ASSOCIATE PROF. DR. LIM KIAN PING

Kian-Ping Lim is a Senior Lecturer at the Faculty of Economics and Administration, University of Malaya, Malaysia. He holds a B.B.A. (Hons.) from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia and a M.Sc. (Financial Economics) from Universiti Putra Malaysia. His PhD research (Oct 2005-Sept 2009, Department of Econometrics and Business Statistics, Monash University), under the supervision of Prof. Robert Brooks and Prof. Paul Jae Kim, explores three empirical issues on the information efficiency of stock markets- nonlinearity, relative efficiency and evolving efficiency. A comprehensive review of this emerging strand of research is summarized in his 2011 JES paper. He reckons the 4-year PhD journey is the most productive phase of his academic career, publishing 18 out of 21 papers written during candidature in discipline journals.  He holds a B . B . A . in finance with honors from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM ) , and a M.Sc. in f inancial e conomics from Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM). After completing his master degree, Lim joined UMS as a lecturer in January 2002 . Three years later, he was given a staff scholarship to pursue a PhD degree at the Department of Econometrics and Busi ness Statistics, Monash University. He holds a B . B . After completing his master degree, Lim joined UMS as a lecturer in January 2002 . As of December 2018, Kian-Ping Lim has published 1 edited book, 71 refereed journal articles (18 WoS, 20 Scopus), 11 chapters in book and 4 articles in professional magazine. Despite not having a first degree in economics, his research is largely published in mainstream economics and finance journals. Among them are Applied Economics Series (Applied Economics, Applied Financial Economics, Applied Economics Letters and Applied Financial Economics Letters, Taylor & Francis), Economic Modelling (Elsevier), Economics Letters (Elsevier), Journal of Economic Surveys (Wiley-Blackwell), Journal of Emerging Market Finance (Saga), Journal of Empirical Finance (Elsevier), Journal of International Financial Markets, Institutions & Money (Elsevier), Journal of Policy Modeling (Elsevier), International Review of Financial Analysis (Elsevier), Macroeconomic Dynamics (Cambridge University Press), Manchester School (Wiley-Blackwell), North American Journal of Economics & Finance (Elsevier), Research in International Business & Finance (Elsevier) and Singapore Economic Review (World Scientific). His methodological contributions on nonlinearity were acknowledged by the sciences (specifically econophysics), with two of his papers published in journals indexed by Science Citation Index, namely Physica A (Elsevier), and Chaos, Solitons & Fractals (Elsevier). Despite his narrow focus on equity market research, the published articles of Kian-Ping Lim are well read by the academic community. His h-index and citations place him as one of the leading financial economists in Malaysia, as recorded by WoS (h=9, citation=388), Scopus (h=14, citation=677) and Google Scholar (h=22, citation=1671). In IDEAS Ranking of Economists in Malaysia, he has been consistently ranked Top 5% for the past decade. His article “Financial crisis and stock market efficiency: empirical evidence from Asian countries” (co-authored with Robert Brooks and Jae Kim) was listed ScienceDirect Top 25 Hottest Articles in International Review of Financial Analysis for 35 consecutive quarters since April-June 2007 until its service discontinuation by Elsevier at the end of 2015. Notably, the paper occupied the top spot in Oct-Dec 2008, Jan-Mar 2009, Apr-June 2009 and July-Sept 2009. In terms of research network, Kian-Ping Lim has collaborated with more than 20 researchers from countries such as Australia, China, Hong Kong, Malaysia, and the United States. He has the privilege of working with the late Prof. Melvin Hinich since the beginning of his academic career. Prof. Hinich was a world class scholar whose publications traverse four fields: the spatial theory of voting in political science, time series analysis in statistics, political economy and regulatory issues in economics, statistical theory and methods in engineering. Their long distance collaboration on the bispectrum and bicorrelation tests has produced 9 published papers. Apart from research, Kian-Ping Lim also contributes to the profession, serving mainly as journal reviewers (see Publons). He was the founding managing editor for Labuan Bulletin of International Business & Finance (Oct 2002-June 2005). Currently, he serves as the Managing Editor for Malaysian Journal of Economic Studies (flagship publication of the Malaysian Economic Association), and associate editor for Capital Markets Review (flagship publication of the Malaysian Finance Association) and International Journal of Economics & Management. In terms of administration, he was the Deputy Dean (Research & Innovation) at his previous institution- Labuan School of International Business & Finance, Universiti Malaysia Sabah (Jan 2010-Jan 2012). Currently, he serves as the Deputy Dean (Research & Development) at the Faculty of Economics & Administration, University of Malaya (Aug 2016-).  His passion for research and academic achievements attracted the interest of a corporate magazine, Top 10 of Malaysia. The interview was featured in Issue 10 of the magazine. PROF. DR. TUNKU KAMARUL ZAMAN BIN TUNKU ZAINOL ABIDIN

Tunku Kamarul Zaman (or Prof. TK as he is commonly known) is The Professor of Orthopaedics & Regenerative Medicine in University of Malaya (UM) with special interest in upper limb and microsurgery. He is considered the nation’s foremost expert in musculoskeletal basic sciences and research related to Orthopaedic Regenerative Medicine.  He obtained his medical degree (M.D.) from the National University of Malaysia (UKM) in 1998. He entered the Masters of Orthopaedics speciality training program i.e. M.S.(Ortho), in UM (2000) and was later inducted as a lecturer in the same university upon completing his training in 2004. He also obtained a diploma in tissue banking from National University of Singapore in 2003 during his surgical training. Upon completing his sub-speciality rotations locally, he was awarded a national scholarship to pursue his sub-specialty training in the Royal Liverpool and Broadgreen hospitals from 2006 till 2010. During that period, he also obtained a PhD degree from The University of Liverpool. He is an accomplished academician and researcher; with over 220 peer-reviewed articles in many impact factored journals and has been invited to present the research groups' discoveries in numerous international scientific meetings (Citations: >7,600; H-index=50). He founded and still heads the tissue engineering group, a division under The National Orthopaedic Centre for Research and Learning (NOCERAL), supervising around 25 research students at any given time. In addition to doing clinical work and research, he is also heavily involved in administrative duties. His is at present the Executive Director for UM’s Center for Continuous Education (UMCCED), appointed since October 2024. His previous executive administrative duties include being the Director (CEO) of University of Malaya Medical Centre (2015-2020), Deputy dean of research for faculty of medicine (2012-2014), Acting dean for faculty of medicine (2014), Deputy director (clinical) for UMMC (2014-2015), and Director for the Clinical Investigative Centre in UMMC (an internationally award winning centre that conducts over 200 clinical trials a year; 2013-2014). He was also head-hunted to develop Universiti Sains Malaysia’s Bertam Campus in Penang, and established USM Medical Center there during his secondment (2021-2024). Other notable previous appointments include the Chairman of the Public University Hospital Consortium (KHUAM) and advisor on matters relating to the Healthcare for the Ministry of Higher Education (2018-2021). Prof. TK shares his experience and expertise by being a member of several Executive Boards in private university hospitals and international societies. He sits in many national level committees, national research grant review committee, a member of many international societies, have been invited to speak in several academic subjects in many international meetings and, a reviewer and editor/editor-in-chief to a number of academic journals. Due to his vast experience in various areas, he is a recognized trainer for not only Orthopaedics and Research, but also in management, leadership and strategic planning. As an academician, Prof. TK has held the title of Professor from University of Malaya since 2011 at the age of 38. He is/has been nominated and appointed as adjunct and honorary professors in several local and international universities; as well as council members and expert panellist in several organizations such as the prestigious Academy of Science in Malaysia and other Government agencies.

PROF. DR. JENNIFER ANN HARIKRISHNA

Prof. Dr. Jennifer Ann Harikrishna is a Professor of Microbiology & Molecular Genetics at the Faculty of Science, University of Malaya, Malaysia. Prof. Jenni is a British citizen with permanent residence status in Malaysia. After completing her Bachelor of Sciences degree in Microbiology at the University of Surrey, U.K. she was awarded a Whitbread Scholarship to pursue her doctoral thesis on the molecular genetics of industrial yeast at the Cranfield Institute of Technology, Cranfield University, U.K. She graduated in 1990 winning the Chancellors Gold Medal for the most outstanding graduate student of the year. Dr. Jenni then moved to the U.S.A. to take up a two year post-doctoral fellowship at the University of California in San Francisco (UCSF). Dr. Jenni moved to Malaysia in 1991 where she continued her post doctoral research at the University of Malaya, Department of Biology, before joining TropBio Research Sdn Bhd, a small private plant biotechnology company in 1996. In 2001 she joined the Institute of Bioscience at University Putra Malaysia (UPM) as an Associate Professor. Prior to re-joining the University of Malaya in 2006, Dr Jenni was an Associate Professor of Biotechnology at the Malaysia University of Science and Technology (MUST). Prof. Jenni became a full Professor at the University of Malaya in 2011 and holds joint positions as a member of the Faculty of Science and as the Director of the Centre for Research in Biotechnology for Agriculure (CEBAR), University of Malaya. Prof. Jenni also holds a current appointment as an Honorary Visiting Fellow in the Department of Genetics and Genome Biology at the University of Leicester, UK. Her current research focus is on functional genomics and biotechnology for tropical crop improvemnt.
