Dr. Krishnamurithy Genasan is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Physiology, Faculty of Medicine, Universiti Malaya (UM). He holds key administrative leadership appointments as Head of the Central Research Laboratory at the Faculty of Medicine and Deputy Director (Laboratories) at the National Orthopaedic Centre of Excellence in Research and Learning (NOCERAL). A former UM Bright Spark Scholar, he earned a dual Ph.D. in Orthopaedic Surgery from Universiti Malaya and the University of Liverpool, alongside a Master’s in Medical Science and a First-Class Honors Bachelor’s degree in Medical Biotechnology from Universiti Malaya.

His research expertise spans musculoskeletal physiology, tissue engineering, biomaterial characterization, and immunomodulatory strategies to mitigate pain and degeneration in osteoarthritis and intervertebral disc pathology. As a prolific investigator, Dr. Krishnamurithy serves as Principal Investigator and Co-Researcher on numerous national and institutional grants, including Malaysia’s Fundamental Research Grant Scheme (FRGS). He has authored over 50 Web of Science and Scopus-indexed publications in high-impact journals, focusing on bioactive ceramics, stem cell secretomes, and cellular mechanisms governing tissue regeneration.

In addition to his research and laboratory directorships, Dr. Krishnamurithy serves on the Editorial Board of Scientific Reports (Nature Portfolio) for a two-year term. He actively supervises PhD, Master’s by Research, and clinical Master of Orthopaedic Surgery candidates, coordinates undergraduate and postgraduate medical courses, and serves as an academic reviewer and external examiner for international journals and academic institutions. He is an active member of the Tissue Engineering Society of Malaysia and was awarded the Universiti Malaya Excellence Service Award in 2025.
