Dr. Mohd Arif Bin Mohd Sarjidan is currently a Senior Research Officer after serving his eight years as a Research Officer at the Low Dimensional Materials Research Centre, University of Malaya. His duties are to plan and execute research projects, produce research output e.g. research publications, secure research funds, build research networks, manage the administration of the research centre, supervise students, and perform research consultation services. He is a Life Member of the Malaysian Solid-State Science and Technology Society (MASS). Before this, he was a Research and Development Specialist at Digital Optics Malaysia Sdn Bhd, one of the companies under ItraMAS Technology Sdn Bhd based in Penang. Dr. Arif received his Ph.D. degree in Experimental Physics from the University of Malaya in 2019, specializing in the topic of organic electronics devices. His research interests include Optoelectronic devices, Organic Light-emitting diodes (OLEDs), Vertical Organic Light-Emitting Transistors (VOLETs), Organic Transistors, Photo-Sensors, Organic Humidity Sensors, Solar Cells, Hydrogen Production, nanomaterials, organic electronics, Metal Oxides, Ceramics, Quantum Dots. He was also involved in social-science research related to bibliometric analysis for research outputs such as patents and publications. He has published over 40 peer-reviewed journals, conference papers, book chapters, and magazines, including 1 patent. He has over 10 years of experience in managing several research grants including ScienceFund, Fundamental Research Grant Scheme (FRGS), and University of Malaya Research Grant (UMRG), worth almost RM1 mil in total. He has various research collaborations such as MIMOS Berhad, SIRIM Berhad, UiTM, UPM, and also from UM. He currently focuses on translating fundamental research into real-life applications for the betterment of humankind. Dr. Arif received several innovation awards, including the 2 Gold Medal at the International Technology Expo 2019 (ITEX19) and Defence, Security And Sustainability Exhibition 2022 (DSS 2022), and 3 Silver Medal at the Innovation and Technology Expo 2019 (InTEX 19), and the 6th International Innovation, Design and Articulation 2023 (I-iDeA 2023), and the Malaysian Invention and Innovation Expo (MIIX 2023). He was one of the Malaysian representatives to the honorable Lindau Noble Laureates Meeting 2019, held in Germany. He was also awarded the Anugerah Pentadbir Gemilang 2020 (Inovasi Kejuruteraan) by Majlis Persatuan Pentadbir Universiti Awam Malaysia (MASTI) and Anugerah Pentadbir Harapan 2021 by Universiti Malaya. Dr. Arif was appointed as Associate Assistant Editor for the Malaysian Journal of Science (MJS) in 2019, before being promoted to Section Editor for Special Issues in 2024. He has vast contributions to editorial management and contributed to reviving the MJS reputation by introducing a new template for publication articles, redesigning the MJS webpage, launching and managing the MJS Facebook page, and introducing promotion materials for the MJS. Dr. Arif also contributes to the Faculty of Science management. He had been appointed as Head of the Management Section for the Consultation Service Committee of the Faculty. He had a vision to centralize the management of research services and enhance the research consultation in the faculty. He also has been appointed as a Committee Member of Development for the Faculty. He proposed several research programs and promotions such as the Science@UM Workshop Series, which assists faculty members in organizing any research workshop to promote their research and services. Dr. Arif is also actively involved in social engagement programs to promote the science-technology-engineering-math (STEM). He was a speaker for various programs such as Technical Workshop in National Science Challenge 2021, Stem Discovery Program 2019, “LDMRC Young Scientist Bootcamp 2019, and Toying with Science Program 2018. He was a committee member for an international conference as well as several research workshops and seminars. He believes we can create a better life through science. |
