DR. TEO CHEE HOW

Dr. Teo Chee How received his Doctor of Philosophy from the University of Leicester, the United Kingdom where his research was focusing on the distribution and diversity of repetitive DNAs in the Musa genome. He was involved in the development of retrotransposon-based molecular markers for Musa species identification. During his stays at the University of Leicester, he was involved in the fifth EU framework programme where, together with other partners in the framework, he developed universal tools to isolate pararetroviruses (EPRVs) and investigate the biodiversity of EPRV sequences. In addition, he successfully established a plant artificial minichromosome platform for crop improvement purposes during his post-doctorate period at the Leibniz Institute of Plant Genetics and Crop Plant Research (IPK), Gatersleben, Germany. In 2012 he returned to Malaysia to work at Agro-Biotechnology Institute (ABI) under the Ministry of Science, Technology, and Innovation (MOSTI) as a Senior Research Officer before joining academic as Senior Lecturer at Taylor’s University in 2014. He joined the Centre for Research in Biotechnology for Agriculture (CEBAR), the University of Malaya as a Senior Lecturer in 2016.

ASSOCIATE PROF. DR. PETER ANING ANAK TEDONG

Peter Aning Tedong joined the Department of Urban and Regional Planning at the University of Malaya in December 2014. He is currently the Head of Department of Urban and Regional Planning. He also serves as the Head of Centre for Malaysian Indigenous Studies. As urban studies and housing scholar, Peter Aning’s broad areas of interest cover housing policy and governance, political economy in urban planning, and neighborhood sustainability and planning. He has received numerous research grants both from the public and private sectors. Recently completed projects explored the socio-spatial planning plans in the context of the urban future in Malaysia and the poverty among the indigenous communities in rural areas. He has also carried out work on the role of governance in governing vulnerable communities (refugees, stateless and foreign workers) and examining various issues related to housing and migration in Malaysian Cities. His latest area of interest is multi-layered governance of affordable housing, the Sustainable Development Goals in relation to neighborhood and community planning, and the impacts of migration towards regional and urban development.  Peter’s empirical focus is on the South East Asia region, but he has conducted fieldwork in Europe, Borneo Islands, North America, and also Oceania countries.

DR. SYED MOHD JEFFRI BIN SYED JAAFAR

Syed Mohd Jeffri Syed Jaafar merupakan anak kelahiran Temerloh Pahang. Beliau merupakan lulusan cemerlang Sarjana Muda Syariah  (Fiqh & Usul)  daripada Universiti Malaya pada tahun 2012 di bawah tajaan Jabatan Perkhidmatan Awam (JPA). Pada tahun 2013, beliau telah ditawarkan menyambung pengajian di peringkat doktor falsafah secara fast track dalam bidang fiqh dan Usul  di Universiti yang sama dengan mendapat tajaan Skim Latihan Akademik IPTA (SLAI).  Beliau telah berjaya menyelesaikan pengajian dengan GOT “Graduate on Time” di peringkat doktor falsafah pada tahun 2017. Sepanjang pengajian, beliau sempat menimba ilmu di beberapa buah negara luar seperti di Jami’ah Ain Syam, Mesir (2010) dan di Dar Mustafa, Yaman (2014). Antara kepakaran dan bidang yang sedang diterokai oleh beliau adalah usul fiqh, pemikiran hukum, fiqh ibadat, fiqh haji dan umrah serta fiqh kontemporari. Beliau seorang yang aktif di dalam penyelidikan, penulisan, penerbitan dan persidangan baik di peringkat kebangsaan mahupun antarabangsa. Kini beliau berkhidmat sebagai pensyarah kanan di Jabatan Fiqh dan Usul, Akademi Pengajian Islam, Universiti Malaya.
