ASSOCIATE PROF. SR TS. DR. FARID WAJDI BIN AKASHAH

Farid Wajdi Akashah is an Associate Professor at the Department of Building Surveying, Faculty of Built Environment, Universiti Malaya, and a Senior Consultant at UPUM Sdn Bhd, specializing in fire safety, and building condition evaluations. In 2024, he was appointed as a Visiting Professor at the School of Architecture, Universidad de Navarra, Spain. He holds a Bachelor of Building Surveying from Universiti Malaya and a Ph.D. in Fire Safety Engineering from Ulster University. With over RM662,200 in research grants, his work has influenced fire safety policies, building codes, and risk mitigation strategies. He serves as one of Malaysia’s Representatives to ISO/TC 92/SC 4 Fire Safety Engineering and is a committee member for the National Standards Committee on Fire Safety and the Technical Committee on Passive Fire Safety Design under the Department of Standards Malaysia, contributing to both national and international fire safety standards. A lifetime member of IAFSS and MyRBS, he also serves on the UN-backed International Fire Safety Standards (IFSS) Coalition, supporting the Decade of Action for Fire Safety. A Registered Building Surveyor, MyCREST Qualified Professional, and certified Thermographer and NDT-UT Level I, he has led fire risk management, regulatory compliance audits, and building condition evaluations for projects exceeding RM6.88 million. Recognized with the Malaysian Young Building Surveyor Award (2016) and multiple Excellent Service Awards, he continues to advance fire safety, risk management, and regulatory improvements globally.

DR. MOHD YAZED BIN AHMAD

Dr. Mohd Yazed Ahmad is a Senior Lecturer at the Department of Biomedical Engineering, Universiti Malaya. His academic and research journey centers on interdisciplinary innovation, particularly the fusion of engineering, medical technology, and embedded systems. He obtained his Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering with a focus on wireless passive sensing, RF-based system design, and intelligent embedded diagnostics. Dr. Yazed’s research interests span across smart healthcare systems, AI-powered sensing, and low-power wireless communication technologies. He has led and contributed to multiple impactful projects including novel modified-Hemlholtz coil for wireless power transfer tested for wireless capsule endoscope, novel weatstone-bridge antenna for fine grain positioning within RF near-field extending RFID capabilities, passive LC sensors for intraoral diagnostics, RF energy harvesting for wearable health monitoring, and real-time IoT platforms for Smart City solutions such as street lighting and waste management systems. He is also actively involved in national innovation programs such as MyHackathon, from which he founded a solution team, offering engineering and smart infrastructure solutions. He supervises researc projects in biomedical AI systems, e-stethoscopes, and embedded medical electronics, and regularly collaborates with clinicians and industry partners. In his role as an educator, he is also the course coordinator for Programming and Numerical Methods, emphasizing MATLAB and C++ for biosystem modeling. Dr. Yazed contributes to institutional advancement through curriculum design, industrial training coordination, and as an advisor to the Biomedical Engineering Student Club. His goal is to bridge medical needs and technological advancements through ethical, sustainable, and high-impact engineering innovations.

DR. NURLIANA BINTI KAMARUDDIN

Nurliana Kamaruddin is senior lecturer at the East Asian Studies Department, Faculty of Arts and Social Science, Universiti Malaya. She is also a fellow at the Centre for ASEAN Regionalism, AEI, UM. Previously she was Deputy Executive Director (Academic and Students Affairs) at the Asia-Europe Institute (2021-2024). Her recent publications include books by Routledge (Southward Bound: Examining the Regional Policies of Taiwan and South Korea, 2024) and Palgrave-Macmillan (The New Normal and Its Impact on Society: Perspectives from ASEAN and the European Union, 2024). Nurliana was a recipient of the Korea Foundation ASEAN Fellowship (2013-2015) and the POSCO TJ Park Foundation Asia Fellowship (2009-2011). Her research interest includes international security and development with a focus on East Asia and specifically Malaysia-Korea Relations.
