Dr Yeoh Yin Yin (杨迎楹) is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Chinese Studies, Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, Universiti Malaya. She holds a bachelor’s degree with distinction in Chinese Language Studies from Universiti Malaya, a master’s degree from Peking University, and a PhD from National Taiwan University.

Her research focuses on two interconnected areas: Malaysian Chinese varieties and Chinese language education in multilingual settings. Her linguistic research examines localisation, phonological variation, language contact, language vitality and intergenerational transmission, with particular attention to Hokkien and Hakka communities in Malaysia. Her educational research explores Chinese language pedagogy, teaching materials and the learning experiences of non-Chinese pupils in national-type Chinese primary schools.

She has led funded research projects and published on Malaysian Hokkien, multilingual education, and Malaysian Chinese communities and culture. In 2024, she initiated the Chinese Dialect Festival at Universiti Malaya, an annual platform that translates academic research into public and community engagement. Through national-level dialect competitions for secondary-school students, exhibitions and cultural programmes, the festival brings together universities, schools, clan associations, cultural organisations and local communities. Her work bridges linguistic research, educational innovation and community collaboration to document linguistic change, promote inclusive Chinese language education and strengthen the intergenerational transmission of Malaysia’s Chinese linguistic heritage.
