Prof. Lim is the Executive Director, Department of Clinical Research and Advancement at Universiti Malaya, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. She is a Senior Consultant Endocrinologist and former Head of the Diabetes Care Unit, Universiti Malaya (2022-2025). She also holds honorary positions at the Chinese University of Hong Kong and the Baker Heart and Diabetes Institute, Melbourne, Australia. As a clinician-scientist, Prof. Lim’s major areas of interest are cardiometabolic medicine (epidemiology, molecular, and implementation science). Prof. Lim sits on the Working Groups of the WHO Global Diabetes Compact, The Lancet Commission on Diabetes, and the American Diabetes Association/European Association for the Study of Diabetes (ADA/EASD) Precision Medicine in Diabetes Initiative. She recognizes that every person with diabetes and non-communicable disease (NCD) is unique and warrants personalized care. To revolutionize health care, Prof. Lim aims to advance the implementation of Precision Medicine in Diabetes and NCD, taking into account differences in clinical presentation, genes, and lifestyles in Malaysian populations. These have led to several collaborations with the USA, UK, and other Asian countries. She has published in more than 130 high-impact journals, including The Lancet, Nature, Diabetes Care, and Science Bulletin. Prof. Lim has received several awards, including the Universiti Malaya’s Top Cited Researcher 2024, World’s Top 2% Scientists by Stanford University for 4 consecutive years (2022-2025), and the European Foundation for the Study of Diabetes (EFSD) Albert Renold Fellowship, tenable at the University of Oxford, UK. She has also received a scholarship funded by the USA NIH National Institute of General Medical Sciences for training in statistical genetics at the University of Washington, USA. She is also the Vice President of Diabetes Malaysia (a country affiliate of the International Diabetes Federation), 2025-2027, and Council Member of the Malaysian Endocrine and Metabolic Society, 2022-2026. She is an Editorial Board Member of 4 Q1 Web of Science-indexed journals (BMC Medicine; Diabetes, Obesity and Metabolism; Diabetes/Metabolism Research & Reviews, and Diabetes & Metabolism Journal). Dr. Lim is an article reviewer for 30 leading academic journals, including the European Heart Journal, Diabetes Care, PLoS Medicine, and The Lancet series.
show more »I am currently a Professor at the Faculty of Languages and Linguistics, Universiti Malaya. My main areas of research include Varieties of English, in particular, Malaysian English, as well as language use in educational and in multilingual contexts. Additionally, I work on an endangered language, Melaka Portuguese, which I have digitally archived at the Endangered Languages Archive (funded by an Endangered Languages Documentation Programme grant). My research on this language have led to the co-production of materials with community representatives to encourage the use of this language. These include a mobile app. Apart from my research output which include a trademark and nine copyrights, I am a point of reference on issues related to the use of English in Malaysia and the state of endangered languages for local and international media as well as stakeholders. At present, I am a consultant for Malaysian English entries in the Oxford English Dictionary and for a project with the National Department for Culture and Arts Melaka. My scholarship and contributions have been recognised not only by the university (UM Academic Icon 2024) but also by the Academy of Sciences Malaysia (ASM). I was elected as an ASM Fellow and am also a 2024 recipient of the ASM's Top Research Scientists award. I was conferred a lifetime honorary membership of the Linguistic Society of the Philippines, and until recently, was an Adjunct Professor at Mahidol University in Thailand. I am also a Mercator Fellow in the CODILAC project at the University of Hamburg in Germany. At the national level, I have been actively contributing to the Ministry of Higher Education’s (i) research excellence programme as a member of the taskforce and technical committee, and (ii) research university committee. Beyond my academic and research activities, I have been involved in capacity building and mentoring of peers and early career researchers (ECRs) at the university, national and international levels.
show more »Teoh Teow Chong received his BSc in Biochemistry in 1996, MSc in Biochemistry in 2000, and PhD in Computational Chemistry in 2008, from University of Malaya. He has been teaching started as a school teacher, to Lecturer since 1990 in various educational institutions, such as primary school, smart school, KDU college, Taylor’s College and Stamford College and tutors in OUM and IMU for 20 years until finally back in the University of Malaya in 2009 as Senior Lecturer. His research interests are focusing in drug design by molecular docking and molecular dynamics, chemical analysis by HPLC and LCMS, and transcriptomics of fungal species. He has been the webmaster of Institute of Biological Sciences (ISB) since 2009, the Coordinator of Master of Bioinformatics since 2016, Faculty of Science, UM, and the committee member of JKIT, ISB, UM, and the Secretary for Malaysian Society Of Marine Sciences (MSMS). He has been the company consultant for Ganofarm R&D Sdn. Bhd since 2010. He also served as organization committee for multiple international and national conferences, including the Quantum & Non-linear Optics Conference (QNO 2019), Bio Asia-Pacific Conference Series 2016, ICMSM 2009, ACCMS 2017, ACCIS 2017, and Biosymposium of ISB. He has also presented numerous conference papers including in the 10th Asia Pacific Biotech Congress in Bangkok, International Symposium On Computational Science in Japan and The First International Workshop on Computational Biophysics in Vietnam. Besides, he is the co-owner of US patent and China patent in the production bioethanol from biomass as an alternative biofuel. He was also the Company Director of MyEZfuel Sdn. Bhd., a spin-off company by the UM Holdings. To date, he has graduated 8 MSc and 4 PhD graduates and currently supervising 7 PhD researchers, 1 Master of Bioinformatics researcher.
