Professor Zamros Yuzadi Mohd Yusof is a Professor of Dental Public Health at the Department of Community Oral Health and Clinical Prevention, Faculty of Dentistry, Universiti Malaya. He teaches Oral Health Promotion module in the Master of Community Oral Health Programme and Community Oral Health module in the Doctor in Dental Public Health Programme.

His research interests include children’s oral health, particularly the social determinants of oral health inequalities, oral health promotion, and oral health-related quality of life. Much of his work focuses on implementation research, including understanding and addressing oral health inequalities, developing and evaluating evidence-based interventions, and translating research evidence into effective, sustainable, and contextually appropriate oral health programmes, policies, and practice. He was formerly the Head of the Community Oral Health Research Group at UM and remains actively involved in community-based activities and empowerment programmes.

Professor Zamros is the principal investigator of a national grant to develop and evaluate a community-based oral health intervention called the Dental Health Village Model, targeting urban poor children and their families in the Klang Valley. He also works closely with the Oral Health Programme, Ministry of Health, to address the high prevalence of dental caries and gum disease in children and adolescents. Through his research, he has helped improve the National Preschool Oral Health Programme, which is implemented in Perak, parts of Terengganu, and Selangor as part of the dental school service. His research team also developed the MySmile app for use in the School Dental Service, which involves secondary school children in Perak and Selangor. Currently, he and his team have developed an evidence-based intervention to address oral health inequality among primary school children in rural areas called SPARKLE, and are testing it in rural schools in Negeri Sembilan. He was also involved in UM Help and Kindness Create Smiles (UMHAKCS) project, which involved nationwide Orang Asli communities.

He plays a significant role in developing the National Oral Health Strategic Plan 2020-2030 for the Oral Health Programme, Ministry of Health Malaysia, and is actively involved in determining the government’s oral health agenda and research directions for the next 10 years, until 2030. He has 27 copyrights related to research excellence. These include 14 key indices or scales widely used to measure improvements in oral health and quality of life in children in multiple languages.

At the international level, he collaborated with colleagues from universities in Southeast Asia and the UK to improve oral health for socially disadvantaged populations locally and abroad. One major project was developing dental care pathways for populations in ASEAN countries, which has influenced how they receive treatment in government clinics.
