Associate Professor Dr. Jacob John qualified as a Prosthodontist in 1997 after completing his basic dental degree in 1994 and has since been active in the field of dental health, service and education. He had served as a Lecturer in the Tamil Nadu Dr. MGR Medical University, India and as a Dental Officer in the Ministry of Health, Malaysia before joining as an academic at the Faculty of Dentistry, University of Malaya, Malaysia in 2009. He is a Life Member of the Indian Prosthodontic Society, founding Secretary of the Malaysia Association for Prosthodontics and presently the Honorary Secretary of the Asian Academy of Prosthodontics. He is also an active member of the International Association for Disability and Oral Health (IADH) since 2011 and works very closely with the Special Olympics Malaysia in providing oral health education and care for the intellectually disabled community. In addition, he is an Honorary Advisory Board Member of the Indira Gandhi Institute of Dental Sciences, Pondicherry, India since 2019, and member of the Council for Prosthodontic Research of the Indian Prosthodontic Society since 2018. As part of his academic career, Dr. Jacob has been actively involved in the field of research, collaborating with fellow researchers both within Malaysia and globally. His special research interest lies in the field of Prosthodontics, Geriatric Dentistry and Dental Education. He has so far supervised more than 10 students at Masters and PhD level. He has published over 30 papers in peer reviewed, high impact international journals and contributed chapters in 4 textbooks. He has also presented his work at many national and international conferences. Dr Jacob is very passionate about Community Outreach activities and he was the first recipient of the prestigious Jan Andersson-Norinder Award by the IADH in 2016 in recognition of his work among people with special needs and the under privileged.
