Associate Professor ChM. Dr. Noraini Ahmad is a certified chemist recognized under the Malaysian Chemist Act 1975. She currently serves as an Associate Professor at the Department of Chemistry, Faculty of Science, Universiti Malaya. Her academic journey began with a BSc (Hons) in Applied Chemistry from Universiti Malaya in 2003, followed by a MSc in Colloid and Surface Chemistry in 2008, and a PhD in Physical Chemistry in 2012 from the same institution. During her doctoral studies, Dr. Noraini completed a prestigious research attachment at the Instituto de Química Avanzada de Cataluña - Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas (IQAC-CSIC), Barcelona, Spain (2010–2012), supported by the InForm Project under the EU-FP7 programme and Malaysia’s Ministry of Higher Education. In 2015, she was selected to represent Malaysia as a Nanobiotechnology Scientist at the Workshop of Scientists from Russia and ASEAN Countries on Nanobiotechnology in Vladivostok, Russia. Her academic career began at the Centre for Foundation Studies, International Islamic University Malaysia (CFS IIUM), where she served as a lecturer for over three years. She joined Universiti Malaya in 2008 and was appointed as a Lecturer in 2012, promoted to Senior Lecturer in 2013, and later to Associate Professor in 2021. Dr. Noraini currently holds several key administrative roles at Universiti Malaya, including: Director, Universiti Malaya Community Engagement Centre (UMCares) Coordinator, Formulation and Product Development Unit, Centre for Natural Products Research and Drug Discovery (CENAR) STEM Representative, Faculty of Science, Universiti Malaya STEM Centre She has also served in leadership and academic roles such as Deputy Director and Fellow of UMCares, Programme Coordinator for BSc (Chemistry), MQF Coordinator, and Head of Section (Physical Chemistry) from 2019 to 2024. Internationally, Dr. Noraini has been honored as a Visiting Professor at several universities and frequently invited as a keynote and plenary speaker at international conferences. Her areas of expertise include Physical Chemistry particularly colloid chemistry, surfactants, self-assembly, liquid crystals, chemical kinetics, and green chemistry as well as Nanomaterials Formulation and Drug Delivery Systems. Her research primarily focuses on the development of nanocarrier systems based on lipids, surfactants, and natural plant-derived materials for applications in pharmaceuticals, medical therapeutics, cosmeceuticals, and nutraceuticals. She has secured over MYR 12 million in research funding as Principal Investigator and Co-Investigator, demonstrating her active involvement and commitment to scientific research. Beyond teaching and research, Dr. Noraini is deeply engaged in university service and national development through various academic committees, research evaluations, and community programmes. She has received numerous awards and recognitions at both national and international levels for her outstanding contributions to science and education.
show more »Dr. Mazlina Mazlan is a Professor and Head of the Rehabilitation Medicine Department at Universiti Malaya. She has significantly advanced the field, particularly in brain injury and neurorehabilitation. Her expertise spans traumatic brain injury (TBI), stroke, hypoxic ischemic encephalopathy, and non-invasive brain stimulation techniques. Prof. Mazlina's TBI research has been widely published in medical journals, and she serves as Associate Editor for Neurology Asia (WoS) and Journal of Health and Translational Medicine (Scopus). She has co-authored numerous chapters and books, including a contribution to the globally recognized textbook Braddom's Rehabilitation Care. Her influence extends to keynote addresses at international conferences including the World Congress of the International Society of Physical & Rehabilitation Medicine and invited clinical workshops in Southeast Asia. Additionally, she founded and leads the Malaysian Association of Rehabilitation Physicians' Brain Injury Rehabilitation and Non-invasive Brain Stimulation Special Interest Groups, focusing on clinical training, education, and public awareness. Prof. Mazlina has supervised over 50 postgraduates, including the first PhD graduate from the Department of Rehabilitation Medicine at Universiti Malaya. Her leadership extends to chairing the National Conjoint Board for Rehabilitation Medicine Specialty and serving as a Medical Specialty Program Panel Evaluator for the Malaysian Medical Council. She was part of the World Health Organisation's expert review group for Rehabilitation Intervention toolkit, and one of the founding members of International Society of Cognitive Rehabilitation. Beyond academia, Prof. Mazlina frequently serves as an expert medical witness in medico-legal TBI cases. Clinically, she is a pioneer, being the first Malaysian rehabilitation physician with a Fellowship in brain injury rehabilitation and the first Malaysian appointed as Council member in the Asian Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation Society SIC. She provides expert clinical consultations and treatments, as a Senior Consultant Rehabilitation Physician at UM Medical Center & UM Specialist Center.

Dr. Raj’s reputation as an expert has also led to consulting roles with international and national agencies, including the Economic Planning Unit (EPU), Ministry of Economy, Institute for Capital Market Research Malaysia (ICMR), United Nations Global Compact (UNGC), and Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD). These roles demonstrate his significant influence in shaping policies and strategies that promote sustainable growth and innovation. With over six years of industry experience working for major Malaysian financial institutions such as Eon Bank, Hong Leong Bank, AmBank, and CIMB Bank, Dr. Raj has a wealth of practical experience in areas like personal financing, SME financing, mortgages, and business loans. This hands-on industry experience complements his academic knowledge, enabling him to effectively bridge theoretical concepts with real-world applications. As a Doctoral Fellow at the Manchester Institute of Innovation Research (MIoIR), Dr. Raj continues to contribute to leading research in innovation and technology management. His blend of academic rigor, industry experience, and consulting expertise makes him a respected figure in business management, particularly in the areas of sustainability, ESG, and innovation-driven collaboration.
