Roshidah Hassan is an Associate Professor at the Department of Asian Languages. From 2018 to 2022, she served as the Deputy Dean (Undergraduate). Prior to that, she was the head of the Asian and European Languages Department. She graduated from University Malaya with a Bachelor of Arts in Malay Studies (Linguistics) in 1994, the University of La Rochelle in France with a Diploma in French Studies in 2000, the University of Poitiers in France with a Master of Teaching French as a Foreign Language in 2003, and the University of Malaya with a PhD (UM) in 2010. Her areas of expertise are language learning, phonology, and phonetics. She teaches French syntax, morphology, phonetics, and phonology. Her fields of research include language acquisition, ethnolinguistics, and phonetics and phonology. Her current research focuses on documenting the Orang Asli languages and how Malaysian pupils learn French sounds. She also conducts studies on the preservation of Portuguese Creole in Malacca.
show more »Evelyn S. DEVADASON is a Professor at the Faculty of Business & Economics, University of Malaya, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Her previous positions include Head, Centre for Latin American Studies (CLAS, 15/7/2013 - 31/12/2014) and Deputy Dean (Research and Development, 9/9/2012 - 14/7/2013), Faculty of Economics and Administration. She received her Ph.D. (Economics) from the University of Malaya in 2006 and M.Soc.Sci. (Economics) from the National University of Singapore in 1992. Her research focuses on international trade and regional integration. Her research work has seen print in international journals (indexed in SSCI and AHCI) such as the World Development, The China Review, India Review, The Pacific Review, Journal of Contemporary Asia, Journal of Contemporary China, Journal of International Development, Emerging Markets Finance and Trade, Asian Economic Journal, Global Economic Review, Singapore Economic Review, Asia Pacific Education Review, Social Indicators Research, Technological and Economic Development of Economy, Total Quality Management and Business Excellence and Environment Science and Pollution Research. In 2023, she received two prestigious appointments at the international level - Member to the Board of Directors, East Asian Economic Association (EAEA); and Malaysian Representative to the Pacific Trade and Development (PAFTAD) International Steering Committee (ISC). She currently serves as Associate Editor to the International Journal of Social Economics (Emerald) and Asian Economic Journal (Wiley). and member to the Editorial Boards of the Journal of Contemporary Asia (Taylor & Francis) and the International Journal of Rural Management (SAGE). She was also a member to the Editorial Boards of two local journals, the Institutions and Economies (previously a Deputy Editor, 17/3/2017 - 31/12/2020) and the International Journal of China Studies. She has been engaged in a number of international and local collaborative research projects, including the International Confederation of Free Trade Unions-Asian and Pacific Regional Organization (ICFTU-APRO, Singapore), Asian Development Bank Institute (ADBI, Japan), the Asian Development Bank (ADB, Manila), World Bank (WB, Washington DC), the Malaysian Competition Commission (MyCC, Kuala Lumpur), ERIA-UNCTAD (Economic Research Institute of East Asia - United Nations Conference on Trade and Development, Jakarta), Open Economy and Trade Research Centre of Shanghai Lixin University of Commerce (People's Republic of China), Food Industry Asia (FIA, Singapore), United Nations Environment Programme-Denmark Technical University (UNEP-DTU) and the European Union H2020 Research and Innovation Framework Programme on Competing Regional Integration in Southeast Asia (CRISEA).

He was with Motorola Solutions since early 1999 and holding position of Principal Staff Engineer (product development and testing). He has been appointed as Visiting Professor to Istanbul University since January 2011. Since August 2013, he is with Department of Electrical Engineering of University Malaya and serving as Associate Professor. He holds 3 US Patents and 4 Defensive Patents in the area of microwave power amplifiers, all assigned to Motorola Solutions. He has authored more than 80 papers in technical journals and conferences and 3 technical books published in USA. Since early 2011, he is actively involved to give technical courses to many organizations in Asia and Europe, including Spain, Germany, Italy, Turkey, Thailand, etc. His name was included in the 2009 Who’s Who in Science and Engineering. He was recipient of the paper award in 2009 IEEE Microwave Propagations and System for his paper on broadband high power distributed amplifier. His two papers on wideband matching circuits and nonlinear microwave stability were an invited paper for IEEE Mediterranean Microwave Symposium 2010 (North Cyprus) and IEEE Wireless and Microwave Technology Conference 2012 (Florida, US), respectively. He has chaired few IEEE and PIERS technical conferences in Europe and Asia since 2009. He has conducted few IEEE seminars related to RF and Microwave Power Amplifier in Europe and Asia since 2007. He also serves as Keynote Speaker to several IEEE conferences since 2010 (Cyprus, Florida US, Beirut, Bangkok, etc).Since June 2009, he is serving as Reviewer of IEEE Transactions on Microwave Theory Techniques, IET Circuit, Devices and Systems, etc. He is Senior Member of Institute of Electrical Electronics Engineers (USA) and Fellow of Institution of Engineering Technology (UK). He has been appointed as IEEE Industry Relations Team of Asia Pacific since Jan. 2015 to support industrial linkage activities. He has been appointed as Invited Professor of Microwave Electronics and Optics – EMIMEO for EMIMEP - Europe, Universit of Limoges, France in 2022. In 2023, he has been selected as Coordinator of Malaysia for German-ASEAN Industry Oriented Innovation Network. As industrial collaboration, he is leading NXP-UM and Keysight 5G/6G-UM lab setup in Faculty of Engineering.
