Efforts to further refine it for commercialisation is ongoing. Dr Moy has generated research grants amounting to more than RM2.5 million. She published more than 100 manuscripts in peer review journals. She is also active in supervising research candidates. To date, she has successfully supervised to completion more than 50 DrPH, PhD, MMedSc (Research) and MPH candidates. Dr Moy initiated and established the University of Malaya Wellness Program in 2008 and coordinated the program until 2013. She also co-ordinated the implementation of Clinical Epidemiology-Evidence Based Medicine module in the MBBS curriculum in 2008. She was the coordinator for the Master of Public Health (MPH) program from 2018 to 2022. She served as Head of the Centre of Epidemiology and Evidence Based Practice (CEBP), one of the top ten research centres in Universiti Malaya, in 2024 - 2025. She is a certified Cochrane Trainer and actively conducts workshops on Cochrane Systematic Review Protocol Development. She serves as associate editors for international and local journals. She also reviews manuscripts for both local and international journals. She actively engages with the media in health advocacy especially in the prevention of obesity and NCDs, promotion of healthy lifestyle and lately in the preventive measures of COVID-19 as well as promotion of vaccination for COVID-19. In summary, Dr Moy has a rich portfolio in teaching, research, mentorship and health advocacy.
