DR. CHEONG FEI WEN

Cheong Fei Wen obtained her Bachelor Degree in Biomedical Science (with distinction) from Universiti Malaya (UM), Malaysia. She passed her PhD with distinction and is currently holding the post of senior lecturer in the Department of Parasitology, Faculty of Medicine, UM. Since PhD study, she explored into several malaria-related aspects, including protein expression of the Plasmodium knowlesi merozoite surface proteins; immunogenicity study using animal model; and epitope mapping. Her current research interests include phenotypic and genotypic measures on Plasmodium sp. resistance against anti-malarials, immunogenicity profiling of potential malarial vaccine candidates, and genome engineering in P. knowlesi using CRISPR-Cas9 system. With her deep passion in research, she has been successfully selected and awarded to attend several international workshops/courses including Ungku Omar-Newton Fund Researcher Links Workshop: Neglected Disease in SEA: Building Capacity in Epidemiological Modelling (University of Malaya, Malaysia & Imperial College London, UK) and Wellcome Genome Campus Advanced Course: Malaria Experimental Genetics (WGCAC, UK). She has also obtained and be part of 10 research grants, including UM Research Fund Assistance (BKP), UM Research Excellence Grant (UMREG), Postgraduate Research Fund (PPP), Frontier Research Grant (FRG), Fundamental Research Grant Scheme (FRGS), and Long Term Research Grant Scheme (LRGS), with total amount exceeding RM 2 million. With that, she has published about 30 articles in ISI-indexed journals.  She is currently the assistant editor of the Journal of Health and Translational Medicine (JUMMEC), associate editor of Asia Pacific Journal of Molecular Biology and Biotechnology (APJMBB), and editorial board member of Tropical Biomedicine. She was the council member for Malaysian Society of Parasitology and Tropical Medicine (MSPTM) in 2019-2020.  She received excellent service certificate and excellent service award, UM in 2019 and 2024, respectively. She has been appointed as Programme Coordinator and assisted the department to develop a new Master by Coursework programme (Master of Medical Parasitology and Entomology, MMPE). She is also the course coordinator for courses in MMPE and Biomedical Science Programme. She is the committee member of Quality Assurance Programme - Quality Committee, Faculty of Medicine (FOM) from 2020. With her interest in academic curriculum, she has also been appointed as Programme Quality Assurance Expert (Pro-QAE) of FOM in 2021, and Pro-QAE of UM in 2024 to assist in programme curriculum related matters.

ASSOCIATE PROF. DR. MUHAMMAD IKHLAS BIN ROSELE

He was born in Pahang, Kampung Gali Hilir, Raub and growing up in Kampung Budu, Kuala Lipis Pahang. His early studies began at Kampung Budu, Sekolah Rendah Kebangsaan Budu and later at Al-Ulum Ad-Diniah Religious Secondary School, Raub, Pahang. Furthermore, he continued his studies at high school level at Kulliah Sultan Abu Bakar, Pekan, Pahang. He then was offered to pursue foundation study at University of Malaya, Nilam Puri for two years. He then pursued his Bachelor Degree, in Fiqh and Usul Department, Academy of Islamic Studies, UM and obtained his first degree in 2012. He then offered to pursue his Doctoral degree at the same university and obtained his Doctorate of Philosophy in 2016.  He build up his expertise in Fiqh al-Zakah (especially the zakah of Islamic financial institutions in Malaysia), Islamic Law of Property (Islamic Inheritance, Waqf, Hibah and Will) and Usul al-Fiqh at the Department of Fiqh and Usul, Academy of Islamic Studies UM. He also being actively involved in writing books, journal articles and presentations in national seminars as well as international seminars. In addition, his research tendency covers the field of Fatwa, Mu'amalah, the History of Islamic Law. He has produced writings as much as 11 books, 50 chapters in books, 118 journal articles, 27 articles in proceeding and a number of studies in the form of presented paper, media and technical report (about 224 publications in total by 2024). All of these writings cover areas of Islamic Law of Property, Zakah, Mu'amalah, Islamic finance, Fatwa, Islamic Inheritance Law, Historical Development of Islamic Law, Islamic Medicine and Halal (Islamic Consumerism). He also involved in the study of zakah with Zakah Collection Centre of MAIWP, halal and Islamic Medicine with Jabatan Mufti Negeri PulauPinang and JAKIM, Takaful With Takaful Institutions, Islamic historiography in collaboration with the Sultan Abu Bakar Museum, Pekan, Pahang. He is actively participating seminar and conference at the national and international level. Apart from that, he is also being actively involved in Persatuan Ulama Malaysia, National Dakwah Council organization (or Majlis Dakwah Negara) and the Pondok Perdana Curriculum Development Committee. As a Associate Professor at University of Malaya, he performed his duties by conducting lectures, tutorials and research related to Fiqh and Usul Fiqh and currently being appointed as head of department of Department of Fiqh and Usul. He is the son of Rosele bin Mohd Sari and Norihan bt Aman and the third of four siblings. He is also a husband to Ummi Farahin Yasin and a father of two sons and one daughter named Muhammad Aqil Munsif, Muhammad Arfan and Afwa Shafiyya.

PROFESSOR IR. DR. RAMESH SINGH A/L KULDIP SINGH

Professor Ramesh Singh has contributed immensely to the development and enhancement in science & technology in Malaysia, particularly in the field of ceramics engineering. Amongst his significant achievements include the development of an ageing resistant zirconia for steam environment, production of a novel nanostructured hydroxyapatite bioceramic derived from eggshells and bovine bones for orthopedic applications, and more recently is the tailoring of a novel electrical-conducive ceramic that is able to conduct electric current at room temperature without compromising on the mechanical properties. His work has attracted great interest from the industres locally and internationaly. He has provided solutions to industrial problems and have developed new materials/products that exhibits enhance performace and reliability. He has published more than 300 research articles in various ISI/WoS- and Scopus-listed publications and his research group has secured more than RM15 million of research funding for numerous projects relating to materials development, advanced manufacturing and machining. Prof. Ramesh has filed numerous patents for his inventions and received many accolades as a distinguished scholar. He was the recipient of the prestigious IEM Young Engineer Award, MTSF Science & Technology Award 2014 and won more than 55 awards at international/national exhibitions pertaining to his research and inventions. He was recognized as the top 12 "Malaysia Engineer Stars" by the Institution of Engineers Malaysia for his notable contribution in the field of engineering education and advancement in ceramics engineering in the country. Prof Ramesh is a Chartered Engineer with the Engineering Council, UK, a Chartered Professional Engineer with Engineers Australia, a Professional Engineer with the Board of Engineers Malaysia and Fellow of five prominent professional societies. i.e. The Institution of Mechanical Engineers UK, Institution of Engineers Australia, Institution of Engineers Malaysia, Institute of Materials Malaysia and Malaysia Scientific Association. He is on the international Editorial Board of Ceramics International (a Web of Science, Tier 1, Elsevier Publication), the Editor in Chief of the International Journal of Mechanical and Materials Engineering (a Scopus-listed publication), Editorial Board Member of the Journal of Institute of Materials Malaysia and Journal of Industrial Technology. Besides research excellence, Prof. Ramesh is also a distinguished professor in mechanical and materials engineering in the country. He is serving in numerous capacities as external assessor, professional mentor, resource person, external examiner, advisor and engineering accrediation panel. He holds a joint appointment as an Associate Director with the Engineering Accreditation Departmment, Board of Engineers Malaysia for his notable contribution in upholding the standards and quality of engineering education in Malaysia.
